Exodus 15:25 NIV    He (God) said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His eyes, if you pay attention to His commands and keep all His decrees, I will not bring (allow) on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, Who heals you."

                                     The Living Bible translation of Isaiah 53 has an answer.

SCRIPTURE

ISAIAH 53 TLB    1Oh, how few believe it!  Who will listen?  To whom will God reveal His saving power. 2In god's eyes He (Messiah) was like a tender green shoot, sprouting from a root in dry and sterile ground.  In our eyes there was no attractiveness at all, nothing to make us want Him.  3We despised Him and rejected Him - a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief.  We turned our back on Him and looked the other way when He went by.  He was despised and  we  didn't care. 
4It was our grief He bore (and) our sorrows that weighed Him down.  5He was wounded and bruised for our sins.  He was beaten that we might have peace.  (Spiritual insight=We obtained peace the moment He was beaten.)  He was lashed-and we were healed!  (Spiritual insight = We were healed the moment He was lashed.)  6We-every one of us-have strayed away like sheep!  We, who left God's path to follow our own.  Yet God laid on Him the guilt and sins of every one of us!
7He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He never said a word.  He was brought as a lamb to the slaughter.  As a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He stood silent before the ones condemning Him.  8From prison and trial they led Him away to His death.  Who among the people of that day realized it was their sins that He was dying for-that He was suffering their punishment?  9He was buried like a criminal, but in a rich man's grave.  He had done no wrong and had never spoken an evil word.
10It was the Lord's good plan to bruise Him and fill Him with grief.  However, when His soul had been made an offering for sin, then He shall have a multitude of children, many heirs.  He shall live again and God's program shall prosper in His hands.  11When He sees all that is accomplished by the anguish of His (Messiah's) soul, He shall be  satisfied.  Because of what He has experienced, My righteous servant shall make many to be counted righteous before God, for He shall bear all their sins. 12Therefore, I will give Him the honors of One Who is mighty and great, because He has poured out His soul unto death.  He was counted as a sinner.  He bore the sins of many and He pled with God for sinners.

In the Old Testament Job understood this. 
He daily apologized both for his own sins and for the sins of his children.

SCRIPTURE           

Job 1: 5   Early in the morning he (Job) would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them (his children) thinking, 'Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.'  This was Job's regular custom.     (This is a scriptural example for us to follow, to confess both our sins and the sins of our family members.)

Catholics who attend daily mass experience a glimpse of what this is all about.  We know that we can     confess our own sins, but  few of us have been  taught that we can also stand in the gap for others.  Many deliverance ministries teach that we need to confess, repent of, reject and renounce our own sins AND the sins of our ancestors.

This is because disease sometimes gets into our DNA and is inherited.

Think On These Things

Am I responsible or guilty for what my relatives have done?
If I am a German, am I responsible for killing the Jews?
If I am an American, am I responsible for killing the American Indians?
If I am Irish, am I responsible for killing a Protestant or Catholic?
Are not the sins of our ancestors on their own heads
or am I still condemned or under their curse?
Have I done a family tree, a genealogy research?
Does not my blood line go back to many countries?
Does not my blood line go back to Adam and Eve?
Therefore, could not my ancestors be responsible for the death of Christ?
Scripture says each generation and each individual is responsible for the death of Christ.
Scripture says that all are born in sin, and thus are under a curse.
The only way to keep curses from entering into the next generation is to REPENT for the past.

You see, Satan, our enemy has a legal foothold in the door of our DNA, until we evict him.
Anything that is inherited, seen in prior generations, such as insanity, needs to be evicted.
Sometimes we need to go to war, because the squatters think they have an entitlement.
"Please, God, help me," will NOT work.  Jesus already defeated Satin, sin and disease. 
Now it is OUR work to finish the job.  The "to do" list is in our lap.
We need to act, in the name of Jesus.
We need to command, in the name of Jesus.
We need to walk on our knees in prayer.
We need to eat the word of God daily.
We need to enlist the help of angels and the Holy Spirit.
We need to enlist the help of others (friend/family/professional) to create an offensive army.

NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE

Matthew 9:2-7 NIV    Some men brought to him a paralytic, lying on a mat.  When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Take heart, son.  Your sins are forgiven."  At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, "This fellow is blaspheming!"  Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why do you entertain evil thought in your hearts?  Which is easier to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'?  (I spoke these words,) So that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins..."  Then he said to the paralytic, "Get up.  Take your mat and go home."  The man got up and went home.  (Spiritual insight = Here we get a hint that sin and disease are related.  However, if we had grown up Jewish we would have already known this connection.)

John 5:2-8 NIV    In Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate there is a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by 5 covered  colonnades.  Here a great number of disabled (blind, lame, paralyzed) people used to lie.  One who was there had been an invalid for 38 years.  When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, He ask him, "Do you want to get well?"  "Sir," replied the invalid, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred.  While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me."  Jesus said to him, "Get up.  Pick up your mat and walk."  At once the man was cured.  He picked up his mat and walked.
John 5:13-14 NIV  The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.  Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again.  Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."  (Spiritual insight =  Sin was the root cause of his infirmity.)

James 5:14-16 NIV    Is any one of you sick?   He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.  The prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up.  If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.  Therefore, confess your sins to each other, and pray for each other, so that you may be healed.  (Spiritual insight =  Unconfessed sin may be the root cause of an infirmity.)

Isaiah 53:3 NIV  He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.  Like one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.
Isaiah 54:4-6 NIV  "Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame.  Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.  You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.  For your Maker is your husband, the Lord Almighty is His name.  The Holy One of Israel is your redeemer; His is called the God of all the earth.  The Lord will call you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit, a wife who married young, only to be rejected," says your God.
Isaiah 61:7 NIV  "Instead of their shame My people will receive a double portion and instead of disgrace (embarrassment/humiliation) they will rejoice in their inheritance."

Ephesians 1:3-6 NIV    Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.  For He chose us in Him before the (foundation) creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight.  In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will, to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given (accepted) us in the (Beloved) One He loves.

Chapter 10 Speaking in Tongues   Being overly scrupulous, contending that every root issue needs to be uprooted, continually looking for demons/defects, continually repenting for past sins, continually looking at self as sinful/unworthy - is contradicting God - in one's false belief that "the blood of Jesus does not make them clean enough...
Without the (baptism of the) Holy Spirit, religious faith runs on a flat battery."  When people have a dead battery in their car of life, they tend to look at their own defects instead of to God.  The real problem would be the missing part, the Holy Spirit baptism, rather than a character defect or a demon.  It could be both, but without God we are dead indeed.  No car can run on a dead battery.
Without a car we are worse off.  Our spiritual car is our repenting for all ancestral and personal sins and asking Jesus to be our savior and lord.  Jesus always says, "Yes."

Throughout the book Hinson uses a technique of looking for the entry door/root cause of a problem. 
He tends to ask, "What at was happening in your life when this problem started?"  Hinson calls many of these roots, strongholds, and seldom considers them to be demons. Rather he tends to classify roots as sin/choices that contradict God's will/mind/heart.  For instance, he classifies one frequent root cause of anorexia and/or bulimia as rebellion.  He classifies "consequences of attitude/actions as symptoms" of rebellion.  He bases his anorexia/bulimia theory on Psalm 107:17-18 NIV  Some become fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.  They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.
The ideas contrary to God's ideas/spoken words under duress/vows may trigger a problem/disease.  Once we discover a lie, a belief that contradicts God, then we can verbally renounce, repent of, and reject it. 
If we become ill after participating in any of the forbidden acts listed in Deuteronomy, then we may have a clue to the root issue of our problem.  If we look closely, scripture frequently spells out what common consequence will result from what violation, as is illustrated in Psalm 107 above.  Thus, scripture is a superior medical diagnostic tool.
Finally, if in fact, the root problem is demonic (oppression/possession) then the individual will need to insist, "In the name of Jesus Christ, I command any unclean thing to leave me now and never return."
Better still, say it 3x. (#2) In the name of the Holy Spirit," I command any unclean thing to leave me now and never return!"

However many Nigerian Christians believed the body/mind/soul was one entity; they would go home and make a sacrifice to appease a(n evil) spirit causing an illness, when the missionaries only taught about the healing of the human spirit and not about the healing by Jesus of the body/mind (as evidenced/provided in the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  The natives may have recognized spiritual root issues, but seldom had mentors/teachers to show them how to root out their diseases.) The author shares that house windows were small to keep out evil spirits; that lack of sunlight encouraged the breeding of TB inside homes.  (There is still often a huge ideological divide between medical science, teaching of salvation of the soul + occasional miracles, and teaching of the baptism of the Holy Spirit with signs and wonders following.)
In Chapter 4 Lights in Ogoja - God Dey (God is in charge.) missionary Roberta Lautenschlager shares that many Nigerians believed in animism (the belief that evil spirits/powers live in trees/hills/rocks). In Ukunde the villagers worshiped various ranks of spiritual powers (strongmen with underlings), believed to be responsible for particular illnesses.  For mild illness, the villagers sacrificed rice in an outside clay pot.  For serious illnesses, villagers sacrificed a chicken or goat, according to what the traditional doctor dictated.

Subtitle/caption = Discover and destroy the major hindrance stopping you from entering the glorious manifestations of God.  They can be what we did or what we failed to do. Once we are born again we need to name specific sins of which the Holy Spirit surfaces onto our consciences.  These can be specific sins undealt with at the time we came to Christ or they can be specific ancestral/family sins.  We must from time to time as brought to the spotlight of the work of the Holy Spirit name and repent of individual specific sins.   For instance, we need to name each date with whom we had intercourse prior to marriage. We need to repent for each illegal/immoral sexual relationship. We need to loose ourselves from (cut all soul ties to) each individual.  We need to place that relationship under the blood of Christ.
All aborted children are in heaven and have forgiven us.  However, we need to repent of murder so that we may be reconciled, both to God and to the child.
Satin condemns us for sins for which we have already been forgiven, whereas God allows to surface issues that He needs to deal with in our lives.  Repentance allows the Holy Spirit to be our comforter and counselor.  The majority of secular and many spiritual counselors would have us regurgitate old issues, allowing negative emotions to reign.  God is tender and converts the negative into positive.  He makes lemonade out of lemons.  The Holy Spirit can do in a moment what counselors/doctors try to do over a lifetime.
Chapter 4 The Operation and Manifestation of Iniquity Iniquity Produces Spiritual Deafness -
"In the spiritual world, every sin grows from the root of iniquity.  It is very important to make a detailed (personal and family) list"  and repent.

publisher www.cookministries.com   Everything in life has a + and a -.  Wherever God is we will find a counterfeit.  Luckily God is always stronger, the one which the enemy copies!  Our children need to be aware of the tactics of the enemy in order to recognize and defend themselves.  We need to teach them how to pray in Doctor Jesus name and how to apply His superman blood.  We do not badger them with, "Never do this and never do that."  Instead we educate them, "Pot looks like this and smells like that; smoking/injecting illegal drugs opens self up to parasites/leeches/demons of addiction."  One of this book's many interesting bad guys is the Ouija board.  It seems that not only Christians, but also many in the occult, are VERY apprehensive about it.  That in itself should be a red flag before a bull!   It behooves parents to inform themselves annually, beginning at conception, to what spiritual dangers their children are being exposed - on TV, at movies, in music, on radio, in cartoons, on videos, at school, at dances, at their friends houses, in parks, 24/7!  The devil does NOT ring the front door bell and show you his ID; instead he sneaks in the back door or a window!   Suicide is rampant today; do not allow suicide to surprise your family; instead, be at communion daily waging warfare!  Preventative measures are a nuisance, but fixing a broken heart or a broken child is too little too late, taking years of mending/healing/fixing.  God can and will fix, but why allow the harm in the first place?  All the money in the world cannot fix a broken child.  Avoid single parent families at all costs, if at all possible.  Avoid 2 working parents if at all possible.  These are dangerous times.  Adopt a church, or have a church adopt your family.  Grow  together; pray together.

Chapter 4 Sour Grapes section Recognizing Generational Iniquity notes that, "When we notice things that we have struggled with  throughout our lives emerging in our children, we must...repent...to the Lord and to...our children."  After sinning we are to say, "I was wrong.  What I just did was a sin.  I'm sorry.  I have asked Jesus to forgive me.  I asked Him to forgive me for getting angry  (or _______ ) with you.  Will you also forgive me?  When I repent to my children, I don't tell them I made a mistake.  I tell them I sinned...Sin is a choice...Whether it came from our ancestors or from us, we need to repent of it; otherwise it can pass through us to our sons and daughters...I am teaching them, first, that anger (or other sin) has no right in my life as their father, and second, that it has no right in their lives."  (We can back that up to them by quoting relevant scripture.  Eg. Do not let the sun go down on your anger.)
Jeremiah 31:29 The fathers have eaten sour grapes and the children's teeth are set on edge.  "Sour grapes...are... generational sins or familiar spirits." 
"God's purposes aren't fulfilled by people who know His will.  God's purposes are fulfilled by people who do His will."
Innocent youth who entrust their spiritual life to uninformed/undisciplined/dangerous parents/providers are as susceptible to harm as is a baby bird with its mouth wide open waiting for a worm and instead getting meatloaf from an innocent child.  The devil is a roaring lion and lions love easy unprotected prey. Children are empty cans waiting to be filled up with garbage or with the Holy Spirit. Let us become aware of, claim, and pass on the spiritual blessings/benefits/talents/gifts/skills of our genealogy.
Chapter 6 No More Sour Grapes!  When we clean up the act of both our ancestors and ourselves (through repentance and binding), we save our own children "from having to fight the sins that beset their ancestors."  "When you start acting like your mother acted, you had better stop blaming your mother; stop blaming the devil and just...repent...Negative generational... power was broken  the moment you gave your heart to Jesus.  The curse is gone.  It did not get through the bloody veil of Calvary.  If, however, you choose to act out negative behavior, you will create a whole new curse."
Father God, in Jesus name, having repented for all known and unknown sins in my blood line, "I refuse the right of passage of anything that would want to kill, steal, or destroy me or my children.  Forgive the (cause of, participation in or perpetuation of any family curse)...Lord; cover it (with Your blood, stop it permanently,) and let Your blessing flow" as You continually impart Your mercy and mentoring unto each of us who claim You as our Father.  I bless and thank You.  Amen.

3. A curse can go down more than 4 generations.
If a sin is committed 100 generations back, it is empowered up to 4 generations. If that sin is repeated the next generation, it can go down another 4 generations (therefore now going down 5 generations). If the sin is empowered in the next generation, then it can go down another 4 generations - therefore, 6 generations from the original sin.
(Note: The Exodus text does not say that sins can ONLY go down 4 generations.)
So what do you do if you feel you have generational issues that need to be broken?
Ask the Lord to reveal any generational curse or sin issue.
Ask the Lord how many generations back in the family line this generational curse was first empowered.
Ask the Lord what happened to empower that event.
Renounce, repent, and ask forgiveness for any sin committed in the family line. This is called identification repentance.
Ask the Lord Jesus to cover the family line and the memory or incident with His blood.
Renounce and repent for sin related to that event.
Ask the Lord to break all ungodly connections from that event in the generational line to the present.
Demand (in the name of  Jesus that) all evil leave and go wherever Jesus commands them.
End the session with prayer for the cleansing and protection of the Holy Spirit."

He became involved in it and worked at discipling new converts. However, he and his friends sensed spiritual needs in their own lives. And so in the summer of 1906 they spent their summer holiday at the Llandrindod Wells convention (a Welsh equivalent to the English Keswick Conference) where Howells made a pivotal decision.
From the first meeting, Howells was deeply moved.
The realization dawned on him that the Holy Spirit was a person, and not an ‘influence.’ In his words:
'He said to me, "As the Savior had a body, so I dwell in the cleansed temple of the believer. I am a Person. I am God, and I am come to ask you to give your body to Me that I may work through it. I need a body for My temple, but it must belong to Me without reserve, for 2 persons with different wills can never live in the same body. Will you give me yours? This precipitated a 5-day struggle in Mr. Howells. From the 1st, he realized it was an unconditional surrender, of which he said:
'I had received a sentence of death, as really as a prisoner in the dock. I had lived in my body for 26 years, and could I easily give it up....I wept for days. I lost 7 pounds....Nothing is more real to me than the process I went through for that whole week. The Holy Spirit went on dealing with me, exposing the root of my nature which was self, and you can only get out of a thing what is in its root. Sin was canceled, and it wasn’t sin He was dealing with; it was self'...
Some of the things he (Howells) came to a point of surrender over:
1. His love of money: 'The Lord told him that He would take out of his nature all taste for money and any ambition for the ownership of money.'
2. His choice in making a home: 'I saw I could never give my life to another person, to live to (for) that one alone."
3. His ambition: 'Supposing he had a mission in a town and another mission opened in the same place; if there was jealousy between the 2, and it was better for the town only to have one, then it would be his which would have to go.'
4. His right to a good reputation: 'As he was thinking of men of the Bible who were full of the Holy Ghost, and particularly John the Baptist, the Lord said to him, "Then I may live through you the kind of life I lived through them."'
Finally on Friday of that week he came through.
The book continues with stories of how God worked through this man teaching him faith and intercession as he prayed for the sick, prayed for the salvation of friends and acquaintances, gave up raising his own son to work as a missionary, traveled without any money in his pocket, bought estates, established a Bible school, and prayed for international events, especially during the World War II. Chapter 1 My Eyes Were Opened  "The Lord was actually causing (allowing/encouraging/permitting) seeds of corruption that existed within my soul to to germinate and bud, so they could be exposed and dealt with.  Bob advised, 'The tares of your soul are blossoming; the Lord is sending the angels to gather them and remove them by the roots to be burned.'"  (Spiritual insight.  Be reminded that God allowed evil to arise and wound Jesus, in order to accomplish His ultimate purposes.)

Chapter 4 The Transition shares that mantles/destinies have been abandoned due to ignorance and lack of intimacy with the Trinity.  However, we can pick up those lost purposes, as we the bride of Christ chase after the Groom. 
Menacing bullies/tormentors/demons can intimidate us; but when we wake up/mature spiritually, we recognize that they have in fact become steps on which we climb into the authority of God, in Jesus Christ.  Life's past thorns have become a crown of triumph, as did Messiah's thorny path and crown.  A Jew becomes a jewel.  A lemon becomes lemonade.  Clay into bricks.  God sometimes tricks the trickster.  Hooray.
