Henry Wright has an audio tape/CD called Separation. One may also want to listen to the archived January 2004 radio interview between Wright and Sid Roth www.sidroth.org to help explain: that a lot of our thoughts are not ours, nor necessarily God's, nor even voices of our parents that sometimes run through our minds like tape recorders, records, etc. We often entertain unwanted thoughts because we assume that they are ours. Once we recognize that a lot of thoughts in our minds are NOT ours, then we can give ourselves permission to reject these thoughts and refuse to dwell on them. Now this takes a lot of insight, practice, self discipline and time, but the rewards are wonderful. It takes time to develop the wisdom, skills and muscle to reject unwanted thoughts. We can not go it alone. It takes Father God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ the Son. It takes a buddy system and better still, a family and a village. God works in the flesh of humans, so a pastor or individual with a big heart can be our helpmate. Even Moses needed Aaron to do God's work. God understands. Henry Wright contends that the 1st day that we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and forgiver of sins is the first day that we need to learn to defend ourselves from Satan. Jesus was tempted of Satan 40 days in the desert, right after He was baptized. We need to be aware that Satan plays back our past in our minds. He keeps a record of wrongs that we have done. Our self accusations (negative self-talk) are often really Satan's accusations. In addition, Satan gives us flashbacks, terrorist voices in our heads, visions in our minds, or nightmares, especially of the past offenses that others have committed against us or may do in the near future. Satan plays games with our heads. One reason is because we do not tune him out, turn him off, or change the subject. Scripture says to test the spirits. That includes testing our thoughts. The enemy tries to separate us from God and others by giving us derogatory thoughts. It our job to recognize the enemy, and then to practice ignoring or rejecting him. This is what eventually happened in the life of Nobel laureate John Nash portrayed in A Beautiful Mind, book by Sylvia Nasar and movie. He still hears voices, but he knows not to heed them. The key issue is insight. It takes a lot of time and God's mercy to recognize the voice of the enemy. One key is this. The heart of God is always to bless. The heart of Satan is to curse. If we are at peace, it is a clue that the thought is of heaven. If we are terrorized, it is a clue that the thought is of hell. Satan lied to Eve and tricked her into eating God's forbidden fruit, which poisoned both her spirit and body. If we too fail to recognize and resist Satin's lies, then we will be harmed. Nursing old hurts, victimization, and wounds will poison our mind and body.

The voices (thoughts in our mind, head, heart) or emotions often are from the enemy Satan, who wishes to destroy us and our family. If they are from the enemy, then both the enemy and the thoughts need to be bound, sent away and forbidden to return (IN THE NAME OF JESUS).
Joyce Meyer www.joycemeyer.org warns us to do this immediately, intrusion by intrusion and day by day. Joyce tells us to be in agreement with the word of God and out of agreement with all thoughts that disagree with scripture. She reminds us that Hebrews chapter 10 states that if we have repented of any trespass, then Jesus has forgiven. We do not need to continue to wash our hands continually of sin in an obsessive compulsive way that Satin would want us to do. Instead we can fight back. attack by attack, day by day. We can say out loud in the privacy of the bathroom, "Devil, get lost. Jesus died for my sins. I am not guilty. I asked for forgiveness. My past is under the blood of Jesus. I shake off your condemnation. I refuse your condemnation. I am no longer guilty. I am no longer ashamed. The blood of Jesus cleanses my conscience. I shake off your negative FEELINGS. I do not need to FEEL condemned. IN THE NAME OF JESUS, I pray and will continue to pray each time your negative voice comes to accuse me, for I recognize you. You are not the voice of God. You are a lie. God says I am forgiven. God says I am loved by Him and precious to Him." Thoughts/voices of the enemy will be loud, interfering and consistent until we turn them down. The thoughts/voices will lessen in intensity and frequency as we recognize that we are tuned into the wrong station and tune them out by aggressively repeating out loud scripture that contradicts the lies, always relying on Jesus and His truth and NOT our feelings. Satan our enemy repeats, like a broken record condemnations, to attempt to make us feel guilty. Once we recognize what his game plan is, then we do not so readily fall into his trap.

Thoughts or voices in our mind are like radio/TV waves which we can tune in or tune out/turn off, because we always have choice/a free will. Negative, oppressing, distressing thoughts we can recognize, refuse, reject, resist in the name of Jesus Christ. Additionally, we can deliberately replace them with positive thoughts, music, scripture, words. We can reprogram our own minds. The Holy Spirit will help when we ask Him!

Doug Jones www.dougjonesministreis.org reminds us that we must not depend on our changing emotions, but must always depend only on the word of God. If our feelings or thoughts disagree with the word of God, then we can know right away that we need to quote scripture to our self and to the enemy and regain our peace. In the book Mastering the Silence, Strategies for winning the battles of the mind Doug notes that of all his inner voices, none have have voices that sound different than that which speaks silently to his mind. All his inner voices whether from God, self, or Satan have had the same sound, silence. If or when voices all sound alike in the head, then we need to recognize the source of each thought, idea and suggestion. We also need to consider in advance the consequence of obeying each thought, idea or suggestion. We need to identify any thought, idea or suggestion that is not in accordance with scripture, and then reject it. Then we need to change the subject. If the voice persists in our head, then we need to quote scripture refuting that thought, idea or suggestion. The same approach would apply to any negative or harmful emotion, such as fear, insecurity, anxiety, depression, shame, etc. Obviously, we need to repent if sin is the cause of any problem. Then we can safely and successfully wage war against any enemy that is trying to destroy our mental health.

Kathryn Kuhlman reminds us that if we call the Holy Spirit "It", we do NOT know Him, for He is the 3rd Person of the Trinity. Likewise, if we consider evil negative thoughts to be an "it" or "them", then likewise we may fail to recognize that we are dealing with a personality with mind and emotions, separate from ourselves. Neither are evil spirits media floating on the airwaves, radio waves, TV waves, etc. They are persons in their own right, who attempt to disguise themselves as "our own personality". They will lie, deceive, trick or do anything to accomplish their own treachery. They are not nice "things" with bad characteristics, subject to redemption. They tortured/crucified Christ with malice, and in every generation will try to do the same to (exterminate/harm/mess with) those who align themselves with Christ.
In war, it is important to know who your real enemy is. Exorcism will do the job, when most clergy and most doctors fail to cure the patient. Marilyn Hickey www.mhmin.org in a 9/10/2006 TV USA east coast broadcast shares the testimony of a man harassed many many years by badgering voices compelling/demanding him to do evil. Driving in his car, another voice commanded him to stop. He obeyed and went into an unmarked building and sat in the rear of the audience. A layperson was asking those who had hearing problems to come up front for prayer, or something of that sort. Anyway, he came up for prayer. This is his testimony. He had heard voices for many years and now the voices were gone. His hearing problem was not with his ears, but rather with his brain. His problems/ voices were real, but not discernable/audible to the medical community. That is because spirits speak to spirits. The Holy Spirit speaks to the human spirit, as does an evil spirit speak to the human spirit. Rarely does God speak in an audible/physical voice. Regardless, God did intervene in this man's life. Thank You, Father God, in the name of Your son Jesus Christ.

Reinhard Bonnke in hiss book Evangelism by Fire www.cfan.org reminds Christians that we do not learn God's lessons with the head only, that our IQ has nothing to do with our spirituality. We are a trinity: mind, body plus spirit. We experience life through our 5 senses (body), our thinking (mind or soul) and our spirit. It is our spirit which never dies, has eternal life, and goes to God when the body dies. It is God's Holy Spirit which joins with our spirit, in the same way that a sperm unites with an egg. A new birth is created. The seen birth is physical. The invisible birth is spiritual. When the spiritual union between God and man occurs inside each physical life, then we become alive to God. We wake up to His existence. We can now begin to tune our radio or TV station of our lives to His station. Our spiritual clock has begun to tick. We are now tuned in to God's wave length. Now at long last we can begin to recognize His voice as He says, "I love you. My voice will now begin to lead you into freedom, away from the enemy's voice or the voice in your head that gets you into trouble." God's spirit joining our human spirit is the key to eternal life, but the master key is the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

God is talking to us all the time, but most of us are tuned into the "wrong radio/TV" station; we are on the wrong wave length. Satan is talking to us all the time, too. Often Satan presents his ideas to us in a manner that we think his thoughts are our own. Satan is the master of deception.

We need to RECOGNIZE not only our own voice, but also God's voice, and Satan's voice. That is, we need to recognize that every thought needs to be analyzed or filtered through the word of God. Scripture says to capture each thought, vision, dream, apparition, voice. We capture, analyze, and reject anything contrary to scripture and God's loving, merciful, sweet, tender character. Terrors are worst at night when our mind is more available to the spirit world. When we go to bed we can cover ourselves with a blanket of Christ's blood. It is invisible to us but not to the spirit world. We can put a spiritual hedge around our property. We can ask God to put angels on guard in our bedroom. If there is a biochemical medical reason for our perceptions that are not contributing to our wellbeing, then we need to ask God to fix that.

We can say, "In the name of Jesus, I bind all causes of this disorder and place them under the feet of Jesus. In the name of Jesus, I release healing into my brain. In the name of Jesus, I command a creative miracle to occur in my brain, for any medical situation that requires a new or replacement part. Lord God, I thank You. I expect Your healing, if not speedily, then ever so progressively, till at last I am perfect. Most of all Lord, teach me to appreciate and love You more and more each day. Amen."

Tuning in to God's channel/radio station/TV station is not an on/off toggle button, a yes/no. It is a lifestyle, a building up day by day spiritual muscle. Being able to lift 5 pounds, then 10 pounds, then 15 pounds. It is consistency. As His employee God has trained and tested us. He knows our strengths and weaknesses. Where we need mentoring/tutoring. Where we need exercise for flabby muscles or weak backs. Where we need obedience. Where we need personal deliverance. Where we need generational deliverance. If we were like Job in the middle of the ocean, it would not do much good for God to save us if we do not know how to swim. We need to learn to swim and then maybe we will be ready for God to rescue us from our ocean of troubles that attempt to drown us. A life jacket and maybe a raft or boat would also help! Father God, make us ready for Your rescue. Provide all the life support that we need. Thanks Papa. In Jesus name. Amen.

Because Satan is the inventor of lies, we need to RECOGNIZE some of his lies.
A woman out of wedlock is listening to a lie when she thinks, "It is too late, because I am pregnant."
A prisoner is listening to a lie when he thinks, "It is too late."
An elderly person is listening to a lie when he thinks, "It is too late, to do anything with my life for God."
A mentally ill person is listening to a lie when he thinks, "I blew it. I am too old. I am too ill. I will always be sick. I will never be normal. It is too late."
A depressed person is listening to a lie when he thinks, "I wish I had never been born. It was a mistake for me to have been born. I am a failure. I am a mistake. I want to die."
Notice that alot of lies from the enemy, begin with "I". We mistake such thoughts to be our own.
The biggest mistake is to accept them and not reject them. Now is the beginning of our wellness!
All thoughts which contradict the intentions of God for your life is a lie. God is the potter. We are the clay. The clay does not contradict the potter, but he should contradict Satan's intentions for us.
Satan wants us to throw away our lives by living in the past or quitting and giving up. God made us. He has plans for us. Life is a court room. As long as we believe the damming evidence, we will be a victim. When we go to confession, God forgives us. It is Satin who condemns falsely, because our forgiven sins are forgotten by God. Our forgiven sins are covered over with the blood of Jesus. If we accuse ourselves, then we are a liar, agreeing with Satan. We must repent of this unbelief. Either Jesus died for our sins, or He did not. When we believe what God says in scripture, then we will begin to become victors. The spiritual battles are in the mind where the evil spirit wars with the Holy Spirit. Resist the devil and he will flee.

June Newman Davis in Scripture Keys for Kingdom Living notes that when an evil spirit speaks we have
1.    doubt, fear, discomfort
2.    conflict, lack of peace, restlessness, secrecy
3.    questions, uncertainty
4.    contradiction/invalidation of God's/Jesus' words in scripture
5.    denial of Jesus Christ's deity
6.    condemnation, guilt, discouragement
7.    continual reminder of past sins already forgiven/forgotten by God
8.    apparitions/dreams/visions/out-of-body-experiences that are disturbing/harmful/stressful
June Newman Davis also notes that when our own human nature speaks we have
1.    intellectual hesitation
2.    deception due to not knowing the heart of God/Jesus (not having read/understood scripture)
3.    double-mindedness (wanting to do 2 opposite things)
4.    deception due to desire (for alcohol, drugs, immoral sex, emotional turmoil such as anger, etc)

Often the enemy has created a chemical disorder in the brain through an inherited genetic occurrence. Regardless of the curse being the fault of an ancestor or our own sin, we need to do what some call a family tree. Write down all our ancestors' diseases and sins, plus our own. Take that list to the altar or to communion. Ask God to both forgive us and our ancestors, having first forgiven ALL others who have wounded or trespassed against us. What that means is that those who have injured us do not need to say, "I am sorry." God has to deal with them, not us. However, we do not give a violator permission to continue to abuse us. We always need to protect ourselves and our family from abuse, when we can. We place the sins and diseases under the blood of Christ. Those sins and diseases erased our sins and diseases 2000 years ago, but we did not avail ourselves of this forgiveness and healing until now. Now is the day of victory. Now is the day of wellness.   Now is the day to lay claim to what Christ did for us on the cross and in the resurrection. Satan will continue to tell us lies, but do not listen to Him. We will get better and better and better each moment, each hour, each day as we lay claim to what Christ did for us. Do not faint. Satin has to be convinced that what we say we mean, for he does not want to let go his foothold in our lives. How many generations has this paranoia been in our family? Of course, it may take a few battles and time to reverse the curse.

Sometimes the things we believe are dead wrong, even though our intentions are wonderful For instance an amateur but dedicated vegetarian may be missing his/her B vitamins and come down with a disease related to that deficiency. A person may be hallucinating, but think he is not. A person may believe either (1) He is Christ or (2) another prophet is Christ or (3) that Christ is yet, if ever/never, to come. If that person dies and encounters Christ on his way to hell, it may be too late to change one's mind. If a person does not believe in hell, but after death lands there, ouch! You see, there are 3 realities - soul/mental/intellectual, bodily, and spiritual. Each is real, even if one does not believe.

Be sure you have asked Jesus to be your savior. That gives Him a foothold into your DNA. Be sure you have asked God to baptize you in His Holy Spirit. That gives Him the ability to build spiritual muscle in your life to resist the enemy.

The evil spirit, the devil, sneaks in the back door and contradicts whatever scripture says. Not only that, he does it by deceit, giving us thoughts which are his and tricking us into thinking they are ours. When we hear in our head thoughts that disagree with scripture, we must respond immediately with scripture. For example. When Satin says in our mind, He's not so bad", meaning the devil, or "I am not saved. I am not good enough. I am not worthy." We are to immediately think back or say aloud the words of

God's scripture:

"None of his sins that he committed shall be mentioned to Him." Ezekiel 33:16
"He will subdue our iniquities. Thou will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea." Mica 7:19
"Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses." Matthew 8:17
"There is no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1
"If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed." John 8:36
"Their sins and iniquities will I remember no more." Hebrews 10:17
"The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds, casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. 2nd Corinthians 10:4-5

ALWAYS remember, regardless of the revelation by any spirit, if the information disagrees with scripture or with the heart of God, then IMMEDIATELY reject it and do NOT follow its instructions. One test used by Smith Wigglesworth is to ask the spirit if Jesus came in the flesh. If the answer is no, then it is the wrong spirit. Scripture says that God is making the end times short, lest the elite of God be deceived. We see this deception already. People are relying on experience only, rather than testing thoughts, dreams, visions and even healings. Moses' contemporaries could do the same magic that he did. Pastors and others who have healing powers, are not always of God. Be forewarned. Neither be so mesmerized with other's powers and insights that you feel jealous, inadequate and inferior. There is much danger here for those who are desperate enough to try anything.

Often people accept things based on preexisting belief systems. A typical example is a Catholic believing in any apparition, regardless of source. Regardless of perception or belief, we need to daily, weekly, continually, test EVERY revelation against scripture. The problem increases if all those around us - agree, interpret a prophecy as from God, hail a fellow saint as perfect, whatever - without allowing - for common sense, spiritual insight, the Holy Spirit to warn us, or spiritual muscle (perhaps out of fear), and allowing another to control us like a dictator, husband, cult leader, pastor, parent, or boss. It is imperative to read or listen to scripture ALOT, so that when danger comes sneaking in the back door, we will recognize it. Remember Eve, and even Adam, did NOT recognize danger, and they were perfect at that time. Pray for daily protection, as shown to us by Jesus in the Lord's prayer, "Deliver us from evil."

Vita Adae et Evae or The Slavonic Adam and Eve 39:1 Said Seth to the beast (devil), "God the Lord revile you. Be silent, be dumb, shut your mouth, accursed enemy of Truth, confounder and destroyer."

The Apocalypse of Moses 16:1-5 The devil spoke to the serpent saying, "Rise up, come to me and I will tell you a word whereby you may have profit." He arose and came to him. The devil said to him, "I hear you are wiser than all beasts and I have come to counsel you. Why do you eat of Adam's tares and not of paradise? ISAIAH 5:13    My people will go into exile (be captured by the enemy) for lack of understanding (of scripture that tells us Jesus immediately erases our sins, once we ask Him for forgiveness). (Spiritual insight = We do not need to keep going over and over in our minds our failures/shortcomings. We do not need to keep beating up ourselves. In the football game of life we can take the offensive instead of the defensive approach.)

LUKE 8:26-33 KJV    They arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. When He went to land, there met Him out of the city a certain man, who had devils a long time, wore no clothes, and lived in no house (but in tombs). When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him with a loud voice, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, You son of God most high? I beseech You, do not torment me." [He (Jesus) had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man.] Often times it had caught him. He was kept bound with chains and in fetters. He broke the bands and was driven of the devil into the wilderness. Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" He said, "Legion," because many devils were entered into him. It is really NOT important that we understand evil, for God's Holy Spirit will instruct us. Additionally, spiritual things are not understood with the mind, but rather with the spirit. Thirdly, demonic books and objects can contaminate/contain demons/evil and need to be destroyed by such as fire.
Robin's nightmares began at the age of 5. Her dreams were vividly real. Sometimes during the day she "saw things, creatures, that nobody else seemed to see." Often she could hear others' thoughts. She "felt things that on one else seemed to perceive." Sometimes she "would walk into a room and see a vision of something that took place there years before." Robin heard "voices nearly all the time...but (initially)...she thought it was...her own mind speaking to" her. Later she would have numerous apparitions of aliens, celestial spirits, and especially of her invisible spirit guide who dubbed itself Marilyn Monroe. At the beginning of her college years she had difficulty concentrating. "The truth was, my mind felt too open. I could hear the spirit more than my own thoughts, even though I tried to shut him out....I struggled to get my own thoughts back, but they were always overpowered. My schoolwork had suffered."
Beginning at about age 6 Robin was continuously raped for 6 years, initiating a safe place in her mind. Inside this black box she started hearing voices. Then her spirit would rise above her bed and go into space and into special places. "A gold, shimmery thread connected" her to her body. She was told never to let go of the chord, her connection to her body that allowed her spirit to return.
Later her invisible spiritual mentors tried to kill her and subsequently she became aware that they were demonic creatures using her for their own evil purposes. However, precious Jesus Christ rescued, healed, and delivered her. One thing He taught her is that most (spiritual/mental/physical) pain is caused by a spirit of pain, which needs to be bound and placed under the feet of Jesus our Messiah. This spirit of pain is the root cause of many diseases.

Kraft reminds those who are mentally ill that they are NOT insane or incurable, but are likely oppressed by demons, as are many, including Christians and even pastors. Kraft cites the "worm theology" where man sees himself negatively as a worm; Satan puts thoughts into our minds which we choose to accept as our own.
Demons prefer to torment/harass/destroy born-again Christians (rather than non-Christians) to get them to question whether they are saved, sane, lovable, usable, and/or curable. An oppressing demon when confronted may share that he could not get a stronger grip on a person who "is too close to Jesus/God" or that he is "in a mind but not within" a person/body. If we are feeling oppressed, we can say aloud or under our breath, "If this is the enemy, stop it, in the name of Jesus!"
During ministry, when a demon or demons respond to a command, sometimes they use a person's voice, but if they are weak they will give the person impressions/thoughts. At such time the person may be confused as to which words are his own and which are of the demon(s). The ministry team will help sort that out. The simplest way to sort through this, if you are alone, is to test the words/thoughts against scripture. If the words/thoughts agree with scripture, they are likely of you or God. When they disagree with scripture then they are apt to be emotional garbage (that needs to be taken to Jesus) or the demon(s) (that feed on that garbage). Since this is a spiritual discussion/response of the demon, it can bypass the mind, and not come to the person's attention until he has heard it with his own ears.
If you feel oppressed by voices, night terrors, or anything that interferes with working, sleeping, having relationships with others, etc, then do anything that will bother the enemy of your being at peace. Try in the name of Jesus, anointing with oil, drinking holy water, making the sign of the cross, speaking light into dark places, use blessed salt, eat a few grains of blessed salt, threaten to send the voices into the abyss, cover yourself with the blood of Christ, say the Lord's prayer, say psalm 91, renounce and reverse any curse that might now be in effect, sing/play hymns, or pray in tongues.

God's Holy Spirit spoke to Branham many times, initially to young Branham as wind in a tree, somewhat like when God spoke to Moses from the burning bush. Remember, God also spoke to Samuel as a child, too, when he was alone in bed.
God's angels spoke often to Branham. One of the 1st things told to him is that our thoughts speak louder in heaven than do our words on earth. What the angel meant is that the words of our heart, our true attitudes, are what count to God. The angel did NOT mean those inner negative voices from the enemy that torment us. (Thus we must real out loud our Bible DAILY, so our physical and spiritual ears will hear what our eyes see and our mouth speaks. As we marinate our heart with God's Word, we take on His nature, more and more each time we soak in His Word, the way a sponge would soak up moisture. Any thought which contradicts Scripture should be rejected AND replaced with God's thoughts. Buy and use a concordance, so you can look up and memorize the opposite of any lie the enemy tries to put on you. Chapter 15 The Double Minded Man shares that Satan tricks us by injecting thoughts into our minds beginning with the word "I". For instance, if on Monday we accept Jesus as our savior/healer/baptizer, but on Thursday we ask again to be saved/healed/baptized, we may have been listening to/believing Satan's lies and not standing on/quoting out loud the facts of scripture that Jesus died "once" to save us; thus, we are saved the moment we ask.
Chapter 17 Deliverance shares that it is best if we deliver ourselves from voices/visions/demons, rather relying on others. Then we will have the confidence and wisdom of how to ward them off when they attempt to renter. One of the tools to success is to read scripture aloud, especially Revelations 18-22.
If we encounter mind, body, or voice problems we are to immediately rebuke the voices/visions/apparitions/demons and command them to leave at once, in the name of Jesus. Passivity is dangerous! We are always to test the voices/visions/apparitions/demons by asking, "Did Jesus Christ come in the flesh?" Any reply other than, "Yes", means the problem is from hell. Having done that, we are not to carry on a conversation with any evil spirit/extraterrestrial/apparition/deceased soul, because talking opens up a door for trouble/terror/demonization/nightmares.

Kill the ANTs (Automatic Negative Thoughts) That Invade Your Brain (secular resource)
"The thoughts that go through your mind, moment by moment, have a significant impact on how your brain works. Research by Mark George, MD and colleagues at the National Institutes of Health demonstrated that happy, hopeful thoughts had an overall calming effect on the brain, while negative thoughts inflamed brain areas often involved with depression and anxiety. Your thoughts matter.
I often teach my patients how to metaphorically kill the ANTs that invade their minds. ANTs stand for Automatic Negative Thoughts. The ANTs are automatic. They just happen. But they can ruin your whole day, maybe even your life. For example, I once treated a college student who was ready to drop out of school. He thought he was stupid because didn't do well on tests. When his IQ (intelligence level) was tested, however, we discovered that he had an IQ of 135 (in the superior range). He just wasn't a good test taker. I have identified 9 different kinds of ANT species, or ways your thoughts can distort incoming information to make you feel bad. Here are 4 ANT species:
Mind reading - predicting you know that another person is thinking something negative about you without them telling you. I often tell my patients that, 'A negative look from someone else may mean nothing more than he or she is constipated. You don't know. You can't read minds. I have 25 years of training in human behavior and I still can't read anyone's mind.'
Fortune telling - predicting a bad outcome to a situation before it has occurred. Your mind makes happen what it sees. Unconsciously, predicting failure will often cause failure. For example, if you say, 'I know I will fail the test,' then you will likely not study hard enough and fail the test.
Always or never thinking - this is where you think in words like always, never, every time, or everyone. These thoughts are overgeneralizations which can alter behavior. For example, I have a friend who asked out an attractive woman. She turned him down. He told himself that no one will ever go out with him again. This ANT prevented him from asking out anyone else for over 9 months.
Guilt beatings - being overrun by thoughts of 'I should have done... I'm bad because…. I must do better at… I have to'). Guilt is powerful at making us feel bad. It is a lousy motivator of behavior.
You do not have to believe every thought that goes through your head. It's important to think about your thoughts to see if they help you or they hurt you. Unfortunately, if you never challenge your thoughts you just 'believe them' as if they were true. ANTs can take over and infest your brain. Develop an internal ant-eater to hunt down and devour the negative thoughts that are ruining your life.
Once you learn about your thoughts, you can chose to think good thoughts and feel good or you can choose to think bad thoughts and feel lousy. You can train your thoughts to be positive and hopeful or you can just allow them to be negative and upset you. That's right, it's up to you! You can learn how to change your thoughts and optimize your brain. One way to learn how to change your thoughts is to notice them when they are negative and talk back to them. If you can correct negative thoughts, you take away their power over you. When you think a negative thought without challenging it, your mind believes it and your brain reacts to it...

Any part of the mind which is not renewed (by continual/constant/daily/frequent exposure to God's thoughts in Scripture) will become fertile ground for Satan to plant his satanic thoughts. Those areas are the battleground for Satan. He will fight you there. And you don’t stand a chance against him, until you renew that part of your mind.
You will not be prepared to battle Satan with a mind that is not renewed. The renewed mind has a "NO TRESSPASSING" sign for Satan. He can’t trespass on a renewed mind. What we know in our spirit can be quickly clouded by reasoning.

Since damaged minds don’t think right, they need to become familiar with and internalize God's thoughts.
II Corinthians 10:4-5 – Learn truth and bring every thought captive unto the obedience of Jesus Christ. Truth supersedes fact.
Any fact that contradicts what God thinks and says must be rejected/refused/repented of and traded for God's thoughts/love/reality found in scripture.
Ephesians 3:17-21 – Feeling unloved? Then, stop saying what you feel and begin to continually say what God says. Feel angry, bitter, resentful or unforgiving? One can never be emotionally healthy unless he forgives in the same exact manner that Jesus forgives us, unconditionally and fully.
Mark 11:24-26 – God says if we want our prayers answered, we must forgive.
Section Jesus Is Our Healer and Yet a Large Percentage of Christians Are Sick!
Isaiah 53:5 – Our being made whole includes physical healing. Psalm 103:1-3 – God both forgives sin and heals diseases.
Jesus made healing of our body, mind, and spirit available right NOW, not tomorrow, not when we die, not when the rapture comes.
One final thought. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit and what we eat we become. Much obesity and much disease (or the degree of the disease) is often our failure and unwillingness to heed dietary self discipline. Diabetes is one common example. Liver disease is another.
Likewise, lack of adequate regular exercise is another frequent cause of poor health, often self inflicted.

Wrong thoughts can sometimes come in the back door as feelings that are persistent, nagging, insistent, badgering, compelling, ominous, oppressive, repetitive, threatening, intimidating, obtrusive, urgent, sinister, demanding, impatient, angry, and unrelenting.

Other churches have infant baptism/christening. Even the Jewish model of the perfect Christian church did not have a baptism/initiation rite until the age of 12. Salvation typically begins when one chooses for himself Jesus as his Messiah. Most secular schools do not start full time until the age of 5/6 when the child can usually discern between truth and fantasy. We found only 1% of Hildegard's writings to be aligned with the Word of God (scripture) and the heart of God, let alone relevant/useful in this generation. When God speaks, His Word continues to be relevant in every generation. White lights do speak. However, one always needs to test any spirit, according to the requirements of scripture, to determine if their source is good or evil/dangerous/deceitful!

In addition to the above presented ideas, one method might be to ask Jesus to allow you to hear Him better- to request a spiritual hearing aid.
Louise did that once and got the answer when she did not want to listen. Instead, she began to argue back and rationalize with her brain/intellect. It is the Holy Spirit Who talks to the human spirit, and then downloads to the brain, so she understands. Louise was evaluating a great find of a lifetime, a professionally done set of books by Timelife on all aspects of parapsychology, UFO's, etc., at $2.00/book. She asked herself, "Should I buy this set?" Immediately, the first answer that came back to her was, "NO. Remember Ruth's classes? They (might) contain demons and you would (could) be bringing them home with you." (In retrospect, she did not remember if the demons were a fact or a hypothesis, due to the subsequent argument with herself. She argued this way and that way. She bought them and then returned them within the hour, after recognizing/remembering that. in fact, she had just asked God to help her hear Him better when He speaks to her.
It is "a more excellent way" for God to reveal many things to us by His Holy Spirit, than by worldly knowledge, etc. Certainly this set is a must have, intellectually, but for her it is forbidden, at least for now. Louise is a slow learner, like many of us. Thank God, He allowed her to return the books and to understand that He was attempting to answer her earnest prayer.)

So now back to where we started. One's 1st impression/thought/mental response to a question, for many, is God's voice! 2ndly, we are to respond immediately, not arguing, not hesitating.
However, to respond immediately could be DANGEROUS advise for those currently having psychiatric problems. Those coping with mental illness and discernment issues would be safer to check with a confidant BEFORE acting. Hopefully this friend/mentor is a pastor or someone who loves Jesus Christ.
It is especially dangerous to act on an idea, if the thought is negative/harmful/ hurtful to self or others. Blessings.

One way to recognize God's voice is to understand that when your heart leaps/dances for joy and your mind/head contradicts that desire/wish/prayer/motive/unction/love as wrong timing or inappropriate emotion, that in fact may be God's Spirit in you saying yes. If you do not immediately obey your heart, it may be too late for the Holy Spirit to work through you in that situation at a later date. Remember when Elizabeth and Mary met and their children leapt for joy within them and the Holy Spirit burst forth in praise and joy through their lips?

You see, God often hints/whispers softly to our heart (our spirit rather than to our mind). Our spirit is alive, but it needs, like a baby, to learn to recognize Who is Daddy and to recognize His voice. Seldom do we hear Him with our ears, for Father God is Spirit rather than human. Perhaps from time to time we might even hear and see Jesus (God's son) Who clothed Himself with flesh, or get a whiff of His fragrance as He draws near or passes by, or even perhaps feel His touch/caress/love.

If we can hear (perceive/recognize/comprehend/obey/reject) our own thoughts or the thoughts of our enemy Satan, then certainly we can hear God's thoughts. Perhaps until now we have never been taught to listen to (observe) any thought, nor to identify its source. Now is the time to begin. Blessings.

In chapter 6 Journaling - Recording What You Hear (from God), author insists that private daily/frequent spiritual journaling is a must, at least for most of us. Those who participate in court cases realize that memory is not fixed in stone and can change without our recognizing it. Those who are around the older citizens see this a lot, especially with the short term memory. God wrote the 10 commandments for Moses. Scribes wrote much of the Old Testament. From time to time both God and angels commanded their words to be written down. Exodus 34:27 The Lord said to Moses, "Write down these words, for in accordance with these Words, I have made a covenant with you and with Israel."
Many people awaking from spiritual dreams, immediately record them. This, too, is part of the journaling process.

For born again Spirit filled Christians the Counselor is living right inside of your inner man. To allow Him to counsel you, one needs to spend DAILY time with Him praying in tongues, for beginners. The more time, the better.
Not in minutes, but in hours. This is NEVER a waste of time. It is the best investment one will ever have with the most interest/returns/value. Key #4 - Journaling, the writing out of our prayers and God's answers, provides a great new freedom in hearing God's voice. God told Habakkuk to record the vision and inscribe it on tablets...(Hab. 2:2). It had never crossed my mind to write out my prayers and God's answers as Habakkuk did at God's command...
I called the process 'journaling,' and I began experimenting with it. I discovered it to be a fabulous facilitator to clearly discerning God's inner, spontaneous flow, because as I journaled I was able to write in faith for long periods of time, simply believing it was God. I did not have to test it as I was receiving it (which jams one's receiver), because I knew that when the flow was over I (and/or my spiritual covering) could go back and test and examine it carefully, making sure that it lined up with Scripture...
Put a smile on your face, sit back comfortably, get out your pen and paper, and turn your attention toward God in praise and worship, seeking His face. As you write out your question to God and become still, fixing your gaze on Jesus, Who is present with you, you will suddenly have a very good thought in response to your question. Don't doubt it, simply write it down. Later, as you read your journaling, you, too, will be blessed to discover that you are indeed dialoguing with God...
First read through at least the New Testament (preferably, the entire Bible). Nor should one attempt this unless he is submitted to solid, spiritual leadership. All major directional moves that come through journaling should be submitted before being acted upon." "The thoughts that go through your mind, moment by moment, have a significant impact on how your brain works. Research by Mark George, MD and colleagues at the National Institutes of Health demonstrated that happy, hopeful thoughts had an overall calming effect on the brain, while negative thoughts inflamed brain areas often involved with depression and anxiety. Your thoughts matter.
I often teach my patients how to metaphorically kill the ANTs that invade their minds. ANTs stand for Automatic Negative Thoughts. The ANTs are automatic. They just happen. But they can ruin your whole day, maybe even your life. For example, I once treated a college student who was ready to drop out of school. He thought he was stupid because didn't do well on tests. When his IQ (intelligence level) was tested, however, we discovered that he had an IQ of 135 (in the superior range). He just wasn't a good test taker. I have identified 9 different kinds of ANT species, or ways your thoughts can distort incoming information to make you feel bad. Here are 4 ANT species:
Mind reading - predicting you know that another person is thinking something negative about you without them telling you. I often tell my patients that, 'A negative look from someone else may mean nothing more than he or she is constipated. You don't know. You can't read minds. I have 25 years of training in human behavior and I still can't read anyone's mind.'
Fortune telling - predicting a bad outcome to a situation before it has occurred. Your mind makes happen what it sees. Unconsciously, predicting failure will often cause failure. For example, if you say, 'I know I will fail the test,' then you will likely not study hard enough and fail the test.
Always or never thinking - this is where you think in words like always, never, every time, or everyone. These thoughts are overgeneralizations which can alter behavior. For example, I have a friend who asked out an attractive woman. She turned him down. He told himself that no one will ever go out with him again. This ANT prevented him from asking out anyone else for over 9 months.
Guilt beatings - being overrun by thoughts of 'I should have done... I'm bad because…. I must do better at… I have to…)' Guilt is powerful at making us feel bad. It is a lousy motivator of behavior.
You do not have to believe every thought that goes through your head. It's important to think about your thoughts to see if they help you or they hurt you. Unfortunately, if you never challenge your thoughts you just 'believe them' as if they were true. ANTs can take over and infest your brain. Develop an internal anteater to hunt down and devour the negative thoughts that are ruining your life.
Once you learn about your thoughts, you can chose to think good thoughts and feel good or you can choose to think bad thoughts and feel lousy. You can train your thoughts to be positive and hopeful or you can just allow them to be negative and upset you. That's right, it's up to you! You can learn how to change your thoughts and optimize your brain. One way to learn how to change your thoughts is to notice them when they are negative and talk back to them. If you can correct negative thoughts, you take away their power over you. When you think a negative thought without challenging it, your mind believes it and your brain (mind/emotions/body) reacts to it."
[PS. If something negative is true, then repent immediately to Jesus and get on with life. If the negative thoughts continue, then they are lies, as one has repented (and discontinued doing the wrong thing) + God has forgiven. Sin is ANYTHING which we DO which contradicts the heart/instructions of God in Scripture. Sin in not so much wrong thinking as acting on stinking thinking. Negative thinking can trigger/turn on a shower of negative emotions which tempt/prod/encourage us to act inappropriately.
The mind/flesh is sort of like a balloon. We can fill it full of negativity (wrong thinking) or full of the Holy Spirit (Scripture/praise/ worship/thankfulness) and rise to new heights. (God can be our helium.)
Negative thoughts can trigger the release of hormones/chemicals that will affect mood &/or behavior negatively; likewise the body's release of certain hormones/chemicals can also adversely affect mood and negative thought. Mind, body, and spirit are intimately intertwined. The evil spirit, the Holy Spirit, and/or the human spirit can and will affect us. Therefore, scripture admonishes us to continually filter/test every spirit.
Finally, those of us prone to negativity, can rely on many resources, including vitamins and/or meds to offset the negative biochemical excess in our daily living, until such time that our healing has begun or our emotional malady has fled.
Some people are like saints, until they come face to face with the root of their problem. Then they flee, rather than face up to it, rather than confronting it, owning it, repenting of it in them and their ancestors, rejecting and turning from it, rather than maturing - growing up, rather than continuing on in life as an immature, emotional child or basket case.]
