"It is described as seeing with sound.
For blind people, just a click of the tongue can help them figure out how wide a street is, whether there is a building on the other side of the street & where the best place to cross the street is by listening to echoes.
'What you learn to do is understand the difference in the sound that bounces off the environment.
For example, if I'm looking at a stonewall, the sound is going to bounce off that stone wall differently than if I was looking at a bush,' explained Dan Kish.  Kish along with his colleague Brian Bushway, have been in Kolkata for the last week in collaboration with Mercy Hospital teaching blind children how to use the science of echo-location.
'Many blind people throughout history have experienced echolocation & probably most of the students we're working with have experienced it at some level,' Dan Kish said.  On Wednesday, approximately 20 students from Divine Fellowship Blind School in Joka were taught to click their tongues & listen. After practicing inside Mercy Hospital, they went out to an open space & were told to find the nearest building by hearing the echoes.
At 1st a bit hesitant, the students clicked their way towards a building. 
Then they were told to turn away from the building & compare the sound.
So what was the difference between the click facing the structure versus having the building behind them?
'When I face the building there is a hard sound. When I turn around then there's a light sound,' 1 of the students said. Gradually the students moved from identifying buildings to finding a parked car, using the click to figure out its size.
'I want you to hear this car,' instructed Kish. 'This car sounds large, kind of like the building. It so sounds solid.'
The students faced the car & clicked their tongues & then turned away from the car to click.
'How can you tell it's a car? A car has different heights to it.
The front of the car is usually lower than the middle of the car...you can tell something is a car because of its shape. You can hear that the front of the car is lower than your shoulders.  The middle is higher than your shoulder,' he explained.  They moved onto a tree, to hear the difference between the tree & the car.
By the end of the week, the students will be brought to an unfamiliar environment & have to identify their surrounds on their own, giving them a skill to help them in life.  Kish experienced echolocation at a young age.
When he was just a year old he had cancer of the retina & subsequently had to have both eyes removed & replaced with plastic ones.
But he said his parents raised him as if he could see & exposed him to things they would introduce to any other child. He taught himself to understand his environment through sound. Normally, the vitreous gel is anchored to the back of the eye.

Whatever you do, do NOT use a microwave to melt your coconut oil.
Microwaves change the molecular structure of the oil & kills the lauric acid that makes coconut oil so valuable. 
Once the oil was liquefied, I let it cool & used a small glass dropper to withdraw some from the bowl.
I tipped my head back & put a few drops in each eye.
For a couple of minutes, my eyes were cloudy, but soon they cleared right up. 
I did this twice a day, morning & evening, for a week and found there was a substantial decrease in dryness.
I seemed to be producing more natural tears & my eyes did not feel nearly as tired by the end of the day. 
In addition to dropping the coconut oil into my eyes, I also put a little around my eyes at night.
This helped to soften & moisturize the skin around my eyes.
I am happy to report that I am now putting the drops in my eyes about 3 times a week.
They seem to be doing the trick. NO more over-the-counter lubricating drops for me.  Coconut oil wins again."

This permanently scars the retina, but may prevent or slow further vision loss.  Macular degeneration is the slow destruction of the macula, the portion of the retina that is needed for sharp, central vision.
In macular degeneration central vision is lost first and gradually progresses out affecting side or peripheral vision. Vision loss is permanent. The cause of macular degeneration is unknown & there is no effective treatment.
When macular degeneration occurs later in life it is usually referred to as age-related macular degeneration to distinguish it from other forms that may be inherited & appear early in life.  For many years the inability of damaged retinal neurons & optic nerve to regrow was (incorrectly) accepted almost as a “law of nature,” & on the clinical level, retinal injury was seen as being irreversible & corresponding vision loss was permanent.
Today medical researchers are starting to unlock the secrets of neuronal regeneration.
Under the right conditions, injury to the retina & optic nerve can be healed.
A number of studies over past 2 decades have demonstrated that mature RBCs can be transformed into an active regenerative state allowing these neurons to survive injury & to regenerate axons in the injured optic nerve...
  A special group of naturally occurring proteins called brain-derived neurotrophic factors (BDNFs)
show great promise. BDNFs play a key role in regulating survival, growth, & maintenance of neurons.
They help support the survival of existing neurons & encourage the growth & differentiation of new neurons.  Normally, injury to the optic nerve induces a rapid die-back of the axons leading to retinal ganglion cell death. However, when an adequate amount of BDNFs are present, the effects of injury are diminished & RGCs can be repaired or regenerated. 
Animal studies have shown that after severing the optic nerve in adult rats, retinal ganglion cells progressively degenerate until, after two months, a residual population of only about 5% of these cells survive.
When BDNFs are present, however, survival rate significantly increases.
EG: in 1 study researchers severed the optic nerves in a group of rats.  Injury to the optic nerve caused a rapid, progressive degeneration of the axons & death of the RGCs. After 3 weeks, only 10% of the RGCs survived.
After 5 weeks, the number dropped to 8%, & by the 7th week only 5% remained.
In a 2nd group of rats BDNFs was injected into their eyes before the optic nerve was severed.

In this group, 2-3x as many RGCs survived compared to untreated controls.1

Studies show that after severing the optic nerve,
BDNFs not only protect RGCs from dying, but promote regrowth of the axons. 
RGCs sprout new axons, elongate, & form functional connections with other neurons.   
In lab animals that have had their optic nerves severed, BDNFs allowed them to recover the ability of light-dark
 
discrimination.2 In essence, researchers have been able to restore partial sight to blind mice.

We always have some BDNFs circulating in our central nervous system that helps protect our brains & eye from degeneration. However, people with diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and macular degeneration have a deficiency of BDNFs, which makes them more susceptible to neurodegeneration & visual problems.
3-4BDNFs provide the potential for preventing degenerative vision loss & possibly even restoring lost vision. In animal studies, BDNFs can be injected directly into the eyeball to boost levels of these protective proteins.       Clinically, this process is not feasible because in order to maintain therapeutic levels of BDNFs, multiple injections are needed over a period of time to maximize the benefit.5Fortunately, BDNFs are produced naturally in our       bodies. Using this fact, another approach to raise BDNFs to therapeutic levels is to boost body’s own production of these protective proteins.
This can be done simply through diet.The production of BDNFs is stimulated by the presence of ketones.
Ketones are produced from fatty acids stored in body & provide an alternative to glucose as a source of brain fuel.
Normally, our cells, including our brain cells, use glucose as their primary source of fuel.
Most the glucose in our bodies comes from carbohydrates in our foods...

Another way to raise ketones, & consequently BDNFs, is by eating coconut oil. Coconut oil is composed predominately of the unique group of fatty acids known as medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs).
When consumed, a significant proportion of MCFAs are automatically converted into ketones, regardless of blood glucose levels.  We can raise blood ketone & BDNF levels simply by adding coconut oil into our daily diet.
If you eat enough coconut oil, you can raise blood levels of BDNFs to therapeutic levels.
This would require the daily consumption of 3-6 tablespoons of coconut oil daily.
A smaller amount would be needed if you combine coconut oil with a very low-carb diet.  If you want to preserve your vision 7 protect yourself from encountering age-related degenerative eye disorders that affect the retina & optic nerve, your safest & most effective approach would be to incorporate coconut oil into your daily diet.

UV light affects the front of the eye (cataract formation), while blue light causes damage to the back of the eye (risk of AMD). 
Essilor & the Paris Vision Institute established a goal of finding a selective light filter or lens to block out UV as well as harmful blue-violet light & yet allow blue-turquoise light and longer wavelengths of light to continue to penetrate through it.  They did this with Light Scan, a patented, selective, noglare technology with 3 key features:
1) it selectively filters out harmful blue-violet and UV light,
2) it allows the beneficial visible light, including the blue-turquoise light, to pass through &
3) it maintains an excellent transparency of the lens, so there's no color distortion. 
You get excellent clarity with the lens. 
They ended up providing a lens with front-side as well as back-side protection. The front side of the lens defl ects UV light as well as about 20% of the blue-violet light to then defl ect away the harmful rays. The back side protects the patient from the reflective glare that comes off the back surface of the lens, mainly from UV light.
Traditional blue blockers give you pretty sunsets, but that's not what you want. You don't want color distortion.

"Her blindness was caused by Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a rare, life-threatening
condition that causes outer layers of skin to separate from inner layers. 
In Thornton's case, it left her corneas terribly scarred. She was blind (from a dirty lens/cornea!)...
What he (the MD) planned to do was something dreamed up by Italian doctors in the 1960s, pull out 1 of her teeth & transplant it into 1 of her eyes to help repair the damaged cornea... A hole is cut in the damaged cornea. 
A clear acrylic tube is custom-made to allow light in, kind of like cutting a hole in the wall & sticking a telescope through.  But without something to hold the tube in place, the system fails. That's where the tooth comes in. 
Tooth bone & ligament have a better chance of living around the eye than a lot of other materials. 
So Perez removed Thornton's canine tooth, which is also called, no kidding, the eye-tooth. 
They sliced the root into a tiny plank & stuck the tube through the plank, then rested the plank/tube combination over the hole in her cornea."  Hooray.  It worked.

A cataract is not a growth. The lens in the eye where the cataract is formed is shaped like a magnifying lens.
It is thick in the middle & thin on the edges. It is composed of layer after layer of skin, similar to an onion.
What happens is these layers start drying out in different areas.  This causes a spot.
When the light comes through, when we look into the eye, we see a black spot in there.
It is not a growth...not cancerous.  It is just a change or drying out of the tissue.
Pray: 'Tissue be restored to normal...Blood supply to the eye be replenished.'
Glaucoma is an increase of pressure in the eye.
The fluids in the eye are constantly being replaced & drained out.
The canals are slim around the outer area of the iris where the fluids drain out of the eye.

 1 of my favorite stories illustrates how God changed my heart. On Monday mornings when I'm at home, which has been 2/3 of my life and now it's moving to a half because of Israel. Monday is a very special day.
I used to not like Mondays because we'd have staff meetings where people would complain.
Now we have testimony meetings and everything changes. But I had about 12 children sleep over at the house & I'm getting up really early to make them breakfast, & then have devotions.
Then we have 2 services Monday morning, with thousands of children.
Now I get to do what I love doing most, go house to house, just holding the poor, loving on the people. 
I got to dedicate a house to my friend Tina , a little old mother who was living under a tree.
She was really happy. I led a few people to the Lord next to a latrine.  
I was walking down to my truck to get to a discipleship meeting.
That sounds important. Some of the leaders are leading over 2000 congregations.
I think that's my important meeting, my assignment.
I walk past this hut. I see a woman lying there, leaning against the hut in the sun.
Now in my country, Mozambique, you don't do that.  It's super-hot. Nobody needs melatonin out there.
They're just not supposed to be in the sun, so I knew something was wrong.
I'm going to tell you my failure, again, before I tell you what He did.
My failure was that I looked at my watch and told  the Living God Who told me to stop, Who spoke to my heart, to stop.  Instead of just being immediately obedient, I looked at my watch. 
Then I heard the Lord say again, "I told you to stop."  I felt so convicted.
I felt broken by just my lack of sensitivity to Holy Spirit.   I just put my hand (with the watch) behind my back.  
I went up to the lady just sitting there with white eyes, took a hold of her hands. 
I asked her a question in the local dialect, "What is your name?" She said, "I have no name. I'm blind.
I have no name."
I asked her in another language that's also spoken there, "What's your name?" Another lady said, "She has NO name, she's blind." Before the Lord asked me to lead her into salvation, He said, "Give her a name."
"Utaleah," I said, "Your name is Utaleah, you exist with joy."  I gave her a name. 
She started laughing, her little teeth dangling. She only had about 3 teeth left. She's laughing.
I said to the woman down there.  Nobody talked to this lady. She was so isolated. I said, "Call her by name."
She said, "Utaleah."  This other lady burst out laughing & said, She’s blind, but she's full of joy.
I’m just holding her in my arms.  Jesus the One Who is worthy, just stopped there. He's in us.
He lives inside of us.  It's only Him the healer. He's the healer.
Jesus who is Lord took that lady's white eyes & in front of me turned them brown.
He did. He did.

I'll share this story. There was a man there about 70 years old in this campaign.

1 eye was completely taken out. The eyeball was gone & was sewn shut. The other 1 was leaking.
It was completely blind. It was leaking lesions & things. He was scheduled to have that one taken out.
When the Glory of God, the power of God fell in that meeting, he received healing. He received his sight back.
Even when the eye was gone, he could see through the eyelid that was sewn shut. Awesome, God.

I said “Folks let’s don’t quit on this. Jesus prayed twice 1 time. He was the son of God.” We prayed the 2nd time, had him to close his good eye & look up.
He couldn’t see again.  He said “I don’t see a thing.” The 3rd time we prayed. I rebuked the blind spirit.
I saw with my own eyes; God let me see this white thick massive cataract & something like a surgical knife cut it next to his nose & just like fingers was rolling a cigarette paper up. That cataract started rolling across his eyeball. 
When it got to the pupil of his eye he looked up & started yelling “I see that light, I see that light.”
He reached out & touched my nose, told me the color of my eyes. He verified that healing. 
People looked at him; I looked at him.  Instead of white the eye was the same identical color as his good eye.
I want you to know that there was a move of God. People started laughing, shouting, jumping, screaming & praising God. Some of them hit the alley & running up the street.  It was an amazing thing to me what God had done. But I just had that faith, again that transfer the anointing of God from Rufus Dumford my Uncle the Holy Ghost filled man.  See, that’s what he would have done had he been there.
I just feel that boldness I want to pray for this man for this blind eye. God did this outstanding miracle for him.

We walked by them. I went back to the stage & said, okay, 1, 2, 3, open your eyes.  I looked.  Nothing happened. Translator, count 1, 2, 3.  They don't understand me.  We counted to 1, 2, 3, 24 eyes opened instantly.

One person that didn't get their sight was an evangelist.  She preached the Gospel.
All my ministers jumped off the stage.  They're like a football trying to recover a fumble.
I'm like, no, no, every-body back up. Back up.  We got to talk to her. We got to see what's her problem.
There's a problem in her thinking. A lot of times our faith in miracles don't happen because there's a problem in our thinking. So I talked to her.  She thought that God gave this to her as a gift.
I'm like, God doesn't give anyone a gift wrapped up that says disease, sickness, death.
This is not God's will for you. I explained to her that in the Exodus the Bible says if we follow him that he will remove these diseases from us because he's the God that healeth thee.  No, she did not receive it
