| ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE |
| Candida fungus overgrowth can cause 75 known toxins. It has been known to encase a heart and cause heart failure. One waste product is acetaldehyde which produces ethanol. Ethanol destroys enzymes. www.bellnet.de/candida.htm |

Candidiasis (yeast infection) may contribute to chronic fatigue syndrome.
White and Sherlock in the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine 3rd
quarter 2005/vol 20/#3 www.orthomed.org
explain that candida release toxins which may affect (a) the brain causing
mental and emotional disturbances or space-out feelings, (b) T-cell
function, (c) muscles, (d) energy, and (e) hormones (by fitting into
hormone receptor sites). Contributors to candida growth are sugar,
stress, birth control pills, pollution, antibiotics, and pregnancy (by its
hormonal alternation of the body). Candida can continue down the
birth canal and infect the newborn. Typical medications are neither
completely safe nor completely effective. Recommendations are (for
at least 1 month) to avoid yeast, sugar, refined grains, stimulants and
fermented foods + take vitamin C, folic acid, pyridoxal-5-phosphate, riboflavin, vitamin A, zinc, magnesium, selenium, essential fatty acids, and pantothenic acid. Month 2 take caprylic acid. It is found in coconut oil and human breast milk. (It also decreases blood platelet stickiness, aids digestion, reduces blood and liver cholesterol, plus increases calcium uptake.) Month 3 take oregano. Month 4 take a supplement containing both L acidophilus and B bifidum in encapsulated freeze-dried milk-free form, milk thistle containing silymarin, + roasted dandelion coffee. |

Coconut oil [a saturated fat, from the coconut - milk or copra
(white meat)] taken 3-4 tablespoons (preferably as organic, raw or virgin)
with each meal will do a miracle, if one is faithful to do it daily,
preferably for a lifetime, because it will also do wonders for one's
energy and hormones, especially the thyroid. Coconuts may contain
capric, caprylic and lauric acid; all have a good track record
for routing Candida.

| Elizabeth Lee Vliet MD in Screaming to be Heard cites hormone imbalance (ovary decline, perimenopause, menopause), high-carbohydrate diets, progesterone excess or high-progestin birth control pills, antibiotic excess, corticosteroid excess, diabetes, hypothroidism, stress affecting pH of mucosal linings, alcohol excess, smoking, and use of stimulants may increase candida infections. www.herplace.com |
| Glycoscience contends that one needs 8 simple sugars daily to expedite communication between cells. A patented product containing the 8 simple sugars was found superior to aloe in reducing Candida fungus. Leaky Gut Syndrome, a Keats Good Health Guide, by Elizabeth Lipski,
says to avoid sugar, alcohol and vinegar. She says that dead fungi
release protein fragments and endotoxins that trigger an antibody response
creating a Herxheimer reaction. Thus it is wise to slowly titer up
our therapeutics. She recommends Berberine, capryllic acid, garlic,
grapefruit seed, mathake tea, oil of oregano, pau d'arco tea, and tanalbit.
Recommended are refrigerated probiotics, FOS such as found in barley, fruit, garlic, Jerusalem artichoke, onions, and bananas; digestive enzymes, and hydrochloric acid such as betaine HCL with each protein meal. At the first sign of an infection take vitamin C with each meal and at bedtime. Other suggestions = eat organic, eat local foods in season, eat live fruits and vegetables, eat small frequent meals, avoid junk and fast foods, relax when eating, and exercise. www.amazon.com lipski@aloha.net |
| Nutrition and Mental Illness - Sampling of the Current Scientific Literature part 2 by Gary Null and Martin Feldman MD suggest garlic (allium sativum), carrots, calcium and copper. www.thorne.com/townsend/nov/null.html |

To increase your metabolic rate (or body temperature) use Omega-3
vegetable fatty acids such as flax & DHA-EPA & reduce antioxidants
such as vitamin E. CQ-10 is OK. For infection: use Oil of Oregano or vitamin A (in small amounts) For itching or allergies: reduce grains, dairy, nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers), oxalic acid foods (berries, beer, beans including soybeans, citrus or coffee. For excess acidity and ammonia: use L-glutamine (Do not use glucosamine.) plus calcium (take PM). www.biochemicals.com |
| Yeast Control In Seven Days by Sal D'Onofrio suggests swallowing before meals 1 very small whole garlic clove, plus placing acidophilus and boric acid capsules in vagina at bedtime. If using tampons, PM use damp unbleached cotton tampons impregnated with tree tea oil. NEVER microwave food! Drink oxygenated water if available from grocer. natdr@aol.com www.healthguardians.com |
| Valerie Saxion in How to Feel Great All The Time book and Mind and Body Essentials cassettes, notes that Candida is more active at night such as on the legs and at 3 AM. She says to look for a yellow coated tongue. www.paulawhite.org |

Non-fermentable saccharomyces cerevisiae Baker's yeast may help
eliminate Candida.

Fresh/active baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) "aerobically
generates carbon dioxide for breads and pastries." In "regular bread S. cerevisiae provides flavor and carbon dioxide for holes to give light texture." In "sourdough bread S. exiguus (provides flavor and carbon dioxide ) and Lactobacillus (provides flavor)." The residue/already fermented product is what is used in nutritional supplements. (Inactivated) Brewer's yeast (Saccharomyces carlsbergensis) (the residue from breweries) is "used as vitamin B-rich food additive [relatively high (16%) in nucleic acids, which may cause kidney stones or gout when consumed in large quantities over long periods of time.] http://www.cas.muohio.edu/~stevenjr/mbi630/industrialmicro630.html |

Brewer's yeast (Saccharomyces carlsbergensis)
"Brewer's yeast is an inactive(d)
yeast. This means the yeasts have been killed and have no
(longer any) leavening power. It is
the yeast remaining after beer making. Yes that's right, Beer leftovers
are good for you. It is used as a nutrient supplement to increase the
intake of B vitamins. Brewer's yeast comes powdered (the most potent
form), in flakes (best for health shakes), and in tablets. Brewer's yeast
and torula yeast are frequently confused with nutritional yeast.
Nutritional yeast is a primary grown food crop, which means it is
cultivated specifically for use as a nutritional supplement. This yeast is
dried at higher temperatures than baking yeast, rendering it inactive.
Unlike the live yeasts used in breadmaking and brewing, nutritional yeast
has (hopefully) no
(residual/remaining) fermenting or leavening power.
Brewer's yeast has been a staple of the health food industry since its
beginning. The famous health teachers all believed in brewer's yeast in
one form or another because it is rich in the B-complex vitamins...(Inactivated)
Brewer's yeast does not contribute to yeast infections such as
Candida albicans."

Known Hazards = "Not to be used in case of yeast allergies. Sensitive individuals may experience migraine-like headaches. Some individuals with intolerance may experience itching, urticaria, local or general exanthemas, and Quincke's edema. Oral intake of fermentable yeast may cause flatulence. May cause an increase in blood pressure with simultaneous intake of monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Simultaneous intake of antimycotics can affect the activity of the brewer's yeast." |
| Studies of C.albicans have revealed findings which might explain some symptoms found in patients with FRD: C.albicans can disturb the immune system at different levels:15,16–18 it is a polyantigenic organism containing at least 30 different antigens;19,20 it cross-reacts with baker's yeast and brewer's yeast;21 it can induce production of autoantibodies and endocrinopathy;22 it produces IgA proteases;23 it contains glycoproteins which stimulate the mast cells to release histamine and apparently prostaglandin;24,25 it assimilates all sugars except lactose;26 it depresses the activity of lactase;27,28 and it has a synergistic effect with Staphylococcus aureus.29 ...We would speculate that the beneficial effect of nystatin (drug) in our study is due to a reduction in the overall fungal colonization in the gastrointestinal tract in patients sensitive to fungus antigens or toxins, rather than a control of a Candida infection (overgrowth)...Nystatin (drug) is well known for its antifungal effect on C.albicans which is found (normally) in all segments of the gastrointestinal tract in 10–80% of humans,14,15,19 as well as on other yeasts and moulds. http://fampra.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/full/18/3/258 |
| Beta-glucan "Derived from baker’s yeast, mushrooms, and oats, beta-glucan stimulates macrophage cells vital to a healthy immune system. Beta-glucan has also been used for viral infections such as HIV, Epstein-Barr, and herpes and in fungal infections such as candidiasis." http://www.americanwellnessnetwork.com/content/view/877/37/ |
| Inactive yeast - One can make his own B vitamins and protein. "Dried yeast powder & tablets cause aftertaste and indigestion, and are expensive. You can buy fresh compressed block yeast at bakery shops for a few cents a pound. Tell them that you are going to eat it, and you want the freshest they have. You mustn't eat it raw. It has to be cooked to kill the fermentation, otherwise you will have gas, and will not properly digest it. To cook a pound of yeast, bring 1 cup of water to the boil in a pot on low heat, put in the yeast about 1/4 pound at a time and stir constantly, adding more yeast as it melts. After it is all melted, keep stirring a little longer until it puffs up and begins to boil. Put it in a little Pyrex measuring pitcher, cover with foil and put it in the refrigerator, where it will keep fine for a month or more if you don't foul it by drinking out of it or (re)dipping into it with a (contaminated/used) spoon. You can flavor it with honey, molasses, vanilla, or whatever you like. Pour yourself a few spoonfuls each day, so one person would use up the pound in 3 to 4 weeks. You can take it straight from a spoon, or mix it into a beverage or food. Yeast contains the B vitamins + proteins."
