Healing Hands

The laying on of hands
is one method God uses to remove sin
and to impart His healing.
Touch is another aspect of hands reaching out to give or receive a blessing
such as the gift/ministry of healing.

Matthew 8:3 NIV    Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man.  He said, "I am willing; be clean."  Immediately he (the leper) was cured of his leprosy.
Matthew 8:15 KJVer    He touched her hand and the fever left her.
Matthew 9:20-22    A woman who had been subject to bleeding for 12 years came up behind Him and touched the edge of His cloak.  she said to herself, "If I only touch His cloak, I will be healed."  Jesus turned and saw her.  "Take heart, daughter, " He said, "your faith has healed you." (See Luke 6:19)
Matthew 14:35 NIV    All who touched Him were healed.
Matthew 19:13 TPNT    Children were brought to Him, so that He could place hands on them and pray.

Mark 5:23 NIV    (Jairus) pleaded earnestly with Him, "My little daughter is dying.  Please come and put Your hands on her, so that she will be healed and live."  So Jesus went with him.
Mark 5:28 KJV    She said, "If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole."  Straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up.  She felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.   Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that virtue (healing anointing/power) had  gone out of Him, turned about in the press(ing crowd) and said, "Who touched My clothes?"
Mark 6:5    He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands upon a few sick folk and healed them.
Mark 7:32-35   There some people brought to Him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Him to place His hand on the man.  After He took him aside, away from the crowd, (away from unbelievers,) Jesus put His fingers into the man's ears.  Then He spit and touched the man's tongue.  He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, "Be opened.."  At this, the man's ears were opened, (the bondage of) his tongue was loosened (loosed) and he began to speak plainly.   (TPNT footnote states that the spittle/spit of the1st born son was believed to have healing power.)
Mark 8:22 TPNT   They  came into Bethsaida.  They brought to Him a blind man and begged Him that He would touch him.
Mark 8:23-25    He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of town.  When He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw OK.  He looked up and said, "I see men as trees, walking."  After that He put His hands again on his eyes and made him look up.   He was restored and saw every man clearly.
Mark 16:15-18    He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.  Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.  Whoever does not believe will be condemned.  These signs will accompany those who believe: (1) In My name they will drive out demons.  (2) They will   speak in  new tongues.  (3) They will pick up snakes with their hands.  (4) When they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all.  (5) They will place their hands on sick people and they (the sick) will get well.

Luke 4:40-41   The people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness.  Laying His hands on each one, He healed them.  Moreover, demons came out of many people.
Luke 6:17-19 KJV    He came down with them and stood in the plain, the company of His disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea, Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, came to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases. They that were vexed (oppressed) with unclean spirits were healed.  The whole multitude sought to touch Him, for there went virtue (healing power/anointing) out of Him, and healed them all.
Luke 7:14-15     Then He went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still.  He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!"  The dead man sat up and began to talk.
(Spiritual Insight = The Holy Spirit is the resurrection power then and now.)
Luke 13:11-13 KJVer    There was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity 18 years, who was bowed together and could in no way lift up herself.  When Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said, "Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity."  He laid His hands on her.  Immediately she was made straight and glorified God.

Acts 9:11-12 KJV    The Lord said, ..."Saul...prays and has seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight." 
Acts 9:17-18 KJV    Ananias went, entered the house, put his hands on him, and said, "Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared to you in the way as you came, has sent me, that you might receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost."  Immediately there fell from his eyes, as it had been scales.  He received sight, forthwith, arose, and was baptized.
Acts 10:38    God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and...He went around doing good and healing all who were [(KJV) oppressed by] under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.  (Insight = Christ is a synonym of anointed.)
Acts 19:6    When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they spoke in  tongues and prophesied.
Acts 28:8-9    His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery.  Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and (God) healed him.  When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured. 

1st Timothy 5:22 NIV    Do NOT be hasty in the laying on of hands.

                                         PRAYING USING THE LAYING ON OF HANDS
William Branham laid hands on people who wanted healing prayer.
He prayed as the Holy Spirit directed. 
The following is one example of a prayer we can use when laying on of hands.

"Thank You, Father, that Your healing power was given to me through the laying on of hands.  It is working mightily in me. 
I may not feel it, but, Father, You said in Your Holy Word that believers shall lay hands on the sick, and the sick shall recover.
I  BELIEVE that I am recovering. 
I want to thank You, Father, that if it was not for You -
If it was not for the laying on of hands
and Your power - I would remain sick.
I BELIEVE that I am recovering now."

"Thank God, the healing power of God was ministered on _______________________________________(Friday/Saturday/Sunday/etc) to _________________________________ (my) (child's/son's/daughter's/etc) _____________________________________________ (head/heart/feet/etc).  That power is working in the ______________________(head/heart/feet/etc) now to effect a healing and a cure.

HEALING ANOINTING

Most often, those ministering to others, especially for healing, WAIT for God's anointing before stepping out to pray for others.  That is because in our own power we are failures; we are not plugged into God, nor is God plugged into us.  A good example of waiting for God to show up before laying on of hands is the healing ministry of William Branham.

Ordination

Numbers 11:16-18 NIV    The Lord said to Moses, "Bring me 70 of Israel's elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people.  Have them come to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you.  I will come down and speak with you there, and I will  take of the (Holy) Spirit that is on you and put the Spirit on them.  They will help you carry the burden of the people, so that you will not have to carry it alone."

Deuteronomy 24:9 NKJV    Joshua the son of Nun was full of the Spirit of Wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.   

Luke 10:1-3 NIV    The Lord (Jesus) appointed 72 others and sent then 2 by 2 ahead of Him to every town and place where He was about to go.   He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.  Go!  I am sending you out like lambs among wolves."

John 15:16 NIV    You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit - fruit that will last.

Hebrews 6:1-3 NIV    Let us leave the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

Conferring Ministry or Mission

Acts 6:1-6 TPNT    1As the disciples were increasing in number there was a complain of the Hellenists (Jews) against the Hebrews, because their widows were being neglected in daily service (supplies).  2When the 12 summoned the multitude of disciples, they said, "It is not pleasing that we have neglected the Word of God to look after tables.  3You, brothers, must now provide 7 approved men from yourselves, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we could appoint for this need.  4We shall persist in prayer and in service of the Word."  5The request pleased the whole multitude.  They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochoros, Nicanor and Timon, Parmenas and Nicolass, a proselyte from Antioch, 6whom they stood before the apostles; when they prayed, they laid hands on them. 
Acts 13:2-3 TPNT    2The Holy Spirit said while they were serving the Lord and fasting, "Now separate right away for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."  3They left after they fasted, prayed, and laid hands on them.

Acts 8:14-17    When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.  When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the  Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.  Then Peter and John placed their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.  
Acts 8:18-23 NIV    When Simon saw that the (Holy) Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money and said, "Give me also this ability, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."  Peter answered, "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!  You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.  Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord.  Perhaps He will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.  I see you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."

LAYING ON OF HANDS imparts many "GIFTS" in addition to HEALING

Deuteronomy 34:9 NIV    Joshua, son of Num, was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. (Spiritual insight = Notice there is a small s for spirit.)

Romans 1:11-12 NIV    I long to see you, so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong - that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith.

1st Timothy 4:14-15 TPNT    14You must not ever neglect the spiritual gift in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the elders.  15You must regularly cultivate these spiritual gifts; you must continually be among those people, so that your progress would be revealed to all.

2nd Timothy 1:6-8 KJV    I (Paul) put you in remembrance that you stir up (fan into flame) the gift (Holy Spirit power) of God, which is in you by the putting on of my hands;  for God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.  Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord.

LAYING ON OF HANDS may impart or transfer spiritual blessings

Deuteronomy 26:8 NKJV    The Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm, with great terror and with signs and wonders.
Deuteronomy 34:9    Joshua, son of Num, was filled with The Spirit of Wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him, so the children of Israel heeded him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.  7 ROLES of the Holy Spirit  (Spiritual insight = The actual person, The Spirit of Wisdom, may be active here.)

Matthew 19:13-15 NIV    Little children were brought to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them and pray for them.  The disciples rebuked those who brought them.  Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me.  Do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."  When He had place His hands on them, He went on from there.

Mark 10:16 NIV    He took the children in His arms, put His hands on them and blessed them.

LAYING ON OF HANDS may impart or transfer spiritual danger

1st Timothy 5:22 TPNT    You must not ever lay hands quickly on anyone, and not (nor) share another's sins; you must habitually keep yourself pure.
[Spiritual insight = Some ministries teach/believe that you can receive another's demons when laying on hands prematurely!  Some teach never to allow strangers (or spiritually immature underlings) to lay hands on you.  Some teach never to lay hands on another until you receive an unction/anointing from God.]

LAYING ON of HANDS for THE TRANSFER OF SINS to a SCAPE-GOAT   

Leviticus 16:20-22 NIV    When Aaron (the priest) has finished making atonement for the Most Holy Place, the Tent of Meeting and the altar, he shall bring forward the live goat.  He is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the  wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites-all their sins-and put them (sins) on the goat's head.  He shall send the goat away into the desert in the care of a man appointed for the task.  The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a solitary place; the man shall release it in the desert. (In the New Testament Jesus is called the "lamb" of God;  Jesus is the "scape goat" for our sins.)
Leviticus 16:30-32 NIV    On this day, atonement will be made for you, to cleanse you.  Then before the Lord, you will be clean from all your sins.  It is a Sabbath of rest and you must deny yourselves.  It is a lasting ordinance.  The priest, who is anointed and ordained to succeed his father as high priest, is to make atonement.    (In the New Testament Jesus is called our "high priest".)

Numbers 8:10-19 NIV    (The Lord said to Moses,) "You are to present the Levites before the Lord as a wave offering from the the Israelites, so that they may be ready to do the work of the Lord.  After the Levites lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, use one (bull) for a  sin offering to the Lord and the other (bull) for a burnt offering, to make atonement for the Levites.  Have the Levites stand in front of Aaron and his sons and then present them as a wave offering to the Lord.  In this way you are to set the Levites apart from the other Israelites, and the Levites will be mine.  After you have purified the Levites and presented them as a wave offering, they are to come to do their work at the Tent of Meeting.  They are the Israelites who are to be given wholly to Me.  I have taken them as My own in place of  the firstborn, the first male offspring from every Israelite woman.  Every firstborn male in Israel, whether man or animal, is Mine.  When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set them apart for Myself.  I have taken the Levites in place of all the firstborn sons in Israel.  Of all the Israelites, I have  given the Levites as gifts to Aaron and his sons to do the work at the Tent of Meeting on behalf of the Israelites and to make atonement for them, so that no plague will strike the Israelites when they go near the sanctuary." (Spiritual insight = The bulls were substitute offerings for sin, as were goats. Remember in the New Testament how evil spirits went from 2 men into the pigs, so that the insane men became sane and the pigs became insane and committed suicide. See Matthew 8:30-34.   Evil spirits want a body to inhabit.  Evil spirits express their evil nature through living bodies.  We see the evidence in aging, disease, sin, and depravity.  On the cross Christ took our sins and died.  His death took away the consequences of our sin.  His resurrection from death allows us forgiveness, adoption and entitlements as children of God.)

Chapter 7 Developing Healing Ministries shares the testimony of a family.  Chavda contended, "This is not a time to cry; this is a time to fight!  Give me that picture.  We're going to lay hands on this picture."   He continued, "Satan, this young lady does not belong to you. Her mother and father are believers in Jesus, and her grandmother is a believer in Jesus.  In the name of Jesus Christ, take your hands off this girl!  Angels of God, rescue this daughter!  I send you now to bring her back to her family!"  Yes, God did answer that prayer.  In 4 hours the daughter who had disappeared into the drug world became free and called home.  "When we speak His name, the resources of Heaven are loosed for us."
"I learned in some circumstances to pray for a situation and pray again and again...In some circumstances you may have to lay on hands every day....Certain times you may have to lay on hands many times."
"Aggressively thank and praise God for any improvement, any miracle.  This seems to set a pathway for healing...When there is a healing, it's always Christ Who gets the glory.  The more aggressively you give Him praise and glory the more you will steward the healing mantle in your life....
At several junctures he (Elijah) told Elisha to stop following him.  This was not disobedience, but desperation.  Elisha passed the test, insisting again and again, 'I will not leave you.'  Eventually he got the payoff.  He received a double portion of the miracle mantle of Elijah, the great servant of God...Elisha let this mantle permeate his entire being so much so that when he died, his very bones were saturated with this healing virtue.  In 2nd Kings 13:21, a person who had just died was raised to life again after accidentally touching Elisha's bones."

Chapter 8 Hungry for the Glory shares that Mashesh prayed for his team who had hands raised to God, "Lord, the anointing that You put on me, put on them." (This a God's transference of anointing, as God did with Moses and his helpers. Numbers 11:16-14 NKJV  The Lord said to Moses, "Gather to Me 70 men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tabernacle of meeting, that they may stand there with you.  17Then I will come down and talk with you there.  I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them.  They shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone.") Then his team prayed with the Haitians, who received healing/miracles, including one person born blind who received sight.

In Chapter 33 Sanctification Lake shares that out of his need for healing, he allowed another to pray for him without 1st consulting the Holy Spirit.  This resulted in his being open for a spirit of sensuousness, which soiled his soul for days, until he was able to cleanse himself from that evil spirit.  Later that individual confessed his character defect.  Then Lake understood that the evil nature had been transmitted to him by the other person, who had laid hands on him during prayer.
1st Timothy 5:22 NIV reads, "Do NOT be hasty in the laying on of hands."  Lake would add that one is not to be hasty in allowing others to lay hands on us.

Chapter 1 Change Your Mind shares that we do NOT have to lay on hands. "Instead of laying hands on her and praying, the students surrounded her in worship, singing songs, expressing their love to the Lord."  As they continued to sing, she continued to be healed in that hospital bed of various problems, including deafness, pain and slurred speech.

The Boy and His Deprivation (1909-1932) God talks to Branham in visions and in the wind.
The Young Man and His Desperation (1933-1946) God commissions Branham.
The Man and His Commission (1946-50) God uses Branham's hands to heal.
Branham's healing ministry is an example of a unique manifestation of the Holy Spirit.  An angel would appear, usually as a light or cloud.  Then, as Branham prayed, his left hand would vibrate.  Each disease had a different vibration, which would stop when the person was healed. 
The Evangelist and His Acclamation (1951-1954) God gives Branham visions.
Visions were the most frequent way the Lord communicated to Branham.  Seldom did Branham act until he had seen it first in a vision.  In scripture Jesus says that He only does what He sees His father doing.

Chapter 7 Smith Wigglesworth - Apostle of Faith
In Sweden in 1920 the medical profession (Contention was that he was practicing medicine without a license.) and local authorities ganged up on Wigglesworth and prohibited him from laying on of hands to heal, so Wigglesworth instructed the congregation to lay their hands on themselves and to believe as he prayed.  This ministry method of wholesale healing worked just as well, because God answers to faith and not method.

Oral shared that when God's healing anointing comes, it comes into his right hand, beginning with his right elbow.  Usually he leads the congregation in a prayer for salvation before he has healing services at the end or and/on the last day.  When he lays hands on the individuals, he does not always know if they are healed, because often recipients need faith to activate the healing.  When demons are there, Oral knows in his hand, if there are demons, how many demons, and what their names are.  Then he can cast them out. There is never any power in his left hand, as there was with Branham.

1st Timothy 5:22 TPNT  You must not ever lay hands quickly on anyone and not share another's sins; you must habitually keep yourself pure.
1st Timothy 1:18 TPNT  I set this command before you, (spiritual) son Timothy, according to the prophecies that went over you earlier (upon your commissioning/baptism of the Holy Spirit with laying on of hands), that by them you would (be able to) fight the good warfare.
1st Timothy 1:20 TPNT  Hymenaeus and Alexander...I gave over to Satan, so that they would be disciplined.
1st Timothy 4:14 TPNT  You must not never neglect the spiritual gift in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the elders.
2nd Timothy 1:6 TPNT  I am reminding you to rekindle the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
2nd Corinthians 6:17-18  "Come out from them and be separate,"  says the Lord.  "Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.  I will be a Father to you and you will be My sons and daughters," says the Lord Almighty.
Benny Hinn  warns us when ministering never to allow strangers to lay hands on us nor to suddenly lay hands on strangers,
because we can take on others' demons/problems/sins/curses and because the Lord may allow evil consequences. 
He also admonishes no laying on of hands without the accompanying preaching/teaching of the gospel.
What advantage is there to save/minister to the body and lose the soul/spirit to hell? 
Remember, there is the final judgment (or at least the awarding of prizes or the lack thereof).  When we get to heaven and are judged for taking on the sin of another through our own disobedience/ignorance of scripture; we are guilty even though we did not commit the sin/sins of another.  (It is sort of like when we join ourselves in marriage or prostitution, becoming one flesh, and possibly taking on their unforgiven/unrepented/unconfessed sins.)  We need both God's blood/protection and His anointing before we act/lay hands on another or have them lay hands on us. (Our present life may be full of trouble due to this one error.  Quickly, go to the altar, repent, turn around from one's old methods, and allow the Lord to lead 24/7.)
