BAPTISM of the HOLY SPIRIT
Baptism of Fire
Isaiah 28:11-12 KJV With (through our)
stammering lips and another tongue (heavenly language)
will He speak to this people. To whom He said, "This
rest (interior peace) wherewith you may cause the we rest; this is the refreshing; yet,
they would not hear (listen/accept/believe/apply to
their circumstances)."
Matthew 3:7,11-12 When he saw many of the Pharisees and
Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them, "...I baptize
you with water for repentance, but after me will come One who is more
powerful than I, Whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize
you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Mark 16:17 These signs shall follow them that BELIEVE. In My name shall they cast out devils. They shall speak with new tongues. (Tongues is our praying out loud in a language, personally unknown to us, and is often a form of praise)
Luke 3:16-17 "I
(John the Baptist) am
baptizing you with water, but there is One to come Who is mightier than
I...He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire."
Luke 11:13 "If
you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how
much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ASK Him,"
(says Jesus).
Luke 12:49 "I have come to cast fire on
the earth and would (prefer) that it were already
kindled."
John 1:3 "Upon whom you see the
Spirit descending, and remaining on Him; this is He who baptizes with the Holy
Spirit."
John 14:17 The (Holy)
Sprit dwells with you (water baptism) and will be in you
(fire baptism).
Acts 1:4-5,8 On one occasion, while
He (Jesus) was eating with them (the disciples)
, He gave them this command, "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait
for the gift My Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about. For
John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be
baptized with
the Holy Spirit."
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be
My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the
earth."
Acts 2:1-4 When the day of Pentecost
came, they (120 believers) were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the
blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they
were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that
separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled
with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit
enabled them. (Even Pope John Paul II prays in tongues.
www.sign.org/article.phtml?idnum=16)
Acts 2:38-39 Peter replied, "Repent
and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for
the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off -
for all whom the Lord our God will call."
Acts 8:14-17 When the apostles in
Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God (Jesus
as Messiah), they sent Peter and
John to them. When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might
receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any
of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
Then Peter and John placed their hands on them and they received the Holy
Spirit (baptism).
Acts 10:38 KJV God anointed Jesus of
Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, Who went about doing good and
healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him.
Acts 10:44-48 While Peter was still
speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.
The circumcised (Jewish) believers who had come with Peter
were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the
Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then
Peter said, "Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water?
They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have." So he ordered that
they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter
to stay with them for a few days.
Acts 19:1-7
1Paul took the road
through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples
2and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?"
3So he said, "Then in what name
were you
(water) baptized?"
"John's baptism," They replied, "No we have not even
heard that there is a Holy Spirit."
4Paul said, "John's
(water) baptism was a baptism of repentance.
He told the people to believe in the One coming after him, that is, in Jesus."
5On hearing this, they were
(water) baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
6When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them,
and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
7There were about 12 men in all.
Romans 8:26-27 The (Holy) Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we are to pray for, but the (Holy) Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. He Who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the BELIEVERS in accordance with God's will.
1st Corinthians 14:39 NIV Do not forbid to
speak with tongues.
1st Corinthians 14:14-15 14If I pray in an
unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15What
is it then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the
understanding also. I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the
understanding also.
1st John 14:16-18 KJV I will ask the Father and He shall give you another comforter, that He may abide with you fore ever...I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you.
Baptism of Fire Commentary:
Reinhard Bonnke in Mighty Manifestations: The Gifts and Power of the Holy
Spirit. notes that John baptized with water for the forgiveness of sins, but
that the resurrected Christ baptizes with the fire of His Holy Spirit for
the power to do God's miraculous work in this generation.
In The Pentecostal Movement (1964) Nils Bloch Hoel MD incorrectly says that tongue-speaking is a psychological illness, and a tongues-speaker is a subspecies. It is such "theories" that have harmed the psychiatric industry and its patients. His opinion is unscriptural and unGodly.
When we ask Jesus to baptize us with His Holy Spirit, we become equipped to function as His son or daughter. Our switch is turned on to God, so that now at last He can begin to operate through our infant legs and arms to accomplish His will. Now we can begin, in baby steps, to resist evil and to overcome the enemy of depression, suicide, bitterness, anger, rage, indignation, despair, neediness, fear and all those weights which try to overpower us. With the baptism in the Holy Spirit can come the speaking in tongues. Father Hampsch has a very short but extremely interesting video tape "Why You Should Pray in Tongues" which you might want to look at. www.claretiantapeministry.org
Both ancient Greek and modern Olympics runners carry a torch of
fire that is never extinguished. Another never extinguishable fire is the Holy Spirit.
It burns in our hearts and passions. It burns out diseases. Whether
as a parent, ministry or mentor, we can carry the torch to the hurting and to
the next generation. In ourselves we can allow the Holy Spirit to
burn out all that interferes with His amazing grace.

Chapter 8 Instances of Healing admonishes us
"Now here is danger. I never ask people to testify to their sanctification
(baptism in the Holy Spirit) until they are sure they are
sanctified. I only encourage them to take it by faith if they and I am
satisfied that their consecration is complete. Then they may say they have
taken sanctification by faith, believe that they are sanctified, and stand on
that. Never say that you are sanctified until you know it."
Bishop T J Jakes aired a 3/05 TV program on praise. In it he cites the story of nuns who were locked up in basements and dungeons because they broke out in praise and spoke in tongues. Their peers and superiors considered them crazy or insane. Likewise, the disciples' were called drunks when the fire of the Holy Spirit fell, causing them to speak in tongues or different languages. www.thepotterstouch.org

The Hidden Power of Speaking in

A hidden treasure of a man; a great mentor.
Chapter 3 Opening the Promised Gift shares that speaking aloud in tongues
is THE hidden key to moving in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit
baptism, which is available to everyone who takes Jesus as his savior and is
baptized in water. Chapter 7 The Secret of Paul's Effectiveness,
says Mahesh, is speaking in tongues. Although Paul was a brilliant scholar
of scripture and theology, he failed to recognize Jesus as messiah, until God
knocked him off his horse. He was introduced to the Trinity and
subsequently had ongoing intimate fellowship with the Holy Spirit, initiated
through speaking in tongues. It is the Holy Spirit Who personally taught
him all that the 12 disciples learned fellowshipping with Jesus! God's
wisdom is always imparted from His Spirit to our spirit. It is the mind
who accepts or rejects this spiritual wisdom. The human mind is never able
to discern/learn Truth, nor is the human body ever good enough to work its way
into the graces of God. Christ did ALL at the cross. We either
accept or reject what Christ did and the Holy Spirit reveals to us (especially
as/when we pray in tongues). Praying in tongues permits the Holy Spirit to
do miracles in us and in others, while hiding His work from Satan; the
longer/more we pray in tongues, the greater/more complete will be His work.

There Is More
www.globalawakening.com
In chapter 13, Randy says that he received his prayer language/tongues in 1971,
but that it did not coincide with his receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit. He notes that many
Pentecostals believe that speaking in tongues must come at the same time one is
baptized in the Holy Spirit, as evidence of receiving the baptism in the Holy
Spirit; while many Evangelicals believe that the Holy Spirit baptism must come
at the time of conversion.
Randy notes that John Fletcher (John Wesley's associate)
taught that one can have many effusions/pouring outs of the Holy Spirit
(one at salvation/water baptism, one at confirmation/Holy Spirit
baptism/speaking in tongues, plus other effusions as God deems expedient).
Randy urges us to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit, resulting in (1) a
deepening relationship with Christ and (2) much fruit.

John G Lake
www.kcm.org
Many people believed that John Lake had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit
due to his healing ministry, but in fact it was later that he received the
baptism in the Holy Sprit, and God confirmed it by announcing, "You are now
baptized in the Holy Spirit."
(Remember, God also made an announcement when the Holy Spirit descended
upon Jesus like a dove right after He was baptized in water by John the Baptist.)
Speaking in tongues is considered by many to be evidence of the
baptism of the Holy Spirit. In one of John Lake's services, a teenage girl
named Hilda Daniels chanted in a foreign tongue (which a fellow from East India
recognized). The message was an explanation of salvation. Lake shared
a similar experience where he spoke (witnessed of Jesus)
in a tongue (Italian of Naples, Italy - unknown to him)
for 15 minutes to a group of laborers at the train station in Logansport,
Indiana.
(Please take note/warning that some men not of God also
have this skill, but it is of the unholy spirit!)
DeGrandis, Father Robert in The Ten Commandments of Prayer
recommends that we pray in tongues to allow the Holy Spirit to minister to the
root cause (such as deep emotional problems) of physical ailments.
Any one who has been baptized in the Holy Spirit can pray for himself or for
another this way, using tongues (another language; sometimes called the language
of angels; a second known language, but unknown to the speaker). Father
warns us regarding praying, in any capacity, including tongues, to be persistent
and not to quit: Life, marriage, as well as the baptism in the Holy Spirit
has a honeymoon period. The honeymoon always ends, at least for awhile.
Then comes the school of hard knocks, such as Moses and his nation encountered
in the desert. In the desert of life we experience growing pains.
We
finally get enlightenment. Then the emotional/maturity cycle begins again.

(1) violently/ aggressively/tenaciously pray in tongues plus (2)

We declare that the stone thrown away by the builder has become the chief
cornerstone. We declare with Joseph that what the enemy intended for evil,
God intended for good. Likewise, we stand with Christ on the neck of the
enemy and declare that he is under our feet. Likewise, there will be more

Chapter 23 Baptism in the Holy Spirit shares, "When a group prayed for me
as if I were to receive the Spirit (baptism) for the first
time, nothing much happened. But the next afternoon, when a few friends
prayed for a release in me of the gifts of the Spirit (which I had already
received in (infant water) baptism, confirmation and
ordination), I was overwhelmed with joy, and a wave of laughter swept over me."
"One of the purposes of this immersion in the (Holy)
Spirit is empowered ministry, as Jesus promised His disciples after His
resurrection." (Remember, Jesus' disciples did have a healing/deliverance
ministry before Jesus died; however, each lacked
courage/authority/boldness/character/confidence needed of leadership, until
after the Holy Spirit baptism, which came only after Christ was resurrected.)
"Even Jesus in His human nature needed to be empowered
by the (Holy) Spirit before He began His public ministry,
preaching, healing and casting out evil spirits...Look at the example of Jesus,
Who walked with God for 30 years, then needed a new dimension of union with the
Spirit to empower Him for ministry. I need that empowering, too...
Padre Salvador Carillo...told them (priests in Mexico City)
they should not get trapped into trying to figure out too much theoretically.
The main thing they should ask themselves was whether what happened to the
apostles at Pentecost had happened to them. Where they eager to preach the
Gospel? Where they healing the sick and casting out evil spirits?...
"Tradition says they (the 12 disciples) were ordained at
the Last Supper, almost 2 months before Pentecost. Yet they were not ready
for ministry until the Spirit descended on them at Pentecost."

Fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit are different. "A gift comes through a

Receiving a spiritual gift does not, in itself, change a person's

behind, but our character will be with us forever." "Many

The book's introduction states strongly that one reason the elderly author is

Chapter 20 Why I Make No Decision or Attempt Anything for God without First
Praying in the Spirit and Planting a Seed of Faith shares that both
Oral and Evelyn prayed in tongues in crisis or great joy, but not daily.
Suddenly (when Oral was in desperation, on his knees, in tears) the Holy Spirit
flowed up in tongues. Next the English translation poured forth.
Each only lasted approximately one minute. Oral asked the Lord to let this happen
again and again. God granted this both for him and later for his wife.
1st Corinthians 14:13-15 TNAB
13One who speaks in a tongue should pray to be able to
interpret. 14If I pray in a
tongue, my spirit is at prayer, but my mind is unproductive. 15So
what is to be done? I will pray with the spirit, but I will also pray with
the mind. I will sing praise with the spirit, but I will also sing praise
with the mind.

Likewise, Merlin Carothers in Prison to Praise www.foundationof praise.org shares
that the Lord instructed him first to pray softly in unknown tongues and then to
speak out the translation. One key to operating in God's will and His
power is to NOT think/argue/debate/discuss but to immediately obey God. If
you consider the thought/command to be a contradiction to scripture, then you
should test the spirits.

Chapter 4 In the Work shares, "All who were present came to the altar and
make a full consecration and prayed for a baptism of the Holy Spirit and
of fire, and that night it came. 15 came to the altar screaming for mercy.
Men and women fell and lay like dead. I had never seen anything like this.
I felt it was the work of God but did not know how to explain it, or what to
say....
The Spirit of God brought before me the vision I had before I started out in the
work of the Lord, and said, 'Don't you remember
when you were carried away and saw the field of wheat and
the sheaves falling? The large field of wheat
was the multitudes of people you are to preach the Gospel to.
The falling sheaves is what you see here tonight, the
slaying power of God. This is My power.
I told you I would be with you and fight your battles; it
is not the wisdom of men, but the power and wisdom
of God that is needed to bring sinners from darkness to light.'"

COMMENTARY
In this generation many respected main line fundamentalist churches have forbidden and warned their members not to speak in tongues or be associated with those who do, because of danger of being contaminated by Satan who can speak in tongues. Yes, Satan and his kingdom can speak in tongues, but such is only mimicking of what the Holy Spirit does in and through His kingdom kids. Satan is a copy cat. Never let fear, ignorance, tradition, or church dogma be your boss; you may lose out on what Father God has given you an an inheritance in Jesus Christ. Be sure to have read the Bible from beginning to end, so that you will know what is in the "will" of Jesus Christ. Do not be ignorant of what He has left you. Claim your inheritance!
