Baptism

                                        Baptism of Water into death

(
the drowning of everything in us that is not in agreement with the spirit of God)

Matthew 3:1-3
John the Baptist came preaching in the desert of Judea saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."  This is He (John) who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah, "A voice of one calling in the desert.  Prepare the way for the Lord.  Make straight paths for Him."
Matthew 3:7,11-12
When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them, "...I baptize you with water for repentance, but after me will come One who is more powerful than I, Whose sandals I am not fit to carry.  He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Matthew 3:13-15
Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John, but John tried to deter Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?"  As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water.  At that moment heaven was opened and he
(John) saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on Him.  A voice from heaven said, "This is My Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased."
Matthew 28:1-20    Then the 11 disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where
(the resurrected) Jesus had told them to go.  When they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some doubted.  Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.  Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Mark 1:8 TPNT    I (John) baptized you in water, but He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
Mark 16:16 KJV
"He that believes and is baptized shall be saved.
He that believes not shall be damned.

Luke 3:2-4    God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness.  He came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the (water) baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet.

John 3:5-7    Jesus answered, "I tell you (Nicodemus) the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.  Flesh gives birth to flesh,  but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.  You should not be surprised at My saying , 'You must be born again.'"
John 3:16-18    "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life, for God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.  Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."

Acts 9:17-18 KJV    Jesus, that appeared to you in the way as you came, has sent me (Ananias) that you might receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost.  Immediately there fell from his eyes, as it had been, scales.  He received sight (back again), arose, as was baptized.
Acts 19:2-5 TPNT
2He asked them, "Did you take the Holy Spirit when you believed?"  They said to him, "In  fact, we did not hear whether there is a Holy Spirit."  3So he said, "Then in what name were you baptized?"  4Then Paul said, "John did baptize a baptism of repentance to the people, saying that they should believe in the One Who was coming after him, that is in Jesus."  5When they heard, they were (water) baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. (Jewish custom dictates water immersion.)

Colossians 2:11-14    In Him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, Who raised Him from the dead.  You, being dead in your sins and the un-circumcision of your flesh, has He quickened (made alive) together with Him, having forgiven you ALL trespasses.  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross.

Romans 6:3-6,11,14    Don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?  We were therefore buried with Him through baptism (of water) into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Count yourselves dead to sin (hurts, wounds, disillusionments, disease) but alive to God in Christ Jesus.  Sin shall not be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace (and mercy)

1st Corinthians 10:1-4 TPNT    1I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, because all our fathers were under the cloud and all went through the sea. 2All were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea3All ate the same spiritual food.  4All drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from a spiritual rock, which was following them; the rock was the Messiah.
1st Corinthians 15:29 NIV
If there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead?  If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them?  (
Commentary from Father John H Hampsch's Healing Your Family Tree = "Original sin can be erased through baptism...Personal sin, on the other hand, can be erased through repentance.")

1st Peter 3:18-22
(Generations after the life of Noah, Christ, the Son of God came to earth.)  Christ died for sins, once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you (me/mankind) to God.  He was put to death in the body but made alive by the (Holy) Spirit, through Whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.  In it only a few people, 8 in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you (us) also - not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God.  It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand-with angels, authorities and powers in submission to Him.

1st John 5:5-8    Who is it that overcomes the world?  Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.  This is the One Who came by  water and blood - Jesus Christ.  He did not come by water only, but by water and blood.  It is the Spirit Who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.  There are 3 that testify: the (Holy) Spirit, the water (of birth & baptism) and the blood (of Christ on the cross).  The 3 are in agreement.  (Without the atonement of blood there is no remission of sins.)

Commentary:

Benny Hinn says that to BELIEVE is to do so with the heart rather than with the mind (intellect).  It is to yield, surrender or follow.  It is an exchange like a blood transfusion.  God takes away our sin and gives us His spirit.  That is the greatest miracle of the human existence.

Regarding the water baptism.  It is John, called the Baptist, who is know for implementing the Christian water baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
(However, the Jewish community also has a similar ceremonial bath for washing away sin.)  Scripture indicates that John did not recognize Jesus as the Messiah, until later in life.  A parish priest explains it this way:  John did recognize Jesus to be his cousin, but he did not recognize him to be the Messiah, until later.  That is true of all humans.  We first recognize Jesus as a living human  before we recognize Him to be God's son and our savior from sins.  This is when God removes the veil.  It is a spiritual awareness, not an intellectual understanding, perception, or insight.  The soul perceives with the mind.  The spirit perceives with the spirit.  Only when the spirit of God is implanted into us, can the newborn spirit cry out Abba Father, daddy.
Luke 1:13 KJV    The angel said to him, "Fear not, Zechariah, for your prayer is heard.  Your wife Elizabeth shall bear a son.  You shall call his name John.  You shall have joy and gladness.  Many shall rejoice at his birth.  He shall be great in the sight of the Lord and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink.  He shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.  Many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.  He shall go before Him in in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, the disobedient to the wisdom of the just and to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
Luke 1:80 KJV    The child grew and waxed strong in spirit and was in the deserts till the day of his showing to Israel.
Luke 3:15-16 KJV    All men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ
(Messiah), or not.  John answered...,  "I indeed baptize you with water.  One mightier than I comes, the latchets of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose.  He shall baptize you with the  Holy Ghost and with fire.
Luke 7:19 KJV    John sent 2 of his disciples to Jesus, saying, "Are You He that should come or do we look for another?"
Luke 7:22 KJV    Jesus answered, "Go your way and tell John
(the Baptist, My 1st cousin) what things you have seen and heard, how the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the gospel is preached to the poor.  Blessed is he who shall NOT be offended in Me."
Luke 7:24,27-28 KJV    He began to speak to the people concerning John, ..."This is he of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send My messenger before your face, who shall prepare Your way before You."
(see Malachi 3:1) I say to you, "Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist.  He that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. (Meaning, Jesus the son of God is greater than the greatest prophet, John.)"

Adam and Eve 40:2    "When 5,500 years  have been fulfilled, then will come upon earth the most beloved king Christ, the son of God, to revive the body of Adam and with him to revive the bodies of the dead.  He Himself, the son of God, when He comes will be baptized in the river Jordan.  Then He will anoint from the oil of mercy all that believe in Him.  The oil of mercy will be for generation to generation for those who are ready to be born again of water and the Holy Spirit to life eternal.  Then the most beloved son of God, Christ, descending on earth shall lead your father Adam to paradise to the tree of mercy."

                                                               Commentary:
(Catholic) Father Hampsch in Healing Your Family Tree, says, "A predisposition for exercising... deliverance power -'a sign that the kingdom of God has come to you' (Luke 11:20)-is repentance (1st
John 4:4; 5:18), being reborn in God's family.  This enables us to come against the negative family traits that that have been transmitted to us, and to prevent the transmission of our own negative traits to our offspring.  This is simply applying one's own 'baptismal rights'
(or salvation rights) to restore the life of God to the deadened areas of the family tree. (The baptismal right (salvation right) is that by which we have access to God's family, for in baptism we become 'children of God' and part of His family tree.)

Instead of crediting infant baptism or purgatory as the ticket to heaven (which he passed out to the children during mass) a Boston Catholic priest in 2005 credits the ticket to heaven - to obeying the 10 commandments found in the Old Testament.  One little child ran to her parents shouting, "I have a ticket to heaven."
Scripture says not to offend the little children.
(Matthew 18:6 or Mark 6:3 "Who shall offend one of these little ones which believe in Me, it were better for him that a millstone were hung about his neck, and that he were drown in the depth of the sea.")
This priest began beautifully to illustrate that Jesus is the ticket to heaven, but his punch line missed the mark altogether.  He showed wonderfully that we or a friend can buy a ticket to a movie, a ball game, a museum or heaven.  He failed to show that we cannot buy a ticket to heaven.  Only our friend Jesus can buy that ticket.  Jesus paid the full price of that ticket.  Jesus bought up all the tickets to heaven.  Our ticket to heaven is free to us.  It did cost Jesus a lot, however.  When we accept the ticket from Jesus, we can get into heaven.  When  we acknowledge Jesus as our friend, savior, forgiver, lover and lord, He gives us that ticket to heaven.  In gratitude we are baptized with water as a sign to the world that we pledge our allegiance to Him.  We follow Christ's example, for Christ was baptized in the lake by His 1st cousin John.
We can take NO credit for being born into or belonging to a family.  Neither can we claim credit for any adoption into a family.  It is the parents who do the choosing, not the child.  Likewise, when we are adopted into God's heavenly family, it is Father God Who chooses us.  It is Jesus His son Who made that possible.  Nothing we do can make God love us more, chose us above another, or make Him un-adopt us.  He did all the adoption papers 2000 years ago, before we were ever born!  All we need to do is say, "Yes."  At a marriage ceremony, all the paperwork is already done.  All we need to do is say, "Yes."

One cannot experience a reality in the flesh when it is in the mind as an idea.  God creates a human being just by thinking about him.  The infant does not experience "conception" in the female, but he does experience being born.  When we say yes to a wedding proposal we do not experience the consummation of the marriage until later.  Just  before we say yes to having the Lord Jesus as our forgiver and Lord, we do not have the experiential insight of our new birth into God's spiritual family as a sibling of Jesus Christ.  When we say yes, it is our spiritual conception, our adoption.  We become born, this time not in the flesh, but in the spirit.  Afterward we realize the glory of what has happened and we are grateful, but as a babe we cannot function on our own.  We  realize that we are plugged into God, but we also realize we are powerless.

Perry Stone in Where Are the Weapons of the Mighty Men Hung  goes one step further.  He compares water baptism as a covenant sign of new birth to circumcision as a covenant sign of the Old Testament.  He illustrates this belief by mentioning a minister in India who baptizes all converts immediately after confession of belief in Jesus Christ as savior.  Upon water immersion in the river, many manifest demons which flee, leaving the new converts delivered, changed, and truly a new person in Jesus Christ. www.perrystone.org (1-888-21-BREAD)

Romans 6 says, "We were therefore buried with Him through baptism (of water) into death."  This scriptural reality of being dead to our human nature takes a lifetime of imprinting into our psyche.  If we are truly dead, then our buttons do not get pushed.  Our past hurts do not overwhelm us to the degree they did in the past. We are less and less co-dependent.  We are more and more autonomous.  We are more and more safe being alone without having to check in with a safe person.  We are more and more able to forgive and forget, (but always keeping ourselves safe from persons dangerous to ourselves and our families).  We act out less and less, not hurting ourselves or others, as we did in the past.  We laugh more and cry less.

Derek Prince in they Shall Expel Demons contends that one needs to be water baptized as an adult; that infant baptism is insufficient to ward off demons and heavenly evil daimons. www.derekprince.com

Benny Hinn teaches from Exodus 14 that Moses' with the Jewish remnant passing through the Red sea symbolized or actualized a baptism of water and spirit.  The water is obvious.  The cloud was before and after the Hebrew people.  Benny contends that they passed through the cloud, which he believes was a baptism in the Holy Spirit.  His concepts may be obtained on CD called the Holy Spiritwww.bennyhinn.com

David H Stern in Jewish New Testament Commentary notes that "the Baptist" was added to the name John.   "Baptizein" in Greek means to dip, soak, immerse into a liquid so that it takes on the qualities of the solution, for example: cloth in dye, or leather in tanning solution.  Thus, those who are baptized into Christ take on His nature; our impurities are washed away; we are restored to a right relationship to God.

A 77 year old lady at a Benny Hinn Singapore 2005 healing service shared what God spoke to her.  "If you give Me your sins, I give you salvation.  If you give to Me your sicknesses, I give to you healing."
Water baptism is an outward sign of the inward act of God, the washing away of sin.  Water baptism is also an act of obedience.  Jesus, Himself, set the example for us to follow.  Nonetheless, let us not fail to give Jesus our sins and also our infirmities.  (The 77 year old lady was cured of asthma.)

David Ravenhill shares a unique way to view water baptism/salvation/the cross.  The front of the cross is our salvation in Christ Jesus.  The back of the cross is our redemption by Christ as an offering back to God without the sin.  This is a "back to the future" approach, where at long last Father God has us the way He intended us to be from the beginning of creation, perfect and wonderful in His sight, His awesome sons, His delightful children. 6/3/5 CD or DVD www.streamsminitries.com

Chapter 16 Spirits of the Occult references the need to renounce occult activities and to use the Catholic infant/convert water baptismal rite as a format/template.  This includes renouncing, 1st in the name of Father God, 2nd in the name of Jesus Christ and 3rd in the name of the Holy Spirit:
(1) Satan, (2) all spiritual forces of wickedness, (3) all evil powers, and (4) all sinful desires; (5th) it includes accepting Jesus Christ as savior.  Chapter 17 Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA) adds that a SRA person being ministered to needs to repeat this rite/prayer/declaration THREE times (3x) in order to break any seals/legal strongholds (which may have come from one's own invitation or from dedication to Satan by another).  A common in utero/womb seal is a spirit of rejection that became lodged in him/her when the parent did not want the child and contemplated/ attempted abortion.   Subsequently the priest/minister/rabbi can pray, "In the name of Jesus Christ, I break every seal of Satan; in the name of Jesus Christ, I set you free by the double edged sword of the Holy Spirit."

(To break and dissolve all satanic seals, repeat the following paragraph three times in honor of the Holy Trinity because satanic seals are placed three times to blaspheme the Holy Trinity.)
In the honor of the holy trinity and in the holy name of Jesus, I break and dissolve any and all curses, hexes, spells, snares, traps, lies, obstacles, deceptions, diversions, evil spiritual influences, evil wishes, evil desires, hereditary seals
(known and unknown) and every dysfunction and disease from any source including my own mistakes and sins.  In Jesus' name, I sever the transmission of any and all satanic vows, pacts, spiritual bonds, soul ties, and satanic works.  In Jesus' name, I break and dissolve any and all links and effects of links with: astrologers; bohmos; channelers; charters; clairvoyants; crystal healers; crystals; fortune tellers; mediums; New Age Movement; non Christian/non Jewish religions; occult seers; palm, tea leaf, or tarot card readers; psychics; santeros; satanic cults; spirit guides; witch doctors; and, Voodoo.  In Jesus' name, I  dissolve all effects of participation in seances and divination, ouija boards, horoscopes, occult games of all sorts, and any form of worship that does not offer true honor to Jesus Christ.

(in the crocodile infested Congo River) had also been divinely healed from some kind of sickness or injury...Many of those in the baptismal crowd had been released from demonic spirits which had possessed and bound them.  This was particularly true of the mad woman who wanted to swim with us."  Psalm 107:20 NKJV   He sent His Word, healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.  Exodus 15:26  I am the Lord Who heals you.

Baptism of Fire

Isaiah 28:11-12 KJV  With (through our) stammering lips and another tongue (heavenly language) will He speak to this people.  To whom He said, "This rest (interior peace) wherewith you may cause the we rest; this is the refreshing; yet, they would not hear (listen/accept/believe/apply to their circumstances)."

Mark 16:17    These signs shall follow them that BELIEVE.  In My name shall they cast out devils.  They shall speak with new tongues. (Tongues is our praying out loud in a language, personally unknown to us, and is often a form of praise)

Luke 3:16-17    "I (John the Baptist) am  baptizing you with water, but there is One to  come Who is mightier than I...He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire."
Luke 11:13    "If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ASK Him," (says Jesus).
Luke 12:49    "I  have come to cast fire on the earth and would
(prefer) that it were already kindled."

John 1:3    "Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him; this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit."
John 14:17    The
(Holy) Sprit dwells with you (water baptism) and will be in you (fire baptism).

Acts 1:4-5,8
On one occasion, while He (Jesus) was eating with them (the disciples) , He gave them this command, "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift My Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about.  For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Acts 2:1-4    When the day of Pentecost came, they
(120 believers) were all together in one place.  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (Even Pope John Paul II prays in tongues.   www.sign.org/article.phtml?idnum=16)
Acts 2:38-39    Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off - for all whom the Lord our God will call."
Acts 8:14-17    When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God
(Jesus as Messiah), they sent Peter and John to them.  When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.  Then Peter and John placed their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit (baptism).
Acts 10:38 KJV    God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, Who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the  devil, for God was with Him.
Acts 10:44-48    While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.  The circumcised
(Jewish) believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.  Then Peter said, "Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water?  They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have."  So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.  Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
Acts 19:1-7
1Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus.  There he found some disciples 2and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?"  3So he said, "Then in what name were you (water) baptized?"  "John's baptism,"  They replied, "No we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."   4Paul said, "John's (water) baptism was a baptism of repentance.  He told the people to believe in the One coming after him, that is, in Jesus."  5On hearing this, they were (water) baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.  6When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.  7There were about 12 men in all.

Romans 8:26-27    The (Holy) Spirit helps us in our weakness.  We do not know what we are to pray for, but the (Holy) Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.  He Who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the BELIEVERS in accordance with God's will.

1st Corinthians 14:39  NIV   Do not forbid to speak with tongues.
1st Corinthians 14:14-15
14If I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.  15What is it then?  I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the understanding also.  I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the understanding also.

1st John 14:16-18 KJV    I will ask the Father and He shall give you another comforter, that He may abide with you fore ever...I will not leave you comfortless.  I will come to you.

                                                        Baptism of Fire Commentary:
Reinhard Bonnke
in Mighty Manifestations: The Gifts and Power of the Holy Spirit. notes that John baptized with water for the forgiveness of sins, but that the resurrected Christ baptizes with the fire of His Holy Spirit for the power to do God's miraculous work in this generation.

In The Pentecostal Movement (1964) Nils Bloch Hoel MD incorrectly says that tongue-speaking is a psychological illness, and a tongues-speaker is a subspecies.  It is such "theories" that have harmed the psychiatric industry and its patients.  His opinion is unscriptural and unGodly.

When we ask Jesus to baptize us with His Holy Spirit, we become equipped to function as His son or daughter. Our switch is turned on to God, so that now at last He can begin to operate through our infant legs and arms to accomplish His will.  Now we can begin, in baby steps, to resist evil  and to overcome the enemy of depression, suicide, bitterness, anger, rage, indignation, despair, neediness, fear and all those weights which try to overpower us. With the baptism in the Holy Spirit can come the speaking in tongues.  Father Hampsch has a very short but extremely interesting video tape "Why You Should Pray in Tongues" which you might want to look at.  www.claretiantapeministry.org

Both ancient Greek and modern Olympics runners carry a torch of fire that is never extinguished. Another never extinguishable fire is the Holy Spirit.  It burns in our hearts and passions.  It burns out diseases.  Whether as a parent, ministry or mentor, we can carry the torch to the hurting and to the next generation.   In ourselves we can allow the Holy Spirit to burn out all that interferes with His amazing grace.

"Now here is danger.  I never ask people to testify to their sanctification
(baptism in the Holy Spirit) until they are sure they are sanctified.  I only encourage them to take it by faith if they and I am satisfied that their consecration is complete.  Then they may say they have taken sanctification by faith, believe that they are sanctified, and stand on that.  Never say that you are sanctified until you know it."

Bishop T J Jakes aired a 3/05 TV program on praise.  In it he cites the story of nuns who were locked up in basements and dungeons because they broke out in praise and spoke in tongues.  Their peers and superiors considered them crazy or insane.  Likewise, the disciples' were called drunks when the fire of the Holy Spirit fell, causing them to speak in tongues or different languages. www.thepotterstouch.org

Chavda, Mahesh        The Hidden Power of Speaking in Tongues         www.watchofthelord.com
A hidden treasure of a man; a great mentor.  Chapter 3 Opening the Promised Gift shares that speaking aloud in tongues is THE hidden key to moving in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit baptism, which is available to everyone who takes Jesus as his savior and is baptized in water.  Chapter 7 The Secret of Paul's Effectiveness, says Mahesh, is speaking in tongues.  Although Paul was a brilliant scholar of scripture and theology, he failed to recognize Jesus as messiah, until God knocked him off his horse.  He was introduced to the Trinity and subsequently had ongoing intimate fellowship with the Holy Spirit, initiated through speaking in tongues.  It is the Holy Spirit Who personally taught him all that the 12 disciples learned fellowshipping with Jesus!  God's wisdom is always imparted from His Spirit to our spirit.  It is the mind who accepts or rejects this spiritual wisdom.  The human mind is never able to discern/learn Truth, nor is the human body ever good enough to work its way into the graces of God.  Christ did ALL at the cross.  We either accept or reject what Christ did and the Holy Spirit reveals to us (especially as/when we pray in tongues).  Praying in tongues permits the Holy Spirit to do miracles in us and in others, while hiding His work from Satan; the longer/more we pray in tongues, the greater/more complete will be His work.

Chavda's prayer to receive Christ and His Holy Spirit (deposit/contract/engagement ring/prenuptial/guarantee/forgiveness) =
"Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for sending Your Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins.  I believe He died, was buried, and on the 3rd day rose again from the dead.  I do repent of my sins and come to You for mercy and forgiveness.  I renounce Satan and the kingdom of darkness.  I break every family curse over my family and me.  By faith in Your promise, I receive Jesus Christ personally as my Savior and confess Him as my Lord.  Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and give me eternal life and make me a child of God.  Thank You Lord for accepting me. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.  Amen."
Chavda's prayer to receive the fullness of God's Holy Spirit (wedding ring/empowerment/anointing/fruit/9 spiritual gifts) =
"Now, Lord Jesus, I am thirsty for more of You.  I ask You, Lord Jesus, to baptize me in Your Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. By faith I receive Your Holy Spirit now. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen."

That is the kind of relationship you are to have with the Holy Spirit."
Cho, David Yonggi    The 4th Dimension - volume 1
In chapter 1 Incubation - a Law of Faith Cho contends that he does not have 1 of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit; instead he contends that he has the Holy Spirit, Who has the 9 gifts.

Clark, Randy             There Is More                                        www.globalawakening.com
In chapter 13, Randy says that he received his prayer language/tongues in 1971, but that it did not coincide with his receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit.  He notes that many Pentecostals believe that speaking in tongues must come at the same time one is baptized in the Holy Spirit, as evidence of receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit; while many Evangelicals believe that the Holy Spirit baptism must come at the time of conversion.
Randy notes that John Fletcher
(John Wesley's associate) taught that one can have many effusions/pouring outs of the Holy Spirit (one at salvation/water baptism, one at confirmation/Holy Spirit baptism/speaking in tongues, plus other effusions as God deems expedient).
Randy urges us to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit, resulting in (1) a deepening relationship with Christ and (2) much fruit.

Copeland, Kenneth    Kenneth Copeland Ministries    John G Lake                             www.kcm.org
Many people believed that John Lake had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit due to his healing ministry, but in fact it was later that he received the baptism in the Holy Sprit, and God confirmed it by announcing, "You are now baptized in the Holy Spirit."
(Remember, God also made an announcement when the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus like a dove right after He was baptized in water by John the Baptist.)
Speaking in tongues is considered by many to be evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  In one of John Lake's services, a teenage girl named Hilda Daniels chanted in a foreign tongue (which a fellow from East India recognized).  The message was an explanation of salvation.  Lake shared a similar experience where he spoke (witnessed of Jesus) in a tongue (Italian of Naples, Italy - unknown to him) for 15 minutes to a group of laborers at the train station in Logansport, Indiana.
(Please take note/warning that some men not of God also have this skill, but it is of the unholy spirit!)

DeGrandis, Father Robert in The Ten Commandments of Prayer recommends that we pray in tongues to allow the Holy Spirit to minister to the root cause (such as deep emotional problems) of physical ailments. Any one who has been baptized in the Holy Spirit can pray for himself or for another this way, using tongues (another language; sometimes called the language of angels; a second known language, but unknown to the speaker).  Father warns us regarding praying, in any capacity, including tongues, to be persistent and not to quit:  Life, marriage, as well as the baptism in the Holy Spirit has a honeymoon period.  The honeymoon always ends, at least for awhile.  Then comes the school of hard knocks, such as Moses and his nation encountered in the desert.  In the desert of life we experience growing pains.
We finally get enlightenment.  Then the emotional/maturity cycle begins again.

MacNutt, Francis    Deliverance from Evil Spirits               www.christianhealingmin.org
Chapter 23 Baptism in the Holy Spirit shares, "When a group prayed for me as if I were to receive the Spirit
(baptism) for the first time, nothing much happened.  But the next afternoon, when a few friends prayed for a release in me of the gifts of the Spirit (which I had already received in (infant water) baptism, confirmation and ordination), I was overwhelmed with joy, and a wave of laughter swept over me."
"One of the purposes of this immersion in the
(Holy) Spirit is empowered ministry, as Jesus promised His disciples after His resurrection." (Remember, Jesus' disciples did have a healing/deliverance ministry before Jesus died; however, each lacked courage/authority/boldness/character/confidence needed of leadership, until after the Holy Spirit baptism, which came only after Christ was resurrected.) "Even  Jesus in His human nature needed to be empowered  by the (Holy) Spirit before He began His public ministry, preaching, healing and casting out evil spirits...Look at the example of Jesus, Who walked with God for 30 years, then needed a new dimension of union with the Spirit to empower Him for ministry.  I need that empowering, too...
Padre Salvador Carillo...told them
(priests in Mexico City) they should not get trapped into trying to figure out too much theoretically.  The main thing they should ask themselves was whether what happened to the apostles at Pentecost had happened to them.  Where they eager to preach the Gospel?  Where they healing the sick and casting out evil spirits?...
"Tradition says they
(the 12 disciples) were ordained at the Last Supper, almost 2 months before Pentecost.  Yet they were not ready for ministry until the Spirit descended on them at Pentecost."

Fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit are different.  "A gift comes through a single brief impartation, but fruit comes through a slow process of development.  Receiving a spiritual gift does not, in itself, change a person's character...When we pass  from time to eternity, we will leave our gifts behind, but our character will be with us forever."
"Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'  Then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'" Matthew 22-23

Subtitle = The Vital Role of Praying in Tongues
 Portrait Version
Book shares how Dave and Donner, his sister, learned to move mountains by praying up to 8 hours in tongues. The Lord shared with Dave that there is a "spiritual law" - praying in tongues edifies one personally and spiritually; praying in tongues supernaturally builds faith or spiritual backbone/muscle.  Dave contends that the dividing line between Christians with spiritual power and Christians without power is (the absence or presence of) speaking/praying in tongues, the 8th office of the Holy Spirit, which is the foundation/door/switch for all spiritual power/gifts/fruit/muscle of the Holy Spirit. For instance, a pastor may be intellectually qualified but spiritually disqualified, if he does not receive/refuses the gift of tongues.  Praying often in tongues allows our private tutor the Holy Spirit to minister to our human spirit, to remove our old nature, to remove the enemy's nature, and to impart His nature into us.  (Actually what a wonderful thing to do in a mental hospital.  Any patient can cry or sing  aloud in holy tongues and accomplish more healing in one week than the doctors can accomplish in one year.)

Dave contends there are tongues for personal use & for public use.  The following is how Dave translates
1st Corinthians 12:30  Have all the gifts of healing?  (In public places) do all speak with tongues (that need to be interpreted) (In public places) do all interpret (the tongues spoken in public)?
1st Corinthians 14:18    " I (Paul) thank my God, (that) I speak (pray privately) with tongues (that supernatural language of edification that allows/imparts/downloads the Holy Spirit's revelation knowledge) more than you all."
Chapter 7 Praying Out the Mysteries of God's Plan notes that the second we are born again into God's kingdom
(when we ask God to forgive our sins and ask God's Son Jesus to be our Lord), a book/seed/blueprint of God's perfect will/plans for our life is deposited inside our spirit.  Each time we pray in tongues, we allow the Holy Spirit to water/nurture/download into that seed.
Chapter 8 The Channel Through Which the Holy Spirit Speaks reminds us of Jesus' Words.
(Matthew 11:7-14 NKV     7Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, "What (who) did you go out into the wilderness to see?... 9 A Prophet?  Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet, 10for this is he of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your Face, who will prepare Your way before You.'  11Assuredly, I say to you, among those who are born of women there has not risen a greater (person) than John the Baptist; notwithstanding, He Who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.  12From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence; the violent take it by force.  13All the prophets until now prophesied until John.  14If you are willing to receive it, He (John) is Elijah who is to come.
Matthew 11:18-19 NKV   18John came neither eating nor  drinking; they say, 'He (like Jesus) has a demon.'  19The Son of Man (Jesus) came eating and drinking; they say, 'Look, a glutton, wine-biber, and a friend of tax collectors and sinners!'.)
[Consider - John (the Baptist), Jesus' 1st cousin may have had a deposit of God's Holy Spirit while in in womb.
Luke 1:41,44 NKJV  When Elizabeth heard the greeting of  Mary, that babe (inside her) leapt in her womb; Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit...As soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leapt in my womb for joy.)
John's wilderness life probably allowed the Holy Spirit to minister to his human spirit/soul/body.  Dave reminds us that the more we pray in tongues and allow the Spirit to do His work in us, the more God will be able to use us.  John's (and Christ's) life is an example to us of how to doggedly/tenaciously clamp onto the goal (our reason for existence) for which God Himself designed in our lives.]

He shared this 4 part message "with his home youth group at Moriah Loughor...
1-Confess all known sin; 2-Deal with and get rid of anything ‘doubtful’ in your life; 3-Be ready to obey the Holy Spirit instantly; and
4-Confess Christ publicly."

Roberts, Oral          When You See the Invisible, You Can Do the Impossible       www.orm.cc
The book's introduction states strongly that one reason the elderly author is vibrant/young in spirit is due to praying in and interpretation of tongues.
Chapter 20 Why I Make No Decision or Attempt Anything for God without First Praying in the Spirit and Planting a Seed of Faith  shares that both Oral and Evelyn prayed in tongues in crisis or great joy, but not daily.  Suddenly (when Oral was in desperation, on his knees, in tears) the Holy Spirit flowed up in tongues.  Next the English translation poured forth.  Each only lasted approximately one minute.  Oral asked the Lord to let this happen again and again.  God granted this both for him and later for his wife.
1st Corinthians 14:13-15 TNAB  13One who speaks in a tongue should pray to be able to interpret.  14If I pray in a tongue, my spirit is at prayer, but my mind is  unproductive.  15So what is to be done?  I will pray with the spirit, but I will also pray with the mind.  I will sing praise with the spirit, but I will also sing praise with the mind.

Likewise, Merlin Carothers in Prison to Praise www.foundationof praise.org shares that the Lord instructed him first to pray softly in unknown tongues and then to speak out the translation. One key to operating in God's will and His power is to NOT think/argue/debate/discuss but to immediately obey God.  If you consider the thought/command to be a contradiction to scripture, then you should test the spirits.

Chapter 4 In the Work shares, "All who were present came to the altar and make a full consecration and prayed for a baptism of the Holy Spirit and of fire, and that night it came.  15 came to the altar screaming for mercy.  Men and women fell and lay like dead.  I had never seen anything like this.  I felt it was the work of God but did not know how to explain it, or what to say....
The Spirit of God brought before me the vision I had before I started out in the work of the Lord, and said, 'Don't you remember when you were carried away and saw the field of wheat and the sheaves fallingThe large field of wheat was the multitudes of people you are to preach the Gospel toThe falling sheaves is what you see here tonight, the slaying power of GodThis is My powerI told you I would be with you and fight your battles; it is not the wisdom of men, but the power and wisdom of God that is needed to bring sinners from darkness to light.'"

COMMENTARY

In this generation many respected main line fundamentalist churches have forbidden and warned their members not to speak in tongues or be associated with those who do, because of danger of being contaminated by Satan who can speak in tongues.  Yes, Satan and his kingdom can speak in tongues, but such is only mimicking of what the Holy Spirit does in and through His kingdom kids.  Satan is a copy cat.  Never let fear, ignorance, tradition, or church dogma be your boss; you may lose out on what Father God has given you an an inheritance in Jesus Christ.  Be sure to have read the Bible from beginning to end, so that you will know what is in the "will" of Jesus Christ.  Do not be ignorant of what He has left you.  Claim your inheritance!

(passion in English is translated as pati in Latin meaning to suffer)

Psalm 22:24 KJVer
He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted.  Neither has he hid His face from him.  When he cried to Him, He heard.  My Praise shall be of You in the great congregation.

Matthew 10:28
Do NOT be afraid of those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul.  Rather,  be afraid of the one who can destroy both the soul and body in hell.
Matthew 10:39
Jesus said, "He who loses his life for My sake will find it."
Matthew 11:12 KJV    From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence (from the enemy of God).  The violent (men empowered with the Holy Spirit) take (rescue) it by force (from the enemy of God).
Matthew 20:22-23
Jesus answered and said, "You know not what you ask.  Are you able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of and to be baptized with the baptism  that I am baptized with?"  They said to Him, "We are able."  He said to them, "You shall drink indeed of My cup and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized." (This scripture precedes the Palm Sunday chapter.)
Matthew 26:36, 39    Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray."  Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from Me.  Yet not as I will, but as You will." (This scripture precedes the arrest and subsequent death of Jesus.)
Matthew 27:46 KJV    About the 9th hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, Imana sabachthani."("My God, My God, for this I was kept" is an Aramaic/Arabic idiom meaning, This was my destiny; I was  born for this. Aramaic Scripture from New Testament)
Mark 14:32-36 TNAB    32They came to a place named Gethsemane; He said to His disciples, "Sit here while I pray."  33He took with Him Peter, James and John and began to be troubled and distressed.  34Then He said to them, "My  soul is sorrowful even to death.  Remain here and keep watch."  35He advanced a little and fell to the ground and prayed, that if it were possible the hou might pass by Him.  36He said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible to You.  Take this cup away from Me, but mot what I will, but what You will."
Luke 22:39-46 TNAB
39Then going out He went, as was His custom, to the Mount of Olives; His disciples followed Him.  40When He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not undergo the test."  41After withdrawing about a stone's throw from them and kneeling, He prayed, 42saying, "Father, if You are willing, take this cup away from Me; still, not My will but Yours be done."  43[To strengthen Him an angel from heaven appeared to Him.  44He was in such agony and He prayed so fervently that His sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground.]  45When He rose from prayer and returned to His disciples, He found them sleeping from grief.  46He said to them, "Why are you sleeping?  Get up and pray that you may not undergo the test."
Acts 9:16 TNAB    "(Ananias,) I (Jesus) will show him what he (Saul/Paul) will have to suffer for My name."
Acts 14:22-23 KJVer    We must go through much tribulation to enter into the kingdom of God.  When (after) they had ordained them elders in every church and had prayed with fasting, they (then/next) commended them to the Lord, on (in) Whom they believed.
Romans 8:14-23 NIV   Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.  You did NOT receive a(n evil) spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the (Holy) Spirit of sonship.  By Him we cry, "Abba, Father."  The Spirit Himself testifies with our (human) spirit  that we are God's children.  If we are (His) children, then we are heirs (heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ) if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.  I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.  The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.  Creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the One Who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.  We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.  Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first-fruits of the (Holy) Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies (and souls/mind)
Romans 8:31-39 TNAB
31If God is for us, who can be against us?  32He Who did not spare His own Son but handed Him over for us all, how will He not also give us everything else along with Him?  33Who will bring a charge against God's chosen ones?  It is God Who acquits us.  34Who will condemn?  It is Christ [Jesus] Who died, rather, was raised, Who also is at the right hand of God, Who indeed intercedes for us.  35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  Shall  trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger or sword?  36As it is written (in Psalm 44), "For Your sake we are being slain all the day; we are look upon as sheep to be slaughtered."  37No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through Him Who loved us.  38For I am convinced that neither death, life, angels, principalities, present things, future things, powers, 39height, depth, nor any other (evil) creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2nd Corinthians 5:21 TPNT    He
(Father God) made the One  (Jesus) Who did not know sin to be sin (on the cross) on our behalf, so that we ourselves would know the righteousness of God by means of Him.
Philippians 3:10 KJV    I may know Him, the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable to His death, if by any means I might attain to the resurrection of the dead.
Hebrews 2:10 NIV    In bringing many
(spiritual/adopted/saved/forgiven) sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for Whom and through Whom everything exists, should make the Author of their (my/our) salvation perfect through suffering.
Hebrews 5:7 TNAB
In the days when He was
(alive) in the flesh, He offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the One Who was able to save Him from death; (afterward/after His death) He was heard (answered/rescued) because of His reverence.
Hebrews 5:8 KJV
    Though He was the Son
(of God), He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.
Hebrews 12:4
You have not yet resisted to blood
(martyrdom), striving against sin.
James 1:2-3    Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance."
1st Peter 4:12-16 NIV
12Do NOT be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you.  13Rejoice, that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when His glory is revealed.  14If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.  15If you suffer, it should NOT be as a murderer, thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.  16If you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.
Revelation 1:9 KJV    I, John, who also am your brother and companion in tribulation (suffering for the gospel) and in the kingdom, and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, saying, "I am Alpha and Omega, the 1st and last."
Revelation 2:10
"Be faithful until death and I will give you the crown of life."
(Christ's death was not for His own benefit.  His death was a substitute guilt offering for us, entitling us to get a free ticket into heaven.)

Chapter 4 Rhema shares that one's suffering can be "God-appointed" if it blesses others, especially into the kingdom of God; but if your suffering "starts to destroy you, then this is from Satan, and you should pray through and rid yourself of it...Always focus through the lens of the uppermost  goal, the redeeming of  souls.  If you see that your suffering brings abut more redemption than your healing, then do not ask for deliverance; but ask God to give you strength to persevere."

Chapter 8 Why Do the Righteous Suffer?  "There are many in the healing ministry who insist that Paul did not have a physical sickness, that he was referring to his persecutions and trials of faith.  However, in the Book of Galatians he specifically said that it was because of 'a bodily ailment' that he stayed with them to preach the Gospel and reminded these people that they would have gladly plucked out their eyes and given them to him, if it were possible.  And when speaking of the 'thorn in the flesh,' he called it an infirmity and so did the Lord.  This is the very same word in the Greek language that is used in Matthew 8:17, where Isaiah 53:4 is quoted, 'He took our infirmities (sicknesses) and bore our diseases,' to say that Jesus fulfilled this when He healed all the sick in Peter's house."
Sin is deal with in the next verse.  Isaiah 53:5 (KJVer)    He was wounded (physically) for our transgressions.  He was bruised (pierced) for our iniquities (rebellion/sin).  The chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with (by) His stripes (wounds/ whipping)) we ARE healed  (physically).  Benny Hinn explains that the front of the cross/Jesus is for the eradication of sin, while the back of the cross/Jesus is for the eradication of disease/infirmity.

Also - 1/15/2007 Sid Roth Messianic Vision radio broadcast with Christine Uwizera a survivor of the Rwandan holocaust.
Book's chapter 15 Fire of Testing and Persecution discusses mostly psychiatric/emotional/soul torments (due to being a disciple of Christ), although author herself did go through a harrowing time of family devastation during the Rwandan holocaust.  Basically, one who is on fire for Christ, needs to expect that the kingdom of Satan is threatened;  Satin will counterattack, using any method on any weakness/vulnerability we have.  One needs to silently stick to Christ,
even if the end result is martyrdom.  Excellent chapter for those beginning a ministry.

Watchman Nee To-sheng           A Table In The Wilderness    book
(Daily Meditations from the Ministry of Watchman Nee,
a Chinese minister imprisoned for his beliefs and testimony)
Exodus 32:29 - Consecrate yourselves today to the Lord...that He may bestow upon you a blessing.  Based on this scripture, Nee teaches a personal consecration of ourselves to God, over and above our consecration to Him at the time we accept what Jesus did for us on the cross.  Nee teaches a consecration that excludes any work we may do for the Lord.  It is a personal relationship, like that of a wedding, compared to an earlier bridal engagement, as at salvation.  Engagements often have one ring for the finger of the bride-to-be.  At weddings there is often a second ring for the bride.  Nee teaches a consecration to the "will of God."  During many marriage vows we say that we will marry our mate for better or worse, in sickness until death.  It is a life commitment. If you make such a consecration, mark the date in your Bible; then renew that commitment each year.

John was exiled to the lonely isle of Patmos.
Stephen was stoned to death by an angry crowd.
Matthew was stabbed to death in Persia by a mob.
Mark died as horses pulled his 2 legs apart.
Doctor Luke was cruelly hanged.
Peter, Philip and Simon were crucified on a  cross.

Thomas died in India as 5 horses pulled his body apart.
The apostle James was beheaded by King Herod.
Little James was cut in half by a sharp saw.
James the brother of the Lord was stoned to death.
Judas was tied to a pillar and shot by arrows.
Matthias had his head cut off in Jerusalem.
Paul was a martyr under Emperor Nero.
The  Lord spoke to Liu (Brother Yun), "The reason you suffer is so you can partake in the fellowship of My suffering.  Be still and know that I am God."

                                                                  Commentary:
Beware
of Watchman Nee's    The Latent Power of the Soul    where Nee attributes paranormal exploits to the subconscious mind rather than to evil spirits.  However, he does realize that such activity is demonic.
Beware
of the religious philosophy that things such as disease and trouble are to be endured since Christ also suffered.  Much of what we suffer is the consequence of our wrong choices or from inherited curses.
Christ's suffering was prophesied in the Old Testament to fulfill God's promise to rescue man.  There is a huge divide between suffering/persecution for believing in Jesus Christ and non religious suffering!

                                       of Commission for ministry
Matthew 10:1,5,8
He (while Jesus was still alive) called His 12 disciples to Him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every  disease and sickness...These 12, Jesus sent out with the following instructions, "...Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons."
Matthew 28:18-19 NIV    Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

Mark 16:14-18    Later (after Jesus' resurrection from the dead) Jesus appeared to the 11 as they were eating.  He rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.  He said to them. "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.  Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned (by satin and by their unforgiven sin).  These signs will accompany those who believe: In My name:  They will  drive out demons.  They will speak in new tongues.  They will pick up snakes with their hands.  When they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all.  They will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."  After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and He sat at the right hand of God.  Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed His word by the signs that accompanied it.

Luke 4:18-19    The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me (me) to preach the gospel to the poor.  He has sent Me (me) to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.  (Spiritual insight = Jesus/the Holy Spirit in me is God at work in the earth.)

John 20:19-23
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came (through the locked door) and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you"  After He said this, He showed them His (crucified) hands and side.  The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.  Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you.  As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you."  With that He breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit.  If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven (released from apologizing and debt owed, but not free to abuse).  If you (retain) do not forgive them, they are (retained) not forgiven."
Now Thomas (called Didymus) 1 of the 12, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.

1st Peter 1:1-2    Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, "To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by His blood.

Baker, Rolland and Heidi              There Is Always Enough                 www.irismin.com

True stories of the Adullam Rescue Mission, Yunnafu, China, where God visited personally ALL the children ages 6-18 and baptized them with His Holy Spirit.  This book shows how the Holy Spirit bypasses the mind (soul) to work as a spirit using our bodies, the same way that sometimes an evil spirit works. An eye opener.  Baker shares that prophetic preaching is the mouth speaking in tongues (bypassing the mind), with interpretation following.

Autobiography.  Father insists that as a certified college professor, priest, chaplain, and pastoral counselor, he would be disqualified - without the baptism in the Holy Spirit - and end up with human results rather than God's.  He also notes that the short time after the Holy Spirit baptism is the honeymoon period. He says this baptism is a must for each of us, not only for priests and revered saints.  He was privileged to be prayed over by Kathryn Kuhlman in Jerusalem. He remarks that only one who has a personal relationship with Christ can evangelize and explain to others their need for a personal relationship with Jesus; one cannot share what he does not have. You cannot share a loaf of bread if you have no bread. The spirit of Christ is contagious, like a virus, and not taught.

Copeland, Kenneth    Kenneth Copeland Ministries    John G Lake                  www.kcm.org
Lake contends that one must consecrate his spirit, his mind, and his body to God.  Salvation/water baptism of the spirit alone is insufficient for God to do His best work in us.  God wants us to be clones of Jesus, sons with Holy Spirit powers equal to Jesus.  We must not be so heavenly minded that we are no earthly good.  We must daily (until death) hunger after and pursue the mind of God in each situation, be translated to heaven, and then with Holy Spirit boldness accomplish on earth what He has already been accomplished in heaven.  Most of us do no take what has already been accomplished in heaven.  That is why many prayers are not answered.  It is not God's fault.  It is not Satan's fault.  It is our neglect.  God is waiting on us to act on our own behalf and on the behalf of others.  This is our mandate as brothers/sisters of Christ and sons/daughters of God.  Wake up.  Do not lose 40 years as Moses did.  In Chapter 25 Adventures in God Lake testifies that God healed him of a 9 year bout with constipation upon his 100% consecration of his spirit, mind and body to God.
Chapter 25 also addresses Paul's thorn in the flesh.  Lake contends that on the 3rd plea, Paul was healed.  Lake believes 2nd Corinthians 12:9 should read, "Paul, My grace is sufficient for you
(to heal your spirit, to heal your mind and to heal your body)!
Chapter 43 The Baptism of the Holy Ghost has a plethora of "awe inspiring, unique, and encouraging" sermons. This chapter in itself is a reason to buy this book.  We recommend it as a "must read" book.

Frodsham, Stanley H              With Signs Following                      www.persecution.com
May 2004 magazine The Voice of the Martyrs spells out the trials of those who first printed the Bible in various countries and the trials even now in many countries.  The Word of God is surely written in not only the blood of Christ, but also the blood of many translators, printers, and holy smugglers. Certainly scripture contains the secrets to eternal life, and to the healing of infirmities, broken relationships, broken bodies and broken minds.  It is a treasure the enemy does not want us to share.

Graham, Billy                         The Holy Spirit
Graham says that it is a waste of our/God's time to pant after power which we do not intend to use, for might in prayer that we do not intend to pray, for strength to testify when we do not intend to witness, for power unto holiness without the aim to pursuing it, for grace to suffer without taking up our cross for Him, and for power in service while we sit idle; God gives dying grace only to the dying!

Some who cannot speak/pray/sing in tongues or who can only say a few words (after asking for the baptism in the Holy spirit) may be prevented by hindering/interfering evil spirits, perhaps due to past occult involvement, such as dabbling with a Ouija board.  We can  ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any open doors which let the evil spirit enter.  Then we need to shut the door, after evicting the demon.

Branham had a marvelous, magnificent healing ministry.  Per book 4, he contended that each Christian must have the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which he considered to be the seal of the Holy Spirit.  He did NOT believe that speaking in tongues is evidence of baptism.  He considered the fruit of the Spirit to be the real test.  However, he did believe in speaking in tongues and the other gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Regardless of our doctrinal position, if we follow Jesus' example as protocol, then baptism by immersion seems to be the spiritual thing to do.  This can be done in a swimming pool, in a large pot of clay, in a river, or in the ocean, as well as at church.

(Water baptism is the typical public ceremony of one's decision/testimony to accept what God says in the Bible.) Benny Hinn seems to teach that when one is born again that one receives 100% infilling of the Holy Spirit.  The necessary baptism in the Holy Spirit seems to be for commissioning.  Check it out.  He also teaches that healing is available for the body at the same time that one receives salvation and/or baptism.  In other words, the Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit, bringing with it/Him all the benefits for spirit/body/mind

    RESEARCH

www.pastoranne.org                                     SPEAKING IN TONGUES AND THE BRAIN

DR. PETERSON, ORAL rOBERTS UNIVERSITY BRAIN SURGEON, RAN A TEST WHICH PROVED THAT WHEN SPEAKING IN TONGUES A PART OF THE BRAIN (1) LIGHTS UP THAT DOES NOT DO SO AT ANY OTHER TIME and (2) RELEASES 2 CHEMICALS THAT BOOST THE IMMUNE SYSTEM.

N.Y. TIMES/WORLDNET and DAILY/DRUDGE REPORT that now there is  neuroscience  to back up
THE PASSIONATE, RHYTHMIC, LANGUAGE  of speaking (praying) in tongues.

RESEARCHERS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA TOOK BRAIN IMAGES OF 5 WOMEN WHILE THEY SPOKE IN TONGUES AND FOUND THAT THEIR FRONTAL LOBES  (THE THINKING, WILLFUL PART OF THE BRAIN THROUGH WHICH PEOPLE CONTROL WHAT THEY DO) WERE RELATIVELY QUIET, AS WERE THE LANGUAGE CENTERS.   THE REGIONS INVOLVED IN MAINTAINING SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS WERE ACTIVE. THE WOMEN WERE NOT IN BLIND TRANCES, AND IT WAS UNCLEAR WHICH REGION WAS DRIVING THE BEHAVIOR.

One ISSUE OF THE JOURNAL PSYCHIATRY RESEARCH notes that recent neuroimages (TAKEN DURING THIS SPOKEN RELIGIOUS PRACTICE of speaking in unknown tongues) PINPOINT THE MOST ACTIVE AREAS OF THE BRAIN.
"THE IMAGES SUPPORTED PEOPLE'S INTERPRETATION OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING, THE WAY THEY DESCRIBE IT, AND WHAT THEY BELIEVE, IS THAT GOD IS TALKING THROUGH THEM,”
IN THE STUDY, RESEARCHERS USED IMAGING TECHNIQUES TO TRACK CHANGES IN BLOOD FLOW IN EACH WOMAN'S BRAIN IN TWO CONDITIONS, ONCE AS SHE SANG A GOSPEL SONG AND AGAIN WHILE SPEAKING IN TONGUES. BY COMPARING THE PATTERNS, THE RESEARCHERS COULD PINPOINT BLOOD-FLOW PEAKS AND VALLEYS UNIQUE TO SPEAKING IN TONGUES.

CONTRARY TO WHAT MAY BE A COMMON PERCEPTION, STUDIES SUGGEST THAT (Christian) PEOPLE WHO SPEAK IN TONGUES RARELY SUFFER FROM MENTAL PROBLEMS.
A RECENT STUDY OF NEARLY 1,000 EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS IN ENGLAND FOUND THAT THOSE WHO ENGAGED IN THE PRACTICE WERE MORE EMOTIONALLY STABLE THAN THOSE WHO DID NOT.
THE NEW FINDINGS CONTRASTED SHARPLY WITH IMAGES TAKEN OF OTHER SPIRITUALLY INSPIRED MENTAL STATES LIKE MEDITATION, WHICH IS OFTEN A HIGHLY FOCUSED MENTAL EXERCISE, ACTIVATING THE FRONTAL LOBES.
THE SCANS ALSO SHOWED A DIP IN THE ACTIVITY OF A REGION CALLED THE LEFT CAUDATE.

“THE FINDINGS FROM THE FRONTAL LOBES ARE VERY CLEAR, AND MAKE SENSE, BUT THE CAUDATE IS USUALLY ACTIVE WHEN YOU HAVE POSITIVE AFFECT, PLEASURE, POSITIVE EMOTIONS,” SAID, A PSYCHOLOGIST AT THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA.
“SO IT'S NOT SO CLEAR WHAT THAT FINDING SAYS” ABOUT SPEAKING IN TONGUES.
THE CAUDATE AREA IS ALSO INVOLVED IN MOTOR AND EMOTIONAL CONTROL, SO IT MAY BE THAT PRACTITIONERS, WHILE MINDFUL OF THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES, NONETHELESS CEDE SOME CONTROL OVER THEIR BODIES AND EMOTIONS.
