Prophetic Messianic SCRIPTURE
from the Greek SEPTUAGINT
The Septuagint is traditionally a
200 BC Greek version
LXX of the
Old Testament Masoretic Hebrew text and often varies significantly from the
Hebrew text. Subsequent translations are often different in meaning or
emphasis due to context. The main issue is when Hebrew/Aramaic Old
Testament scripture is quoted/repeated in the New Testament. Fulfillment
of prophecy is of particular importance, when this happens. Most of the
following scripture reveals that the prophesied Jewish Messiah is Jesus Christ.
Many of the following comparisons are in TEV - Today's English Version.
Matthew 1:23/Isaiah 7:14
-
A virgin will become pregnant and have a son.
Matthew 1:22-23 NIV - All this took place to fulfill what
the Lord (God) had said through the prophet,
"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son. They will call
Him Immanuel, which means, "God is with us."
Matthew 3:3/Mark 1:3/Luke 3:4-6/John
1:23/Isaiah 40:3 - Someone is shouting in the desert,
"Prepare a road for the Lord; make a straight path for our God to travel."
Matthew 3:1-3 NIV - John the Baptist came, preaching in
the desert of Judea and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of
heaven is near." -
This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah, "A voice
of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord; make straight
paths for Him.'"
Matthew 12:3-8 NIV - He (Jesus) answered, "Haven't you
read what David did when he and his companions ere hungry? He entered
the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread, which was
not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. Or haven't you
read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple desecrate the
day and yet are innocent? I tell you that one greater than the temple is
here.
If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not
sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent, for the Son of Man is
Lord of the Sabbath."
Matthew 12:21/Isaiah 42:4
-
On Him all people will put their trust.
Matthew 12:15-21 NIV - Jesus withdrew from that place. Many
followed Him, and He healed all their sick, warning them not to tell who He was.
This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah, "Here is
My servant Whom I have chosen, the One I love, in whom I delight; I will put My
Spirit on Him, and He will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not
quarrel or cry out; no one will hear His voice in the streets. A bruised
reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out, till He
leads justice to victory. In His Name the nations will put their hope."
Matthew 13:14-15/Mark 4:12/Luke 8:10/John
12:40/Acts 28:26-27/Isaiah 6:9-10 - "This people will listen and listen,
but not understand; they will look and look, but not see, because their minds
are dull. They have stopped up their ears, and have closed their eyes.
Otherwise, their eyes would see, their ears would hear, their minds would
understand, and they would turn to Me, says God, and
I would heal them."
Matthew 13:11,14-15 NIV
- He (Jesus) replied...""In
them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, 'You will be ever hearing but
never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For
this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with
their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with
their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and
I would heal them.'"
Matthew 15:8-9/Mark 7:6-7/Isaiah 29:13
-
"These people," says God,..."honor Me with their words, but their heart is rally
far away from Me. It is no use for them to worship Me, because they teach
man-made rules and laws."
Matthew 15:3,7-9 NIV
- Jesus replied, "You
hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you.
'These
people honor Me (God) with
their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. They worship Me in vain;
their teachings are but rules taught by men.'"
Matthew 21:16/Psalm 8:2
- You
(God) have trained children and babies to offer perfect praise.
Matthew 21:16 NIV - Jesus replied, "Have
you never read, 'From the lips of children and infants You have ordained praise.'"
Luke 4:4 NIV
- Jesus
answered, "It is written, 'Man does not live on
bread alone.'"
Luke 4:8 NIV -
Jesus answered, "It
is written, 'Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.'"
Luke 4:18/Isaiah 61:1
-
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has chosen Me to bring good news
to the poor. He has sent Me...to proclaim liberty to the captives and
recovery of sight to the blind.
Luke 4:16-21 NIV - He went to Nazareth, where He had been
brought up. On the Sabbath day He went into the synagogue, as was His
custom. He stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was
handed to Him. Unrolling it,
He found the place where it is written, "The
Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to
the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and
recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year
of the Lord's favor." The He rolled up the scroll, gave it back
to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were
fastened on Him. He began by saying to them, "Today
this scripture is fulfilled in you hearing."
John 12:38/Isaiah 5:10
- Lord, who
believed the message we told?
John 12:37-40 NIV - Even after Jesus had done all these
miraculous signs in their presence, they still would not
believe in Him.
This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet, "Lord, who has
believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"
For this reason they could not believe, because as Isaiah says elsewhere,
"He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see
with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn- and (so) I would
heal them.
Acts 2:19-20/Joel 2:30-31
- There will
be blood, fire, and thick smoke.
The sun will be darkened and the
moon will turn red as blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord
comes.
Acts 2:25-38/Psalm 16:8-11 -
I saw the Lord before me at
all times. He is near me. I will not be troubled, so I am filled
with gladness, and My words are full of joy. I, mortal though I am, will
rest assured in hope, because You will not abandon Me in the world of the dead.
You will not allow Your faithful Servant to rot in the grave. You have
shown Me the paths that lead to life. Your presence will fill Me with joy.
Acts 2:14,16-36 NIV -
Peter stood up with the 11, raised
his voice and addressed the crowd... This is what was spoken by the prophet
Joel, "In the last days, God says, 'I will pour
out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy.
Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams.
Even on My servants, both men and women, I will pour out My Spirit in those
days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and
signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun
will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great
and glorious day of the Lord. Everyone who called on the name of the Lord
will be saved.'"
Men of Israel, listen to this. Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by
God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through Him,
as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God's set
purpose and foreknowledge. You with the help of wicked men put Him to
death by nailing Him to the cross. But God raised Him from the dead,
freeing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep
its hold on Him.
David said (prophesied) about Him, "I
saw the Lord always before Me. Because He is at My right hand, I will not
be shaken. Therefore My heart is glad and My tongue rejoices. My
body also will live in hope, because You will not abandon Me to the grave, nor
will You let Your Holy One see decay. You have made known to Me the paths
of life. You will fill me with joy in Your presence."
Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was
buried, and his tomb is here to this day, but he was a prophet and knew that God
had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his
throne. Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ,
that He was not abandoned to the grave, nor did His body see decay. God
has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.
Exalted to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised
Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and her. David did not
ascend to heaven. Yet he said, "The Lord said to MY Lord, 'Sit
at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet'"
Therefore let all Israel be assured of this (that) God has
made this Jesus, Whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Commentary
One will note that Jesus Christ is the
fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy regarding a Jewish Messiah; but many
Jews have not seen the Messiah manifested in their lives in their generation.
They have not been told. The veil has not been removed. They have
not believed. They have not received. The same applies to healing.
Unless one has read or been told that Jesus Christ both saves and heals, he will
not likely experience a miracle, even though he wants one...
A manifestation of Jesus in our life is like a
marriage. We can date someone, but until we have consummated the marriage
in the intimacy of the wedding chamber, we do not really "know" that person.
Even that is just the beginning, for marriage is a walk, a relationship.
So when we are pouting and quite depressed, because God is taking such a long
time to answer our prayer, remember that we are already saved. We are
already healed - 2000 years ago. Let us not miss our miracle by our
constant asking. We have our miracle. Stand up and proclaim it - to
ourselves and to our enemy, the Devil who wants us just where we are - like an
ostrich with our head in the hole in the ground. Do not be double minded.
Do not faint. Do not quit. Thank Him for what He already did on the
cross 2000 years ago. Thank Him in advance of the evidence you are seeking
- every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every month, and every
year. Praise Him until He reveals Himself to you, in this generation...
The angel Gabriel's announcement to Mary of the
forthcoming conception in her of the Messiah is equivalent to God's announcement
to us via Scripture (or any other means). Mary's acceptance of that
message is equivalent to our acceptance. It is only one's belief in God's
message, that enables God to place His Son into our life, into our body.
That Life needs to grow inside us. It needs to be birthed. All this
takes time and our cooperation. Let us not abort His Life in us. Let
us believe.
