Matthew 12:43-45 NIV    "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.  Then it says, 'I will return to the house (person) I left.'  When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied (by the Holy Spirit), swept clean and put in order.  Then it goes and takes with it 7 other spirits more wicked than itself; they go in and live there.  The final condition of that man is worse than the first." (Spiritual insight=With the Holy Spirit as tenant in our body we are safe. 
                             With an evil spirit as tenant in our body, we are in danger.)  
Matthew 13:27-28 NIV    27"The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, did not you sow good seed in your field?  Where then did the weeds come from?'  28He replied, 'An enemy did this.'"
(Spiritual insight = Jesus on the cross provided 3 things - salvation, healing, deliverance. Our invisible enemy Satan will do everything he can to interfere with our knowing about these and/or taking/receiving/ appropriating them for ourselves.  Satan is the root cause of all problems.  Everything else in the flesh are only weeds/symptoms/evidence that the enemy is on our turf.   Mental illness is just one more symptom/lie of Satan that we can recognize/refuse/reject.  We can declare just the opposite.  IN THE NAME OF JESUS, I am healed.  In the name of Jesus, I do NOT have mental illness.  In the name of Jesus, I reject and refuse mental illness.  In the name of Jesus, each minute, hour, day, month, year, I am more and more free from fear/shame/lust /oppression/depression/loneliness/thought disorder/medication side effects/the need to be medicated/dependent on others.  In the name of Jesus Christ, I bind all that is not of God and loose all this is of God.  Father, I bless the name of Your son, Jesus.)
Matthew 16:23 TPNT   He, turning about, said to Peter, "You must go behind Me, Satan!  You are tempting Me, because you (Satan speaking through Peter) are not thinking (speaking/agreeing with) the things (mind) of God but the things (thoughts/ ideas/reasonings/lies) of men (human nature/demons/evil)."

Mark 9:25 TPNT    When Jesus saw that the crowd was running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit by saying to it, "Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, you must come out from him at once and never again can you enter into him." 11/20/2007 (Spiritual insight = We can speak what Jesus speaks - with the same results!) Mark 9:28-29 TPNT  28His disciples asked Him privately, "Why were we not able to cast it out?"  29He said to them, "This kind is in no way able to come out except in prayer (and fasting)."

2nd Corinthians 10:3-5    The weapons we fight with are not weapons of the world.  On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish (demonic) strongholds (of disease, death, etc).  We demolish (demonic/false) arguments and every (demonic) pretension (delusion/lie) that sets itself up against (contradicts) the knowledge (Word) of God (in Holy scripture), and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (Spiritual principle = Many thoughts are not from us, nor God, but from Satan.  Once we recognize this, we then can exercise our NO muscle to reject such unhealthy and dangerous thoughts.)

Galatians 6:9    Let us not grow weary...In due season we shall reap, if we do NOT lose heart.

Ephesians 4:26    Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
Ephesians 4:31-32    Get rid of all (evil spirits of) bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every for of malice.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.  The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

2nd Peter 2:20 NIV    If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than whey were at the beginning.

1st John 4:1 NAB Beloved, do NOT trust every spirit (rabbi/pastor/teaching/idea/concept/belief/ thought/feeling/emotion) but put the spirits to a test to see if they belong to God.
1st John 4:3-4     Every spirit that does NOT acknowledge Jesus is NOT from God.  This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.  You dear children are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than (Satan) the one who is in the world. (Asking God the Father, Jesus the son, and the Holy Spirit to take up residence in our hearts, provides the help and protection we need for the rest of our lives.)

Revelation 12:17       The dragon (Satan) was enraged at the woman (Mary mother of Jesus) and went off to make war against the rest of her (spiritual) offspring - those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus, (that He is the same yesterday/today/tomorrow). 
(Spiritual insight = We are not at war with disease and evil but with evil spirits who are out to destroy mind, body & soul..)
Revelation 21:7 KJVer    He who overcomes shall inherit all things.  I will be his God and he shall be My son.

COMMENTARY

Father Robert DeGrandis in The Ten Commandments of Prayer recommends that we pray in tongues to allow the Holy Spirit to minister to the root cause (such as deep emotional problems) of physical ailments. Any one who has been baptized in the Holy Spirit can pray for himself or for another this way, using tongues (another language; sometimes called the language of angels; a second known language, but unknown to the speaker).

With emotions, we find that they are layered like the peel of an onion.  Each level brings tears.  Each level needs to be dealt with.  Eventually, there will be a root cause, which also will need to be dealt with.  Otherwise our emotions will be bi-polar, up and down, tossed like a salad.  Father DeGrandis in The Gift of Miracles contends that "if a root cause is not healed, an illness can return."  On the way to recovery it is OK to work with counselors, pastors, therapists, psychiatrists, doctors, nutritionists, and orthomolecular modalities; just do not omit Doctor Jesus, for He is the key ingredient in the salad of life.  Many physical and mental healings are progressive, step by step, as we mature emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.

Negative emotions (such as fear to run in front of a car, or anger such as Christ had one day at the local temple) are normal human, often healthy, reactions to life.  However, "excessive, ongoing " negative emotions are a curious thing.  They can be called bad feelings, heavy weights, or oppressions because they manifest themselves as not only mental anguish and fogging/shutting down of the mind, but also as physical pressure, forcing some to be bedridden.  They are from our enemy, Satan.  We do not need to think that our emotions are us. We have legal permission from Christ to reject them, because He healed all our infirmities 2000 years ago.  Unless we, like a sponge, absorb His word day and night, we will not realize, experience in our lifetime, that He has already provided a sound mind for us, regardless of what the medical community says.

There is physical pain but also emotional pain.  One can have a broken leg or a broken heart.  We can have a broken relationship between us and a friend, relative, or God.  Not only will we be perhaps lonely, but also burdened down as though we have a hole in our heart, an emptiness, a longing, or perhaps an invisible hole full of puss of which we cannot rid our self.  Scripture says not to take communion until we have reconciled with a brother who has something against us.  However, we may be the injured party.  In that case we need to forgive and give our hatred or bitterness to God before we take communion, even if that anger is towards God.  Scripture says many are sick and die because they take communion without first forgiving.  Once our conscience is clean,  then it is time to tell the accuser in our mind to get lost, as we have fulfilled the demands of God, as best we know how.

There are emotions resulting, not from what we do, not from what has been done to us, not from our circumstances, but from what we have inherited.  A good example of this is depression.  Often manic depression is inherited from one generation to the next.  If you see this is your family, you can realize right away that your "disease" is NOT your fault.  However, it is our fault, once we realize that it is inherited and we then do nothing about it.  Then at that point we are in agreement with the disease and are guilty, for not only are we keeping it, but possibly passing it on to the next generation, if we have or will have children.  Therefore, it is imperative to come against this illness IN THE NAME OF JESUS.
At such time we find the root cause of any illness or of any emotion that is creating havoc in our lives, then we need to root it out by prayer, fasting, communion, in addition to any medical, pastoral, family, or community supports necessary to keep us a content, safe, functioning and contributing member of society.

Joyce Meyer www.joycemeyer.org discusses Luke 5:4-5 KJV  He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch."  Simon answered, "Master, we have toiled all night and have taken nothing.  Nevertheless, at Your word I will let down the net."  
When Jesus told the disciples at the end of a long night to go back out and fish again, the disciples may have grumbled in their heart because they did not FEEL like obeying.  Joyce reminds us to keep on keeping on, to not quit.  Many champions do not win because of their own greatness, but because so many have dropped out or quit.  Jesus could have quit too.  Instead He said to His dad in heaven, "Not My will but Yours be done."  There is a saying, " When the going gets tough, the tough get going."  It is not even the going, but the NOT quitting, not committing suicide, not taking that one cigarette/dope/drink/cookie - whatever is our temptation, our false comforter.

Joyce would mumble to Jesus that she wished that sometimes her whole family did not have to work for her.  Jesus responded that He feels that way sometimes when His family works for Him.  Joyce wished that sometimes her kids would get along more.  Jesus responded that sometimes He wishes that too,  when His own kids do not get along.  Joyce murmured to Jesus about what she was going to get out of this not quitting.  Jesus responded that she had Him.  Jesus had her reflect on Hebrews 9 and to view the human body as a trinity.  The flesh as the outer court of the temple.  The soul/mind/emotions/heart as the inner court.  The spirit as the most holy place.  Scripture reminds us that we are the temple of God.  We are to give less heed to the outer courts and more to the most holy place (denying the flesh/negative thoughts, getting out of bed when we feel like staying in bed, going to work when we feel ill, not saying mean things when we feel angry, saying NO when another is taking advantage, etc.)

Many women take on the family name of the man they marry.  That very day they are the same biologically, but not legally or spiritually.  Scripture says that the 2 become 1 flesh.  Legally the woman is recognized as partner and heir of her mate.  When God forgives our sins, He does NOT remember them, according to scripture.  He sees us as legally and spiritually without sin, even though in the flesh we are the same old, same old person.  However, our enemy Satin will take advantage of us, if we do not understand or fail to claim our legal and spiritual rights.  Satin will whisper, reminding us of all our past forgiven sins and shortcomings.  We not only have permission to defend ourselves, we have the mandate and authority to do so, lest we relapse, until such time that we finally recognize who we are in Christ.  Then the Holy Spirit living inside us will empower us to do what we ourselves could never do, begin to recognize and reject the enemy.  Remember, Satin lost the battle 2,000 years ago, but he will not tell us that.  Once we recognize that, we as in a football game, switch from the defensive to the offensive side.  Not only that, the game is over for Satin.  The ball is in our hands.  The victory is ours (mine and God's).

BEWARE Oh normal healthy superior relatives.  Those of us, who have NOT been labeled with a so called mental illness, are not "out of the woods", nor one step from a "pothole" or "pitfall".  The world is inhabited by demons, who are the enemy of God our entire lifetime.  Anything which will help the mentally ill stay in recovery, will also help us who are not yet "labeled".  The major activity of a spirit is flooding our minds with thoughts.  We daily, constantly, need to capture and filter every  thought. We identify each thought to see if it is ours, the enemy's or God's.  We  reject any though which does not agree with scripture.  We reject any enemy thought.  We send it back to its sender.  We refuse to concentrate on it any longer.  We change the subject.  Initially this can be a full time job.

If God is not a liar, then we have alot of work to do.  Ida's husband Frank Hammond will not minister to any schizophrenic who does not have a personal relationship with Jesus.  Is this a sin?  The reason for such a strong stand is 4 fold.  A person may become worse.  2nd, the person cannot defend himself when the disease/demons try to return.  3rd, the illness/demons may not leave.  4th, the ministry process can be long, often up to 1 year.  Scripture (Luke 11:24-26) says that if the house/mind is empty, the departing demon will bring back 7 more.  The mind/soul/body needs to have the Holy Spirit Who is able to prevent the reentrance of a demon.  In addition, the demons living in the person have a legal right to stay as long as the Holy Spirit does not have title to the person.  Legal title is given to God when one asks God to forgive all his sins and asks Jesus Christ to be his savior.  Then the demons become squatters and need to be evicted.  Now the demons have to obey when they are commanded to leave and not return.  God took title to our bodies when Christ crushed Satan under His feet on the cross 2000 years ago.  When God becomes our father, we inherit all His assets.  However, we need to claim them, sometimes in battle.  The deliverance ministry is part of that battle needed to set captives free.  Schizophrenia is one of the most difficult psychiatric illnesses, but there is a cure and there is a doctor.  The doctor's name is Jesus Christ.  The cure is a 3 step process.  1-Receive Jesus as savior.  2-Receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  3-Do spiritual warfare before/during/after deliverance.  That means to renounce delusions, and to fall out of agreement with the lies of the demons.  This needs to be done out loud and often as the enemy assaults the mind with wrong thoughts/tapes that run in the head, that are out of agreement with scripture.  For instance, rejection is a major lie, so any perceived rejection must be rejected.  This is a war!

Hammond notes that we need to speak out the name OR the designation/doing of each demon, before it will leave, because:  1-The demon will not likely leave, otherwise.  2-The delivered person will be able to recognize which demons to reject/prevent from returning. 3-There may be variations of the same problem.  For instance, there is a demon of rejection and a demon of fear of rejection.  Regarding designation, we can say, "I bind/command you spirit of rejection," or we can say, "I bind/command you demon that is causing _____ to feel rejection."  Always bind or command "in the name of Jesus"!

One of the major tricks of the enemy is to barrage us with thoughts which are tied into emotions,  especially negative emotions, and in particular emotions which "attack" self.  Notice the word attack.  Right away we notice that an attack is not a thing, but a live entity, whether a person or an evil spirit.  For example, we can experience fear/panic/terror as an emotional weight or adrenalin rush.  When we are not "overcome" by a flood of emotions, often associated with past flashbacks, rather than right now, then from time to time, we can stop, look at, and filter out unwanted harmful thoughts and ideas that do not contribute to our present well being.

Fighting our/my/your demons can be a figure of speech, for we all struggle with temptations, the flesh, disease, and aging.  Addictions are particularly bothersome.  Addictions to bad habits, food, chocolate, coffee, medications, illegal drugs, alcohol, porn (soft or hard), sex, etc is a battle/war.  In our mind and in our body there is a constant preoccupation and struggle to not do/think something.  To humans, these demons are real, whether in our mind or in our body.  To make matters worse, these demons can be evil spirits.  If and when they are, we need to call on Jesus Christ to send His warrior angles to come down and assist us.  Satan wants us to fight in our own strength.  God smiles when we quit and ask Him for help.  Jacob wrestled with an angel of the Lord an entire night, but would not let His angel go until God blessed him.  Many of us struggle, especially at night when our defenses are down due to medication and sleep.  The enemy has the upper hand terrorizing us at night when we are in bed asleep.  Therefore, read aloud the 91st Psalm before you go to sleep.  If you awaken, yell aloud, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.  Those words will terrorize your enemy.  The tide will change and you will begin to win your war. 
Genesis 32:24,26 NIV    24Jacob was left alone, and a man (holy angel/God/Messiah/Jesus) wrestled with him till daybreak... 26Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak."  But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."

It is OK to be the slow one, the one who makes mistakes, the turtle.  It is the turtle who won the race, instead of the rabbit, when the rabbit stopped to take a nap.  Hooray.  We will always win, as long as we never quit and never abandon God; for it is He Who provides the needed hug/kiss/stamina/hope/chance/ job/miracle -whatever it takes to get us over the finish line into victory.  It is OK to be nothing, as long as we rely on Something - Jesus.  It is He and not me, Who will provide.  Whatever we do, do for God.  Brush our teeth for God.  Shower for God.  Do our laundry for God.  Shovel snow for God.  He will inhabit our life with blessings.  He will inhabit the snow, the rain, the sunshine, and our smiles.  He will even inhabit our wallets.  If we have no job, put that money we find on the street in the church/temple offering plate and see what God will return to us.  God loves gratitude, but also expectation.  Test Him.

When others want to solicit your attention/income/addictions/time, one method is to sneak "cookies/ bait/spam/junk/virus infection/contamination" onto your e-mail site into the receive portion of incoming correspondence/pictures/mail.  We can notice that the "enemy" has done this.  If we are tempted/curious/uncertain, we can allow such messages/pictures to be downloaded onto our computer screen. We can choose to prohibit these messages/pictures/dangers from being downloaded, by instructing our software to reject future mail from that sender, by deleting before opening, or by deleting after we open the mail.  Regardless, we have the option to refuse and reject messages from the enemy.
Our spiritual enemy, Satan, will download thoughts of projection (fear of the future) or of rejection (replaying old thoughts/records of wrong done to or by us).  Boat-clubs will fly flags daily.  Each flag color designates current weather conditions.  To us, the past is forgiven, under the red blood of Jesus Christ.   If we or the enemy runs old films of the past, then that is a red flag warning, like that of the red flag in a bull pen.  IMMEDIATELY, we must erase/refuse/reject all past thoughts, lest the enemy charge like a bull into our present and gore/wound us.  Each time we replay old thoughts/memories/hurts we ignore/forget that Christ has already taken care of those issues.  Instead we are to thank/trust/praise Him.  Then we are to change our mind/thinking/thoughts.  Unless there is new sin to confess immediately, we are to focus on Jesus Christ Who lives in us to do what only He not we can do.  We are to go immediately and bless someone else.  We do not need money to bless.  God has given us a smile, hands, and feet.  Remember, He wants to bless others using you!
God impressed upon Joyce Meyer to replace rejected thoughts with His thoughts.  Replace the evil spirit with the Holy Spirit.  Daily feed your human spirit with Scripture.  Leave NO vacancy in your mind!  NEVER "meditate" in order to "empty your mind", making it available to the enemy. 
2nd, if we (through baptism) are dead and buried with Christ, then we can say to wrong/harmful/stinking thinking, "NO."  For instance, if in the morning when it is time to go to work, your body says , "I do not want to get out of bed," you can reply, "Flesh you are dead; get up, in the name of Jesus!"  If your eyes lust over a woman, you can reject those thoughts with, "No; I am dead; my eyes are dead; eyes, behold Your beauty (of creation/God)."
Father God, in the name of Your Son Jesus, we place an angel at the gate of our mind to filter out (capture and evict) all thoughts/voices/ pictures that contradict Your Word/heart/nature/intentions.  We ask Your Holy Spirit to give us the spiritual muscle to cooperate with Him to obey Your voice/wishes, that we might be a blessing to You and to others, that we might bring glory to Your name, that You might be pleased with us, and that we might fulfill our destinies for which You created us.  Thank You. Amen.

One of the reasons the enemy Satan and/or his accomplices get a foothold (ore even a toehold) in our lives is because they want/need to  manifest/dwell/live in the flesh.  In order to do that, they need to get inside (like a parasite) or at least oppress outside (like a bloodsucker). 
They insist on invading our air space, if at all possible.  We can object/refuse such maneuvers, but only if we know/recognize that resistance is our spiritual right/privilege/responsibility/opportunity/necessity/obligation.  As a dad or boss, we have authority (power of attorney) over our entire family and our real estate. We need to defend both ourselves and those whom we spiritually cover.  It may be that we also need to go on the offensive, the same way one would win a football game.  With disease, death and disaster, demons want to invade/infest/infect our flesh, our real estate, even our toys, and especially our children and mates.  The flesh is where demons gain much strength.  The flesh is what is easily intimidated and readily overcome, unless one enlist the power of the Holy Spirit and His angels.  When the enemy declares war, then resist.  Stop saying, "Yes," by ignoring demonic attacks/invasion!  Say, "No, in the name of Jesus."  Say, "Release me (or release them), in the name of Jesus."  "Roar" this for at least 40 days.

Many will...say...'He put a spell on me and this is my problem.'  Wrong!  Your mind which feared the curse, is (can be part of/contribute to) the problem - not (necessarily) the curse itself.  Some...think their problems exist because not all of their demons were cast out of them...In truth, such believers (may) have never been established (well rooted) in the knowledge of their own spiritual authority.  They (may) have never (or seldom) acted (independently) as children of God (citizens of heaven), but rather as babes (toddlers) in Christ, looking for others (to change their diapers/to babysit them) to win the victory that Christ has already won."
Chapter 13 Why Godly People Fall  "Eve...was deceived...There was nothing flawed about her personality
or character.  She was closer to God than we are...If it could happen to her, in her state of innocence and devotion, it could happen to anyone.  Scores of believers have fallen pray to Satan...One mistake could cost you your (spiritual) life."  Brown warns us to "watch" ourselves; that is for most of us to be accountable to another individual, especially a rabbi or pastor.  Satan works his best on those who are isolated.  "Satan can supernaturally barrage your mind with the most hideous of thoughts.  when this happens, it can make even the most stable Christian question his sanity.  Such thoughts do NOT originate in the heart of the believer...NOT all the thoughts in your mind are really your thoughts.  Some are actually coming form the voice of Satan...Many believers condemn themselves for thinking sinful thoughts.  They assume that (all) the (sinister) ideas originated within their own hearts."

"Almost all mental problems - from insanity to mild forms of compulsive behavior - are a result of accepting as true something that is imaginary."  Brown says there are 4 common delusional thoughts: (based on Satan's deceptions/lies to our minds.  NOTICE the word "I"!) 1.I have committed the unpardonable sin (or blasphemed the Holy Spirit).  2.I have demons who will not leave.  3.I have no hope to continue living.  4.I cannot forgive.  (We have not only bought into Satan's thoughts but have also attributed Satin's thoughts as being our own and often to our detriment have acted on them! #2 could be true.  However, there is always a fixable reason, a legal grounds, why demons are temporarily there as squatters/trespassers/illegal aliens.  Regarding #1, Brown contends that one's confession of having sex with demons is a delusion.  NOT necessarily. If we have asked Jesus to be our savior and baptizer in the Holy Spirit, apologized to Him for any personal and family unforgiven/known/current sin, and are attempting to the best of our ability to not offend Him, then any condemnation from Satan is a big fat lie. Such lies also include that we have lost our salvation, that we did not really receive our salvation or baptism in the Holy Spirit in the first place, and that we are spiritual lepers outside the grace and help of the Trinity.  Such horror could be 'almost' a fatal wound to the heart, resulting in a broken heart, and loss of heart/hope.  However, notice the word "almost'.  Jesus is our MD and savior in all things.  Praise God.)
Chapter 15  How to Get Your Mind Back  #1 Recognize that nothing is greater than God.  #2 Uncover each lie you have believed and search Scripture to prove it wrong.  #3 Speak the Work of God to the stronghold, because God releases His power through your lips.  (Some problem areas or strongholds are sexual lusts, guilt, demons, suicidal thoughts, and unforgiveness; all these areas can be reduced and/or eliminated when pertinent/relevant scripture is continually quoted out loud.)
(If God does not heal/deliver us instantaneously, we will need to cooperate DAILY with the Holy Spirit and mature emotionally, physically, and spiritually for the rest of our lives.  Once we are medically discharged, we will need to pay attention to avoid a relapse.  Plug self into a convenient and healthy church.)

Regarding legal grounds for Satan to have permission to act.  "If I believe a lie of Satan and act upon that line in some behavior, I give him (legal) ground against me.  If I...give in to some fleshly sin problem and fail to claim my victory over the flesh (provided in Christ's death and resurrection), I give (legal) ground to Satan...Real (evil) spirit beings...have minds, wills, and emotions of their own.  They desire to cause you to feel with their emotions, think their thoughts, and (your) will to do what is their will.  They will be so clever as to make it almost impossible to separate your own mind, will and emotions from theirs."  Sometimes to obtain freedom from their captivity, invading oppressive "dictating powers" need to be bound in the name of Jesus and "dispatched to the place (pit/dry place) the Lord Jesus Christ sends them."
Chapter 7 There's Still a Place for Objective Doctrine  "It is NOT enough to know sound doctrine.  I must use it and apply it in my DAILY walk," especially in my "doctrinal praying,"  "All of our hard work, sincerity, and effort" is "not sufficient.  Only the absolute (scriptural) Truth of God applied (consistently) against the enemy" will prevail.  "1st we must resist" the enemy, per "James 4:7 and Peter 5:8-9."

Jesus was slandered/name-called for being born out of wedlock (John 8:41) and accused of being mentally ill (Matthew 12:24).  He was also mocked/questioned/doubted for knowing things (by the Holy Spirit) that he did not learn (by the mind/intellect) in school/temple (John 7:15).  In part, the accusers were right, for Jesus was conceived before his parents married; plus he did know/had-insight-into spiritual things that normally only the rabbis and prophets rather than the commoner knew/had access to.  Jesus can identify with us who are maligned.  More importantly, He can and will fix us, when we are ready to become a nobody, and allow Him to become a somebody in our lives.  "God does much with little, most with least, and everything with nothing."

Nonetheless, He, the head, needs all His body parts, 2 legs, 2 arms, 2 eyes, etc.  Each individual needs, not only God but also, others.  One must NOT live in spiritual isolation.  One needs a spiritual family.

Chapter 10 Walking the Land  "God...can give us back again wasted years, but He will not do it until we admit that we have wasted the years...God...told me...'You will have (to confess) the truth that you have missed My will because of your pride and rebellion'.  There are many people...wanting to cover up mistakes where they have missed God...The truth involves taking blame.  If we do not have the truth (root cause/problem) over past failure (exposed and removed), we will go in a continuous round of the  recurring issue...round and round, like the children of Israel did in the wilderness for 40 years...We may blame the devil, our wives, our circumstances, but until we take the blame for our own (part of the) failure, we will never get anywhere with God... Esau sought his lost birthright with tears but did not find it." 
It seems that Arthur differentiates between thoughts and actions.  God can see our motives, but people see our actions. With Arthur, unbelief and pride apparently do not fall into the sin category, but rather the motive category, where God searches the heart. (Sometimes it is the right motive, but the wrong act, or wrong time, because we are acting out of our own need/idea or the need/idea of another, rather than out of obedience to the will, command and timing of the Lord.  Additionally, we have the problem of incorrect perception, which is often the case with mental illness.  Until such time that one is off his medication, working sufficiently to pay all his own bills, and not dependent on another in any capacity, then one should have/submit to at least a spiritual guardian, such as a rabbi, priest, pastor daily/weekly/monthly/annually as the need arises.  Perhaps this could be by contract with such as a health care proxy/psychiatric medical power of attorney.  However, this too can be abused, so stay plugged into the church which contributed the most to your being free from your illness, so they can daily intercede for your wellbeing and visit you often, even if it is in the hospital.)

Chapter 5 The School of Andrew shares that many still live with their "old minds" after receiving forgiveness and salvation from Jesus.  This spiritual immaturity is a set up for relapse.  One needs to read Scripture and pray daily, plus have regular ongoing Christian fellowship to renew the brain (DNA/cells)
and  (retrain/reeducate) the mind (thoughts), both spiritually and physically.  Rules = Let your cup be half full rather than half empty; be/speak positive rather than negative.  "A man always acts according to his thoughts...God relates to each of us only through our thought life...Retrain your thought life...If you have inferiority consciousness, poverty consciousness, sickness consciousness, or failure consciousness, God can never work."  The Holy Spirit reminds us, "You are a child (a jewel) of the King, an important person.  Keep (thinking and) acting like the big shot (VIP/treasure/beloved person) you are."  Do not misinterpret trouble for God's abandonment.  All God's beloved disciples and prophets had many troubles. Often troubles help to build character.  Troubles are not punishment, but rather trials/tests.  Regardless whether the problems come from heaven or hell, the extra spiritual attention means we are something extra special to God and/or extra dangerous to Satan.  Do not be discouraged; instead rejoice.
Chapter 6 God's Address "Your God (Jesus/Holy Spirit) dwelleth in you with all His resources, power and authority; His address is in(side) you," to meet all your needs today, right now, if we permit Him and not muzzle Him.  First and foremost repent of and reject/refuse hatred, fear, inferiority, and guilt.  Condemnation of is Satan, whereas conviction is of the Holy Spirit and leads to healthy confession.

Chapter 18 Staying Free reminds us that after Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, he left, but only

A main item of discussion is that we are NOT to ask/beg/pray God to do what He has deputized us to do.  We, not God, are to repent, reject, refuse, bind, and cast out demons.  Yes, He and His angels will haul them off, but only as we SPEAK.  Remember that the mouth which speaks aloud scripture is the sword of the Holy Spirit.  Our mouth is our weapon and our tool in the hands of an angel.  Therefore let us always empower the heavenly host and never the enemy!  Remember to continually praise God regardless of our feelings, especially at night when nightmares love to attack.

When SOMETHING has a grip or strong hold on us, in all likelihood, it is a demon. We need to reject the spirit of rejection and rebel against the spirit of rebellion!  These invisible THINGS are NOT necessarily just feelings/mood swings/chemical imbalances that need to be medicated and confessed to a shrink.  In fact some of our root problems are just pain old unconfessed sin that needs to be repented of in the confessional.  That in itself will unload a ton truck of guilt off our backs.
FINALLY, when you say or hear another say, "Let me alone," then perhaps you can recognize that in all likelihood, it is the demon speaking, which does not want to be recognized nor cast out.

Conclusion.  It is important to seek a complete physical healing, but is it more important to seek the relationship with Christ, for which we were created from the foundation of the world.  Even if we do it to please God, we also need to do it for ourselves; for the sin/spiritual/root causes of the disease may come back upon us if we do not mature spiritually (pray/go to church/read the Bible, etc) and go back into our old wrong habits (friends/places/foods/relying on our emotions/feelings).

In war and in politics, to do nothing is to lose to the opposition/enemy.  The same law applies to the spiritual kingdom.  An unlocked door is an open door to the devil.  There is a saying, "See no evil.  Do no evil.  Speak no evil."  It can also mean stick your head, like an ostrich, into a hole in the ground, while the enemy loots and ravishes your family.  Whether or not we are at war with Satan, he is always at war with us.  To defend our family we need to come against him like a football player with aggression.  We need to see evil and speak against evil, using the words of scripture, which are alive and dangerous to the kingdom of Satan.

Science tells us that every thought we think leaves an impression on the brain cortex, the more repetitious, the more permanent.  These brain grooves are like those on a floppy disk and can affect thought patterns, emotions (personality), biochemistry (health), and behavior (character).  Thoughts can even affect the body (physical health).  They can even cause disease, such as stress causing a heart attack. Likewise thoughts such as prayer can cause health.  Refuse to harbor any rogue thought. Judas did not capture and reject/refuse his evil thoughts; Judas lost the best career in the universe, being one of Jesus' 12 original disciples.  He may not have recognized that his thoughts were from Satan. 
He certainly did not repent.  Instead he committed suicide.  Suicide got him into hotter trouble, hell...

Some suggestions:
Censor your TV, radio, magazines, books, movies, friendships, in addition to your thoughts...
Pray daily for the Lord God to filter your thoughts and put warrior angels round about to protect and help you.  Read Psalm 91 daily. 
Go to communion daily.  Attend church/synagogue weekly.  Do NOT isolate.  Stay in the company of uplifting, helpful, caring, holy individuals.
We cannot go it alone, but the Holy Spirit can go with us each day.  Ask Him.

Chapter 7 The College Boy Who Lost His Mind  shares that it is imperative (immediately after or preferably BEFORE ANY DELIVERANCE - BEFORE BEING LOOSED FROM THE ENEMY - BEFORE BEING LEFT ON ONE'S OWN) to have already set in place a ministry to which the delivered can/will go individually or go as a family/group for follow up, a place which has the knowledge, power, and obedience to the Trinity, able and willing to cast out demons, raise the dead, praise and worship, minister the baptism of the Holy Spirit, etc to keep its members/attendees full of the Holy Spirit so there is NO room for the evil spirits, only terror when demons come near.  (Additionally, the delivered needs to be taught in advance how to defend himself plus what demonic potholes to look out for.  Occult objects need to be destroyed and bedrooms need to be prayed over.)

This book is a pre-deliverance, deliverance, post-deliverance, and self-deliverance manual. 
One major self-defense against relapse is to forgive.  Forgive even those who do not come and ask for forgiveness.  If need be, forgive that person daily, as long as/whenever hate/bitterness/hurt/superiority/etc rises in your thoughts.  Heidler reminds us to recognize (asking the Holy Spirit to bring to our mind), repent of, confess, and renounce each sin of which we are aware.  (Do this at least yearly, plus before taking communion.  Scripture reminds us that many are sick, even unto death, as a consequence of receiving/taking holy communion improperly.)
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any bad strongholds.  Listen to scripture on tapes or read scripture out loud.  At the end of each chapter ask the question, "What is God's truth?"  Ask, "Am I obeying this truth?"  If the answer is no, immediately repent.  If the answer is, "No, BUT..." then you know you have a stronghold.  Demolish each stronghold by contradicting it out loud with the Word of God.  For instance, if you are too timid, speak, "God has not given me a spirit of timidity, but of power, love and a sound mind!" (If you are praying for another, replace the word me with that person's name.)  Do this day in and day out untill the Word of God accomplishes its work.  Once the stronghold is removed, repent - for what we have done wrong, failed to do, or what lie we have believed!
In addition to strongholds in the mind are strongholds in the heart (emotions).

Kraft reminds those who are mentally ill that they are NOT insane or incurable, but are likely oppressed by demons, as are many, including Christians and even pastors. Kraft cites the "worm theology" where man sees himself negatively as a worm;  Satan puts thoughts into our minds which we choose to accept as our own. 
Demons need a legal right to enter an open door into our lives.  Often that open door is a trauma or emotional wound that we have allowed to fester, rather than to forgive and go on with God. First we need to stop wallowing in our emotional garbage.  1st and foremost forgive. Get professional counseling,
if available, and continue ONLY IF it reduces/eliminates the bulk of your issues that interfere with your daily living. Demons will become weaker as we eliminate the emotional garbage that they feed on and take advantage of.  Then is is easier for us to tell them to go and never return (in the name of Jesus),
and easier for them to go, per Kraft's experience. 
Inheritance can be a legal passport for a demon.  That is why we need to confess AND renounce the sins
of our blood relatives, back to the time of Adam and Eve.  For each individual known sin (commission and omission) we need to repent and renounce. 
Demons prefer to torment/harass/destroy born-again Christians (rather than non-Christians) to get them
to question whether they are saved, sane, lovable, usable, and/or curable.  An oppressing demon when confronted may share that he could not get a stronger grip on a person who "is too close to Jesus/God" or that he is "in a mind but not within" a person/body.  If we are feeling oppressed, we can say aloud or under our breath, "If this is the enemy, stop it, in the name of Jesus!"
During ministry, when a demon or demons respond to a command, sometimes they use a person's voice, but if they are weak they will give the person impressions/thoughts.  At such time the person may be confused as to which words are his own and which are of the demon(s).  The  counselor will help sort that out.  The simplest way to sort through this, if you are alone, is to test the words/thoughts against scripture.  If the words/thoughts agree with scripture, they are likely of you or God.  When they disagree with scripture then they are apt to be emotional garbage that needs to be taken to Jesus or the demon(s) that feed on that garbage.  Since this is a spiritual discussion/response of a demon, it can bypass the mind, and not come to the person's attention until he has heard it with his own ears.

This book is a review of 12 healing ministries.  It concludes by warning pastors to implement relapse prevention.  Begin to build an immunity to the things that affect you negatively.  If something begins to bother you, or you begin to feel another "hit" in an area where you have been weak or tormented in the past, then start building the immunity in that particular area. Read the Bible, if possible daily. Find, memorize, and recite out loud scripture that applies to each area of your vulnerability.  (If you are Catholic, go to mass daily, because confession and communion terrorize the enemy.)  Surround yourself with people who love your Lord.  Go to church, Bible study, church groups, or any spiritual group where there are people who will love you and pray with you. When that "thing" tries to capture you, you will be able to sail your ship through it and not get dumped into the sea, like you did in the past.

(4) renounce (aloud EACH negative emotion/spirit that is involved in the above forgiveness - eg, spirit of unforgiveness, anger, hurt, bitterness, rage, self-pity, control, condemnation, abandonment), and then to (5) command each evil spirit individually by name (mentioned aloud previously) to leave. 
Each prayer/step is to begin, "In the name of Jesus, I"
Staying free is based on many ongoing steps.  One must realize -
1-Winning a battle is NOT winning a war.  Won territory needs constant defense.  The UN military presence in any war zone is one example.  God did not give (drop into his lap) to Moses the land He promised him.  Instead, Israel had to fight for it.  Battles are for building of character.  Is a lie of Satan that one should expect to live happily ever after.  It is a fairy tale or a tale of heaven.  It is not easy to work out at a gym if you are used to sitting at a desk all day working.  Your muscles are weak.  Likewise our spiritual muscles are weak, until such time we build them up by saying no continually to whatever we are in the habit of saying yes to.  For instance, if we are in the habit of lying most of the day in bed due to psychiatric illness and psychiatric drugs, then we need to fight to shower, shave, shovel the snow, or do anything useful.  That fight makes Satan mad, but our spiritual muscles glad.
2-Introspection is destructive.  A good protection against introspection and self-pity is to talk out loud to Jesus (rather than just think about it, or rather than talk to a safe confident about it).  In a Christian counselor's office you can talk to God in the presence of the mentor.  This puts your reliance on God and off of man or self.  Unhealthy introspection is mainly when your or your counselor probe continually and rehash over and over again past wounds which cause you emotional and psychiatric harm.  Healthy introspection is when a professional asks a question once and has you immediately take it to the Lord, or when it surfaces on its own when the Holy Spirit knows you are ready to deal with it.
3-Pride is both Satan's and man's biggest enemy.  Pride can hurt us more than demonic attacks, if we have asked Jesus to be our savior, for God looks out for His kids.
4-Deliverance leads to a daily relationship with Jesus and is not a quick fix formula.  If we think otherwise, our future is paved with ouches.  Deliverance is being freed from the sufferings of Satin and being delivered to the sufferings of Christ.  Satan's troubles end in disease, terror and death.  God's sufferings end in praise and eternal life.  We are never free of troubles, but we do have a helpmate, the Holy Spirit, our comforter.
5-Deliverance is an ongoing life process, not a one time exorcism.  Each time we uproot a problem/hindrance/obstacle/evil spirit, we create a manure/compost pile upon which we can stand in the name of Jesus.  As it becomes a mountain, we get closer and closer to our Lord in the heavenlies.
6-Negative thinking patterns that are inherited need to be dealt with, not only for ourselves, but also for our children's sakes.  Be sure to repent for any such generational negative patterns or sins at confession/communion.  Try to be specific, regarding any situation of which you are aware.  For instance,
if you are a child out of wedlock, a sin of fornication/adultery needs to be confessed to God, on behalf of your parents.  We also need to repent of any inappropriate reactions regarding such knowledge.  For most of us it takes years and years and years, not days, to learn to walk in the freedom Christ has already provided for us on the  cross 2000 years ago.  No human has sufficient skills to rely on himself and not on God.  Negative thinking patterns are ingrained into our brains, like a floppy disk.  We need to ask God to erase the old wrong memories, to reformat and reprogram our brains, to remedy any inherited DNA which would harm us or our descendents, and to remove and chain any evil spirits.
7-No man is an island unto himself.  God knew this when he made Eve for Adam.    One of the biggest protections we have is to find a minimum of one person or church group where we allow ourselves to be vulnerable enough to be helped by them, for they can be God's heart, hands and feet.
8-Scripture tells us that if we fail to repent and fail to forgive, even to forgive ourselves, we open ourselves up for a relapse. But even if we do have a relapse, the greatest danger is to quit or give up, especially to give up on God to help us.
Luke 11:24-26 NIV    "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.  Then it says, 'I will return to the house I left.'  When it arrives it finds the house swept clean and put in order;  then it goes and takes 7 other spirits more wicked than itself.  They go in and live there.  The final condition of that man is worse than the first."

Deliverance without inner healing leaves the door open for evil spirits to return.  Healing requires time.  Emotions need healing.  Demons are real.  Healing prayer requires discernment.
Chapter 14 Freeing a Person from Spirits of Trauma adds to the other chapters in encouraging one to receive ministry for the healing of emotions/memory/wounds/trauma prior to any deliverance ministry.  After any type of ministry one needs to ask God to fill in/replace the vacancy/brokenness with Himself/ health/love; otherwise the old nature/sin/an evil spirit has a space/place/open door/invitation to move back.  
Chapter 16 Spirits of the Occult warns that occult demons are difficult to evict and subsequently difficult to keep at bay.  Individuals needing occult deliverance must do preventative spiritual work before, during and after; an AAA type of buddy system/group needs to be in place.  A percent of that person's personality will be free of oppression and needs to be protected and strengthened.  Before ministry it is imperative that the individual switch allegiances, repent of sin, renounce/reject Satan, accept/reaccept Jesus as savior (in his/her own words or repeating after the pastor), and destroy any occult objects, especially any contracts (which he can give to the pastor/minister to destroy). If speech is difficult, continue/repeat until the words are clear, binding any interfering spirits.

Chapter 7 Praying Out the Mysteries of God's Plan encourages us to pray, "Take over, Holy Ghost (Spirit).  My soul (thoughts/emotions/mind) has been sabotaging me lately, but I don't mind spending a day (time) with You (praying in tongues)."  As we in determination, disregarding our negative feelings/thoughts, implement our daily practice of praying out loud (or under our breath) in tongues unknown to us, "the voice of the Holy Spirit" will become "louder than the" voice of "the enemy".  In fact, by praying in tongues, we terrorize the terrorizer; this is the beginning of the end for our enemy/disease/infirmity! 
If attacks come against us now, we know we have the enemy on the run. 1st John 4:4 Greater is He Who is in you than he who is in the world.
Chapter 12 Purged to Stand in the Gap gives us a heads up on the roadblocks Satan will use to derail us from praying in tongues.  Praying in tongues allows the Holy Spirit to spotlight character flaws that interfere with our maturity in God.  Like cream in milk, these personality issues will from time to time arise, as the Holy Spirit exposes them, as we are able to deal with them with God's help.  When they come to our attention, we must immediately repent and place them under the blood of Christ.  Later when the enemy comes back to accuse us we can retort that they/it is forgiven and under Christ's blood, nailed to His cross. Remember.  Never, never, never omit praying in tongues.

Our defense is never based on who we are, but rather Who He is and has ALREADY accomplished.  That is why Gentiles (non believers in Jesus as Messiah) can receive healing.  In the name of Jesus, we can take spiritual authority on our own behalf or on the behalf of anyone living in our home or working in our business or attending our service - on our property, over which we have covered with the blood of Jesus.  Refuse to quit; never concede to ill health (unless God Himself has personally told you otherwise - as part of His permissive will, never His perfect will, unless He has selected a martyr for some rare special purpose).

The devil spoke in English through Clarita (who herself cannot) to Sumrall.  The devil said that he did not like him, God, or the blood of Christ. Sumrall told Clarita that he came to deliver her from the power of the devils, in the name of Jesus Christ, the son of God.  He commanded, "Come out of her you evil and wicked spirit of hell.  Come out of her in Jesus Name!"  Sumrall fasted/prayed.  Encounter 2, when the demons left, they attached a mocking prisoner (plus later apparently on killing an officer).  Encounter 3.  Then the demons returned, saying that they had a legal right to stay, because she was unclean.  Sumrall countered with the fact that Mary Magdalene became clean (freed of her 7 unclean spirits) by the power of Jesus.  He commanded them to leave and asked Jesus to make her clean.  Clarita then asked Jesus to forgive her for her past sins.  Encounter 4. Sumrall asked the demons why they came back.  They responded that although he wanted them to depart, she had never asked them to leave.  Thus Clarita told the demons to depart and never return (in the name of Jesus).  Sumrall taught Clarita the necessity of praying and pleading the blood of Jesus.  He taught her to say, "Go, in Jesus name. God, deliver me in Jesus name and in Jesus blood."  Encounter 5.  When attacked, she could not remember the words to pray, but a guard did remember and helped rescue her. Clarita's deliverance is what opened the doors for a great revival in the Philippines. 
(PS - Before the spirits could be totally eradicated, a crucifix worn on her dress plus a rosary had to be destroyed, due to an attachment these 2 spirits had to those objects.)

1st premise/key is that no other exercise will replace reading God's Word daily. It is even better to read scripture "out loud".  (One can also listen to Scripture on cassette/CD, in the car, at home or out walking.)

The rational/mental/intellectual choices/decisions we make more often than not are influenced greatly by our emotional reactions/feelings.
"Behavioral economists set up 3 distinct choice environments, which allowed them to subtly bias the decision-making approach of the subjects. For instance, in condition two the volunteers were forced to memorize a long random string of numbers, which took up valuable cognitive space in working memory. There's a large body of evidence that such random digits make it harder to engage in "rational" thought, and thus make it more likely for people to rely on their emotional system. The researchers then had subjects choose between a series of paired objects. For instance, people were given a choice between a 'Quick Release Micro-Light Keychain' and a 'Voice Recording Keychain with LED'.
What did they find? In all 3 conditions, subjects who relied more on their emotional system made a more consistent set of decisions. In other words, the property of transitivity - which, along with 'completeness'
is one of the basic assumptions of rational preference relations in economic theory - seems to depend not on rational thought processes but on those subtle emotional signals emanating from the limbic system. Here's the irony: In order to behave like a 'rational agent' one needs to rely on the emotional brain."

"The thoughts that go through your mind, moment by moment, have a significant impact on how your brain works. Research by Mark George, MD and colleagues at the National Institutes of Health demonstrated that happy, hopeful thoughts had an overall calming effect on the brain, while negative thoughts inflamed brain areas often involved with depression and anxiety. Your thoughts matter.
I often teach my patients how to metaphorically kill the ANTs that invade their minds. ANTs stand for Automatic Negative Thoughts. The ANTs are automatic. They just happen. But they can ruin your whole day, maybe even your life. For example, I once treated a college student who was ready to drop out of school. He thought he was stupid because didn't do well on tests. When his IQ (intelligence level) was tested, however, we discovered that he had an IQ of 135 (in the superior range). He just wasn't a good
test taker. I have identified 9 different kinds of ANT species, or ways your thoughts can distort incoming information to make you feel bad. Here are 4 ANT species:
Mind reading - predicting you know that another person is thinking something negative about you without them telling you. I often tell my patients that, 'A negative look from someone else may mean nothing more than he or she is constipated. You don't know. You can't read minds. I have 25 years of training in human behavior and I still can't read anyone's mind.'
Fortune telling - predicting a bad outcome to a situation before it has occurred. Your mind makes happen what it sees. Unconsciously, predicting failure will often cause failure. For example, if you say, 'I know I will fail the test,' then you will likely not study hard enough and fail the test.
Always or never thinking - this is where you think in words like always, never, every time, or everyone. These thoughts are overgeneralizations which can alter behavior. For example, I have a friend who asked out an attractive woman. She turned him down. He told himself that no one will ever go out with him again. This ANT prevented him from asking out anyone else for over 9 months.
Guilt beatings - being overrun by thoughts of 'I should have done... I'm bad because…. I must do better at… I have to'). Guilt is powerful at making us feel bad. It is a lousy motivator of behavior.
You do not have to believe every thought that goes through your head. It's important to think about your thoughts to see if they help you or they hurt you. Unfortunately, if you never challenge your thoughts you just 'believe them' as if they were true. ANTs can take over and infest your brain. Develop an internal ant-eater to hunt down and devour the negative thoughts that are ruining your life.
Once you learn about your thoughts, you can chose to think good thoughts and feel good or you can choose to think bad thoughts and feel lousy. You can train your thoughts to be positive and hopeful or you can just allow them to be negative and upset you. That's right, it's up to you! You can learn how to change your thoughts and optimize your brain. One way to learn how to change your thoughts is to notice them when they are negative and talk back to them. If you can correct negative thoughts, you take away their power over you. When you think a negative thought without challenging it, your mind believes it and your brain reacts to it."

Toxic thoughts if accepted and not rejected emit venom which harden into visible thorns in the brain.  However, these are reversible when negative memories are identified, captured,
refused and replaced with positive ideas/thoughts over a minimum of 21 days. 
[Think of the computer memory.  There is the temporary information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAM  prior to the selection to save or not.  Our brain works in a similar fashion regarding memory.  The brain also has a physical area where one selects or rejects to keep thoughts.  It is imperative to deliberately filter one's thoughts and decide whether to keep or erase them.  As is true with the computer or the brain,
so is it true with our human spirit.  God tells us in scripture to test the spirits.  We need to test/capture/evaluate/judge every thought and determine if it is good/healthy or evil/unhealthy. 
We need to determine if the thoughts are from God's Holy Spirit, the evil spirit, or from the human spirit.  All thoughts are not equal, beneficial, or holy.  Our choice to accept/save or to reject a thought will affect the health of our mind/emotions/brain/soul, our body, plus our spirit.  God created us to dwell in 3 realms (mind/body/spirit).  Ask the Holy Spirit to help; He will.]

One's emotional perceptions are stored in the amygdala. Thoughts have emotions, especially in regard to the positive (faith) and negative (fear). Never allow any thought to go/wander through your mind, without first checking it (like an airport passport inspector).  Daily/often journal and notice especially any repetitious thoughts. Listen to/observe/watch/capture/discipline one's thoughts.  Do NOT feed (dwell on)wrong thoughts or emotions.  Don't suppress or indulge in wrong emotions.  Recognize and evict negative thoughts.  Replace with God's thoughts.  Rewire your brain with the Word of God and abstain from thinking and acting on the negative such as fear.  Admit, quit and beat wrong thoughts and/or emotions. Beware, one's emotional electrical/chemical brain circuits are NOT fully developed until age 18.  Reprogram your brain.  It takes 4 days to change one's thinking/habits and 21 days for brain to develop new thinking/ emotional pathways.

Revelation describes it this way: 'I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him (Satan/demons/accusations/voices) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony' (Revelation 12:10-11).
What was the power Satan lost in that instant? It was the ability to accuse any person who had been cleansed by Jesus’ blood. The devil could no longer hold a believer in chains of guilt, fear or condemnation. He was robbed of all his power to deceive or destroy those who live by faith in Christ’s sacrifice. He no longer had dominion over anyone who trusts in Jesus.
God was making a legal declaration to all who would believe in his Son: 'You have been made free. The power of the devil can’t hold you if you trust in the power of the blood of Jesus Christ.
There is no power under heaven that can bring you down.”
There were now 2 kingdoms...Right now is Satan’s last-ditch effort to destroy the bride of Christ. The devil has issued an all-out battle cry. And he’s releasing everything in his arsenal to try to bring down God’s elect" (those elect who fail to remind themselves and their descendants of the bail and the inheritance God has provided for each individual who claims Jesus as his/her Messiah and baptizer in the Holy Spirit.  If not ask God, right now. But I also have to point out your part in this. The truth is, you’ve allowed the devil to have his way with you."
Jesus speaks to His children, "'At first, Satan overwhelmed you with his tactics. But instead of resisting him with My promises, you’ve bowed and scraped to him. Why don’t you (NOW) walk in the light of My freedom, joy and peace?'”
Isaiah "(51:7). In other words: 'Why do you measure yourself by others’ concepts of success or failure? I’ve given you promises from eternity. But you’ve brought reproach upon yourself. You’ve laid down on the ground as a stepping stone for the enemy.'” (You have failed to become informed of My word and promises in scripture or knowing, to believe and act on them.)"
"The Lord then points out  (in 51:14), 'You’ve become a captive to your own fear, bound by needless doubts. Instead of running to (reading, being acquainted with, believing, applying, claiming) My Word (Son, salvation, Messiah, deliverance, promises, Holy Spirit, Me, inheritance left for you), you struggle against your bonds (what you have allowed out of ignorance, pride, fear or rebellion)  “The captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail.'  Simply put, we’ve become preoccupied with our circumstances. And we’ve failed to remember (weld/speak/apply/cut off our bonds with) His Word (His sword) to us (according to Isaiah 52:7 KJV):
'That bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation (including deliverance); that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!' ”

(Remember, God personally left each generation and each person an inheritance, His last will and last testament, His Son in the tomb - so to speak.  We need to read the Bible, open His last will and testament, open the tomb - and let Jesus out.  His Holy Spirit can only act for us in our lifetime when WE apply/speak His Word.  It does NO use to pray.  God already acted.  Jesus already acted 2,000 years ago.  We are the ones He is waiting on to act.  Our inheritance is locked up in the legal documents of the Bible.  His battery/electricity/power/Holy Spirit can only work when we plug Him in by reading, believing in, speaking and acting on His word in scripture.  All this time we have been waiting for Him to show up.  Big mistake.  God showed up at creation and the Messiah showed up 2,000 years ago.  We show up and do nothing. 
Oh, wake up, right NOW.  Our deliverance is PAST tense.  Grab it today.  Do not doubt.  Fight for your inheritance, just as did the Israelis did when they went to take possession of the land promised to them when they came out of the desert after wandering in circles 40 years.  Wake up, immediately.)

The most trying of all spiritual battles take place in the mind of the believer. Many Christians endure tremendous mental anguish, battling thoughts that are oppressive, un-Christ-like, fearful. They can’t shake depressing memories of past failures. And they end up feeling not worthy of fellowship or God’s blessings...
Once you set your heart to seek the Lord, determining to lay hold of his promises, you become a target of Satan’s envy. There comes a time in every believer’s life when he faces a choice: he can remain lukewarm in his faith, or he can cross a line to follow Jesus with all his heart. Whenever we choose to lay hold of Christ fully, we stir up the bowels of hell. And Satan sends his demonic hordes to unleash hell’s wrath in our lives...
The devil cannot endure the thought that anyone 'lesser' than himself could taste anything of paradise.
He is totally envious of anyone who is blessed to behold what he lost for eternity."
In scripture "according to Paul, this hellish hound was permitted by God in his life to keep pride out of his heart. The devil assigned this messenger to afflict Paul’s flesh, causing him physical and mental pain.
And Satan instructed the demon to be unrelenting in his attack: 'Buffet Paul repeatedly. Hit him day after day, never letting up.' But envy had blinded Satan’s eyes about Paul. What the devil used to try to bring him down - a barrage of physical and mental attacks - God turned to Paul’s good...These attacks were the result of Satan at one time losing his own intimacy with the Father...That is why Satan won’t let up on you. It’s why you are being buffeted. He is determined not to allow any chance for the Holy Ghost to rekindle that flame in you. For this reason, Paul warns us not to be ignorant of the devil’s wiles: 'Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices' (2 Corinthians 2:11). If we ignore the enemy’s tactics, we may allow him to gain a foothold, or advantage, over us."
"Sometimes Satan finds people to say hurtful, damaging things out loud to us. But mostly, the enemy uses his demonic powers, sending them to shake our faith. "Satan...cowers before those who are up on their feet and ready to resist. And because he fears you,
his design is to neutralize your fighting spirit. The devil does this by trying to flood your mind with defeating, distracting, hellish thoughts that breed mistrust and questions about God’s power. He’ll scream into your mind and spirit, 'It’s no use fighting anymore. You’re too weak from your personal struggles. You’re never going to be an over-comer. The powers of hell are just too big to overcome. So, you might as well relax. You don’t need to be so intense about the battle anymore.' (Beware, often Satan will use the pronoun 'I' instead of 'you'!  Instead of, 'you are no good', your thoughts will be, 'I am no good'.)...
Beloved, this is all a distraction! Satan’s entire strategy is to get you to take your eyes off the victory of the Cross. He wants to turn your focus onto your weaknesses, your sins, your shortcomings - and that’s why he turns up the heat of your present problems and sufferings. He wants to make you believe you aren’t strong enough to go on. But your strength is NOT the point; Jesus’ strength is...Fully trust in Christ’s 'blood sacrifice.' (Take communion often and contemplate on Jesus blood that had enough life and power in it to resurrect Him from death)...
Satan...sends (invisible) vultures down...What are these vultures? They’re thoughts that are birthed in hell, coming to harass you and cause you to question Christ’s faithfulness to you...You may be feeling the swipes of vultures sent by Satan to make you falter...Whenever any voice of doubt or questioning of God comes into my mind, I have to line it up against what I know about my loving Lord. I can’t accept any thoughts as true if they are based on simply what I’m feeling in the moment. They have to be measured against Jesus’ promises to me about himself and about the victory he has won for me...If thoughts come to me that are accusing - if they cause doubt and fear, or are condemning, or bring a sense of rejection -
I know they are not of God. We all have to be prepared for such horrible thoughts to come. Even the Lord Jesus was subject to these kinds of thoughts from the enemy during his wilderness temptation...
One godly prophet confessed to me, 'Recently, I’ve been harassed by evil thoughts. It’s the first time in my life this has happened.' But the Holy Spirit assured him: 'Stand still in faith. These are NOT your thoughts; they are from Satan. The devil wants to convince you that you’re as evil as the thoughts he sends. He wants to stagger your faith. Just hold on, and trust the Lord. You’re NOT going to sink. You’re under attack, because you have shaken the foundations of hell.'...
My friend chased away those vultures, using (speaking aloud) God’s Word in faith. Likewise, Jesus resisted
(by quoting scripture) Satan’s temptations in the wilderness, and the devil left him for a time...
When vultures come at you, bringing thoughts of unworthiness and insecurity, chase them away with God’s Word."

However his advocacy of Ayurvedic Medicine is ominous in that much of it has occultic/Satanic  origins.  Fisher cites "Deepak Chopra's book Quantum Healing (p.189) ...'The reason why meditation is so important in Ayurveda is that it leads the mind to a free zone that is not touched by the disease. Until you know that such a place exists, your disease will seem to be taking over completely. This is the principal delusion that needs to be shattered.'" 
Yes, yes, yes, but no, no, no.  Yes, there is a SPIRITUAL place that is ignored by secular medicine and recognized by many in alternative medicine, by Satanists, witches, witch doctors, and by anyone who prays.  What most do not recognize (or do recognize and take advantage of) is the existence and operation of evil spirits. The Catholic church recognizes the existence of evil spirits and exterminates them through exorcism.  The Charismatic/Pentecostal church recognizes the power of the Holy Spirit Who heals and delivers people from mental illness.  Any "meditation" that opens the mind/soul to anything that wants to enter, opens his/her mind to the entry of evil spirits.
1st John 4:1-3 NIV    Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.  This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God.  Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ (Messiah) has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit (demon/religion/church/pastor/ministry/healer) that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God.  This is the spirit of the antichrist (anti-Messiah), which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the  world.

COMMENTARY

All thoughts are NOT equal.  Some thoughts are mine.  Some are God's.  Some are from demons!
Refuse those thoughts which always get you readmitted back into the hospital.  Refuse those thoughts that get you into trouble.  Never rely on your feelings.  They can lie, too.  Rely on what God says in His Bible.  Read it OUT LOUD.
Rely on those people who bless you, even on those who show tough love!

Since humans are trinity - 3 parts, sometimes all 3 parts need relapse prevention intervention!
Doctors may need to give meds, at least temporarily.
Counselors may need to give therapy, at least temporarily.
Pastors may need to minister to the spirit, at least temporarily.
If any one of the above (body/mind/spirit) are not healed, then there could be relapses.
Often we need a family/congregation/community/village to minister to EACH aspect of our humanness.

If there is a compulsive/addictive/compelling/intrusive/insistent/badgering/overwhelming thought/emotion/feeling interfering in our life, then there may be a strong likelihood that it is not ME but rather a he/it, a demon.  Paul the apostle says in scripture that he does that which he does not want to do.  The flesh/human nature can do that in response to our fallen humanity, immaturity, circumstances, and demonic interference.  In such a case, relinquish that impulse to God, declare that the flesh is dead in Christ, and rely on Him to provide strength to change/replace with His thoughts and to flee temptation.  Each time we should get stronger and stronger to resist the enemy that so plagues/torments/molests/ bothers/haunts us with the emergency requirement to fight or flee (over eat/drink/shop/sleep/drug/smoke)Thank You Father God.
