Black Plague

Insights

Black Plague in the 1300's was possibly the bubonic plague  http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/science/medicine/plague.htm "Bubonic plague. Fleas carry it in the blood they suck; if a flea bites an infected person or animal (usually it's rats) and then bites you, then you'll get it too. People do still get bubonic plague, even today. But today we can cure it with antibiotics, and so most people who get it live."

Consequences

MEDICAL - In the 1300's during the black plague most cities across the entire existing world experienced death of the majority of their population.  "Supposedly 800 people died in Paris each day, 500 a day in Pisa, and up to 600 a day in Vienna. Some cities lost anywhere from 50-70% of their populations. Monasteries, also being crowded, suffered similar death rates. In the countryside where people were more spread out, maybe 20-30% of the population perished" http://www.flowofhistory.com/units/west/10/FC71

SPIRITUAL - During and after the black plague of the 1300's, "the (Catholic) church had several other fund raising options in addition to selling serfs their freedom: selling church offices (simony), letting one man buy several offices at the same time, charging fees for all sorts of church services, and selling indulgences to buy time out of Purgatory after one died. These practices plus the Church's inability to cope with the crisis of the Black Death led to growing public discontent. As a result, the Church would experience serious challenges to its authority in the Later Middle Ages." http://www.flowofhistory.com/units/west/10/FC71

Spiritual

Job 2:7 KIV Satan smote Job with boils (one of the symptoms of the black plague.  However, Job's malady was NOT contagious, medically speaking.)
2nd Chronicles 6:12,14,28-29 NIV 12Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord...14He said...28"When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when enemies besiege them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come, 29and when a prayer or plea is made by any of Your people Israel, each one aware of his afflictions and pains, and spreading out his hands toward this temple, 30then hear from heaven Your dwelling place.  Forgive and dealt with each man according to all he does, since You know his heart."
Psalm 91:1,6 NIV   1He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  2I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in Whom I trust." 3surely He will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence...5You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.  7A 1,000 may fall at your side, 10,000 at your right hand, but it will NOT come near you.
Revelation 9:15-21 NIV   4 angels who had been kept ready for this very hour, day, month and year were released to kill a third of mankind...18A third of mankind was killed by the 3 plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths...20 The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood - idols that cannot see, hear, or walk.  21Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.
Revelation 21:9 NIV   1 of the 7 angels who had the 7 bowls full of the 7 last plagues came and said.
