ASD
Atrium Septum Defect

UNDERSTANDING

The heart has 4 chambers - 2 in the upper and 2 in the lower. The upper ones during development are connected with each other. Just before birth they close. If they have not closed you have ASD. (Atrium septum defect). That’s something which should not happen after birth because the right side of the heart has the Venus blood and the left side has arterial blood.  If they mix you have a problem. Surgery can close the hole so that each hearts’ side is separated from the other.
