"population crisis." According to writer George Grant, Malthus condemned
charities & other forms of benevolence, because he believed they only
exacerbated the
problems. His answer was to restrict population growth of
certain groups of people.
His theories of population growth & economic stability became the basis for
national & international social policy.
Grant quotes from Malthus’ magnum opus, An Essay on the
Principle of
Population, published in 6 editions from 1798-1826: 'All children
born, beyond what would be required to keep up the population to a desired
level, must necessarily perish, unless room is made for them by the deaths
of grown persons. We should facilitate, instead of foolishly & vainly endeavoring
to impede,
the operations of nature in producing this mortality'...
Sanger built the work of the ABCL, & ultimately, Planned Parenthood, on the
ideas & resources of the eugenics movement. Grant reported that
"virtually all of the
organization’s board members were eugenicists."
Eugenicists financed the early projects,
from the opening of birth control
clinics to the publishing of "revolutionary" literature.
Eugenicists comprised the speakers at conferences, authors of literature &
providers
of services "almost without the exception." Planned
Parenthood’s international work was originally housed in the offices of the
Eugenics Society. The 2 organizations were

The ABCL became a legal entity on 4/22/1922, in New York. Before that,

1983, he had recalled Gerardi from political exile in Costa Rica. As the
founding director of the Guatemalan Archdiocese’s Office of Human Rights
(Oficina de Derechos Humanos del Arzobispado de Guatemala), which was
usually referred to by its acronym, ODHA, pronounced OH-dah, Gerardi became
one of the Catholic Church’s most important & visible spokesmen & leaders.
The gathering in the garden on that last afternoon of Bishop Gerardi’s life
was a
celebration of the completion of Guatemala: Never Again,
a 4-volume, 1,400-page report on an unprecedented investigation into the
'disappearances,' massacres, murders, torture, & systematic violence that
had been inflicted on the population of Guatemala since the
beginning of the 1960s, decades during which right-wing military dictators & then
military-dominated civilian governments waged war against leftist guerrilla
groups.
An estimated 200,000 civilians were killed during the war, which
formally ended in
December 1996 with the signing of a peace agreement
monitored by the United Nations.
The Guatemalan Army had easily won the war on the battlefield, but making
peace with the guerrillas had become a political and economic necessity.
Still, the Army was able to dictate many of the terms of the agreement &
engineered for itself & for the
acquiescent guerrilla organizations a
sweeping amnesty from prosecution for war-related
crimes. This 'piñata of
self-forgiveness' was an ominous beginning for an era supposedly
based on
such democratic values as the rule of law and access to justice, as well as
demilitarization.
The peace agreement provided for a truth commission sponsored by the UN, the
Historical
Clarification Commission, which was intended to establish the
history of the crimes of
the
previous years. But many human rights
activists, including Bishop Gerardi, who had
participated in the peace
negotiations, doubted that the UN commission would be able to
provide a
thorough accounting of events. The commission was not permitted to identify
human-rights violators by name or assign responsibility for killings.
Testimony given to the
commission could not be used for future prosecutions.
As a counter-weight, under Gerardi’s
guidance, ODHA initiated a parallel and
supportive investigation, the Recovery
of Historical
Memory Project (Recuperación
de la Memoria Histórica) known as REMHI (REM-hee),
which produced
Guatemala: Never Again...
Over a 2-year period, he said, some 800 people had undergone (ODHA)
intensive training for interviewing & collecting testimony for the
investigation. Operating from 13 regional centers, the 'reconciliation
facilitators' had spanned out across the country. Guatemala’s population is
at least 60% Mayan Indian, & the Maya, the rural peasantry especially,
had
borne the brunt of the war’s carnage. Well over half of the interviews for

to exclude blacks from classrooms, workplaces, housing &
other accommodations, it was the established order of the
land. In any part of the country, you could look a black
person straight in the face and say, 'We don't
accept/hire/rent to Negroes.' No apology necessary. In fact,
you might have been moved
to express your amazement &
annoyance that the Negro had had the temerity to ask.
Astonishingly, the Army recruiter told my dad about an
experimental Army officer training program for Negroes down
in Tuskegee, Alabama, USA.
My father applied, aced the entrance exam and within a few months began his journey
into the Army Air Corps.
The journey began on a train out of
Chicago with several other recruits bound for Tuskegee.
As the train crossed into Tennessee, my dad & other
recruits were escorted to the 'colored' car at the back of
the train. When they disembarked at Tuskegee, they were met
by a sheriff's deputy, who, before these Northern colored
boys might take so much as a single step onto Alabama's red
clay soil, read them the Alabama rape statute. A lot has

organs of the victims. The organs, mainly kidneys, are sold in many places,
including in New Jersey for $400,000. In 2011, some people pleaded guilty in
Trenton, New Jersey; they were accused of organ
trafficking to the US. The international audience was exposed to the human organ trafficking on

the Swedish Journalist Donald Bostrom,
reported on the Swedish ‘Aftonbladet’ a story
under the
title “Our sons plundered for their organ”.
It was around the same time that many people
became alerted of the
situation. Since then, the news has gotten more gruesome by the
day.
. For Eritrea,
there is a lost generation. Those being victimized by the Eritrean
regime & then by the human traffickers are mainly young men;
losing them would have negative
consequences in the future of the country,

The modern flagging
system, which allows ships to buy the right to fly the flag of a
country as
long as it promises to follow its laws, provides good cover for the
unscrupulous.
Usually, a ship may be stopped on the high seas only by a law enforcement or
military
vessel flying the same flag. The world’s navies, though, have been

A ship’s cargo is often better protected than its crew. The industry only

Few crimes are tougher to investigate than those that occur at sea. There
are no cameras
on the corner, no phones to tap, usually no weapons to

Ships have several options for handling the large amount of oily wastewater
& fuel sludge that their engines produce during voyages. They can
incinerate it on board, pay to unload it at a waste depot or, cheapest of
all, use a “magic pipe,” a jury-rigged hose that illegally pumps the waste
directly overboard or underwater… Most of these citations did not result in
fines, most likely because few countries beyond the United States &
Britain consistently prosecute such violations...
The rules on land, though, often conflict with the realities at sea.
Captains are prohibited
from jettisoning stowaways, but they are blocked or
fined if they bring them to shore.
Nations have generally shifted the
responsibility of handling stowaways onto the shipping industry, putting
pressure on ship owners, captains & crew...the costs of repatriation.
These expenses can run to $50,000 per stowaway, or double that if cargo
delays are
involved…

of Buchanan, Liberia, where they were soon detained for being undocumented.

'uncircumcised lips' twice only after this very odd incident with Zipporah.
As we shall see, the issue of not listening (connected to Pharaoh’s heart)
to the words of God as expounded by Moses will come
up again. The Hebrew word ‘milah’ meaning circumcision also means word. Thus
the man with the uncircumcised son has uncircumcised lips because people
will not listen to him. ‘Milah’ in Hebrew
means both circumcision & word; thus the
man with uncircumcised foreskin is concerned
that people will not listen to his words.
His son is now circumcised & his identity partially
re-established. His lips will become
eloquent from the words of God. God
circumcised Moses lips by making him a god
to Pharaoh (6:30-7:1) &
Zipporah circumcised their son. His son is now
circumcised by his non-Jewish Midianite
wife, saving his & his son's life. Moses
major role is as a speaker to the Hebrews
and to God as we will see. In his
recognition of this & his continuing confusion as
to his identity he uses the term `uncircumcised lips' related it to the
major role in life.33 Zipporah helped Moses
achieve his identity. She reacted when he felt overwhelmed. Is it
conceivable that Zipporah circumcised Moses? We are not told specifically
that Moses was circumcised. [A Midrash (theory/speculation) says he was born circumcised: meaning he was

an angel flicks his fingers at the lip
indenting the top lip. Since Moses is to
become the Lawgiver of Judaism, perhaps the
angel chose not to indent his lip & instead circumcised him. Does that strange idea come about because there was speculation that he was
not circumcised until Zipporah did it.]"
