TITHING

Tithing conjures up the picture of a fat hand ready to grab your wallet. Actually, to God, a tithe back to Him from us is His return/share on what He has given us! The more we give back, the bigger His return on His investment in us. A tithe is His cut of what He owns. If we give Him back 10% of the 100% income/assets He has already given us, then we actually get a take of 90%. If we give Him an annual tithe of 1% then we have a take home benefit of 99%; however, we are short changing Him. Good for us; bad for Him.
Those who give the most to Him are the ones who get the most from Him, for God will not allow anyone to out-give Him nor out-bless Him. Therefore, to withhold or reduce a tithe from God is to withhold/ reduce our blessings from Him. The more we keep for ourselves, the less we get from God; this is an inverse relationship/consequence/spiritual law. The less we keep for ourselves, the more we get from God.
It only appears that a 10-90 relationship exists in the 1st paragraph/example/tax illustration. The spiritual reality is entirely different. The more we give to God, the more He will give to us. If we give Him 10 dollars we will get that back, usually equal, double or 100 times more, if not in dollars then in other benefits. Never underestimate the heart/love/favor of God! Test and see if the Lord will not open the heavens for you!

God is both our banker and financial advisor. It behooves us to listen to and heed His Word.

Joni Lamb says that we need to be sure that possessions do not own us. That mindset could be a red flag indicating a need for healing/deliverance from the spirit of poverty, competition, superiority, covetousness, greed, fear, etc.

Most of us are familiar with the fact that Jesus Christ did ALL (salvation, healing, deliverance, provisions) for us 2000 years ago and then sat down at the right hand of God, waiting for us in each generation to do our part as sons and daughters. The "our part" includes claiming/applying what He already did years ago. If there is money in the bank sitting there for 2,000 years, then it is about time for each of us to claim/go after our inheritance. We need to contend/fight for our inheritance, until we get it. Perchance Satan has stolen it, then we need to get it back. Wake up! If you are a millionaire by inheritance, would you not hire a lawyer and see to it that you got your fair share! Arise. Wake up. Take those sleepers out of your eyes. We have it ALL. Now go and claim it. It is no good to you or to God sitting in the bank, sitting in heaven, or sitting in Satan's hands.

Matthew 13:19-22    When anyone hears the Word of the kingdom, and does not understand It, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his/her heart. This is he/she who received seed by the wayside. But, he/she who received the seed on stony places, hears the Word and immediately receives It with joy; yet, he/she has no root in himself/herself, but (and) endures only for awhile.
Now, he/she who received seed among the thorns is he/she who hers the Word; the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the Word. He/she becomes unfruitful.
Matthew 13:23 NIV   The one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the Word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding 100, 60 or 30 times what was sown (tithed).

John shares that there is a difference between a good tithe and a great tithe. God looks at our heart/motive/intentions/attitude and NOT at the size of our gift. We always need to view things from His perspective. John goes on to share that the more we give to Him the more He will give to us. This is not based on being a great stock broker or financial planner, to get the biggest bang on the buck. It is based on LOVE. Love triggers hugs and kisses from the recipient. Manipulation is always rejected. An attitude of gratitude is always welcome. God is not out to grant us a limo and a castle. However, He will feed our kids, heal our diseases, and take care of us the way any able honorable father would. The majority of us are not chosen to be martyrs.
A tithe is not always money. It can be time or material such as assets (that would be considered valuable enough to be a deduction on our tax return). A tax deduction is not always a tithe, unless it goes to a church/mission. In the old testament, God required that all synagogue gifts/sacrifices be perfect/without blemish. Only one's best (not second best/not second hand) is a rule of thumb. When we give our new coat to a homeless person, we are NOT giving it to a person, we are giving it to God. If the person sells it for drugs, that is NOT our concern, because it is no longer our coat. It is God's coat. We cannot be an "Indian giver". Often we give out of our need to make ourselves feel good rather than the recipient's need. Did God want us to give that coat, or did our guilt want us to give it?

They had 90% of the garden, but they wanted His portion. They wanted 100%. When we say that we do not have enough to tithe,
we are robbing God of His share; we are actually sabotaging ourselves! Often we fail to recognize that it is He Who gives the increase,
the highest rate of interest, the biggest bang for the buck, the biggest return on our investments.

Excellent overview of tithing + offerings in excess of 10% of tithing. When you tithe, tithe purposely. For instance, when you order from Sears or Montgomery Ward catalogue, you order specifically a blue blouse size medium, item #678, NOT Sir, "Give me a shirt or 2." When you want corn, you plant corn seed, not tomato seed. We need to be specific with our intentions. We are to EXPECT a harvest, but 1'st we have to deliberately plant (tithe/invest) seed (money/time).
God placed a deposit (surety) of the Holy Spirit in us and He expects a return! He invested in us. Will he get 33, 66 or 99% return? He expects a minimum of 10% return on His investment in us when it comes to money. Do we plow back into His kingdom at least 10% of our income?
If not, it is no wonder that some of us have financial woes.

COMMENTARY. Judas, a messianic Jew, was one of Jesus' elite dozen, in the inner circle, participating in ministry, healing, deliverance, miracles. Yet, greed, disillusionment, impatience, discouragement, covetousness, hoarding, selfishness, preoccupation with me/myself/I, pride, etc. all contributed to his betrayal of his Messiah/boss/leader/mentor/rabbi. If Judas could have a demon, then certainly Christians can have a demon, especially as the roots of bitterness, etc. grow and are not pruned/uprooted. DANGER. Many of us could unwittingly become Judases if we are not careful. It is unlikely that Judas set out to become that way. A demon entered him at the end of his life. Nonetheless, it did. The soil of his soul was ready for that implantation. Ouch.
Father God, in Jesus' name, we do right now repent for self-preoccupation, greed, hoarding, lusting after and over-collecting things - rather than passionately pursuing You and Your heavenly treasures. Father, we neglected to notice how terrible and dangerous these attitudes are. We failed to notice the slippery slope in which our hearts are headed - down. Father, we honestly do repent. We curse the roots of pride and its bedfellows. Father, we are helpless without Your help and mercy. Create within us a clean and right heart,
especially towards You. Help our thoughts, love, passions to line up with Yours, for Your glory and benefit.

God looks at the motive or heart of the man passing out the offering plate. Greed not need can be a problem in ministry. Building MY empire instead of God's can be another problem. Much of what is done "in the name of God" is self rather than God serving. Although God did raise up rich kings, He Himself set the example of washing feet, that is, of being a servant as opposed to being served. Everything Jesus did was to elevate His Dad in Heaven, rather than to glorify self on earth. Jesus was accountable only to what His dad and boss, Father God, wanted. There is NOTHING wrong with seed faith, or name it faith. What is wrong is doing ANYTHING not in love and in disobedience to our Maker's wishes. Jesus did ONLY what He SAW His Father doing. We may not yet be at that spiritual level, but at least we should DAILY attempt to line up with what we perceive to be Father God's wishes, and when we slip to immediately apologize and get back on track (not in our own strength, but His).

Hinn, Benny - On numerous telethons and when interviewing guests with business backgrounds, Benny Hinn will mention that God directed him to tell his audience to be sure to tithe into the Gospel, meaning into ministries that will spread His heart/message/healing/deliverance/salvation. Second, Benny reminds us to always consider our tithe as an arrow with a target/goal/purpose/need. Even though we may weekly tithe into another ministry, we also need to purposely tithe each gift as a seed for what we desire God to accomplish. That way, when the seed grows, we can testify as to God's work in our lives.
This is somewhat like the teachings of Oral Roberts, except that we are deliberately aiming (planting) it (EACH tithe/gift/seed) like an arrow for a purpose.

It appears that when a declaration is made that something “belongs to me” there is an evil spiritual connection formed between the individual and the object. The object may range in size from a small item to a large land mass. Therefore, if ownership is declared over a piece of property it is, in essence, given over to the enemy (i.e. high place), and an ungodly spiritual connection called a dominion is formed between the individual and the object. One therapist I was working with had a vision of an evil dominion as a "covering" over the whole earth (one entity). This is both for your and your donor's protection. Poor missionaries/clergy can become co-dependent on donors emotionally, mentally, physically and financially. For instance they can even consider a donor to be their parent/defender/rescuer/bank to the extent of saying that God told them "you" would take care of them. They may even badger "you" for money like a wining, spoiled child or impoverished cunning gypsy.
Meanwhile, as there are minimal legal/governmental restraints/oversight, the recipients of donations can use the majority of donations for personal needs or for any aspect of the business/church/charity/mission which is the most urgent. A good charity needs to be 101% transparent. No secrets. No hidden agendas. Preferably no or low payroll.
One big problem with many charities that require missionaries to raise their own funds is that many workers have had little life/work/business experiences limiting their appreciation of the funds donated to them to do missionary work - or limiting their capability to manage the income received. Since the main role is to save souls and bodies, there is negligible oversight or insight into protecting the missionaries emotionally or financially regarding the raising/management of their own funds or the funds of others. The men and women of God tend to be overworked and underpaid, as well as unsupervised financially. It could be considered something akin to being on welfare wages, but working 24/7.
If someone is begging for $ 24/7, then he may need to be taught how to fish, rather than being handed a fish.
Pray on these things.

Do you have a favorite charity that keeps soliciting/hounding your funds and seldom sending acknowledgements, until year end? You may be up against a subcontractor that gets a percentage of the take. Does your favorite charity ignore/not respond to your notes and prayer requests? Is your favorite charity NOT a member of ECFA or comparable accountability organization? That charity, if not duping you, may itself be in the process of being duped by its money handlers! BEWARE. Do not mail cash or coins to your charity. Write on the back of each check - for deposit only. Write on the face of each check in lower left hand corner the purpose of the contribution. Is your financial beggar a good taker but a poor administrator of funds? Does he/she know how to handle money efficiently and effectively, or do funds go down the drain or through a sieve. Does the pastor know how to run a business as well as run a parsonage or congregation? Does the pastor have a Mercedes Benz while you have a second hand mutt of a vehicle? No harm there, but take a second look at how he/she is handling the income. Your money may be better off elsewhere.

Do NOT allow ministries to badger you for money or put you on a guilt trip. Remember, it is to God and NOT to them to which we tithe.
On the other hand, it is the responsibility for us to tithe to those who regularly contribute to our spiritual development.

Ministries, be reminded NOT to falsely represent yourself. It is God Who we are suppose to represent/reflect, as in a mirror. For instance, do not say or imply that you do deliverance work, when in fact you do not cast out evil spirits in the name of Jesus. Do not imply that you or your ministers have the baptism of the Holy Spirit evidenced by the gifts and the fruit of the Holy Spirit; do not claim that you are born-again, when your character is the same as the unbeliever. If you or your staff are loose as a goose on theological standards, in order to keep the lines of communication open and to keep attendees plus funds coming in, then that is compromise, deceit, manipulation, and/or self-delusion.

They didn't know what was happening; then a bunch of people walked into Macy's and suddenly went wild and began to steal and within an hour everybody (I saw the spirit of everybody in the store.) They were robbing and stealing. They raped Macy's and destroyed 5 floors. Macy's was raped and ruined in a period of an hour or 2.

Read through 1 Cor: 13 This, verse for example (v 3) 'And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor and though I give my body to be burned and have not love it PROFITS me nothing.' There is no promise of return to wrong motivation.
I believe when you give for other reasons, especially legalist and religious, you can actually bring a curse on your finances.
